Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Sony upped the game though when the comarketing contract forbade Xbox from advertising it all together

Co-marketing deals are all like that, Destiny deal is no different.

There are some extreme co-marketing deals (Like Diablo 3), but these are rare.

Are you guys seriously this upset and not buying it anymore because it's 900p instead of 1080p?

Would Stanley Kubrick insert a shit scene into one of his movies if other, lessor, directors gave him a million pounds to do so (and therefore make their movies look not so bad in comparison)? Fuck no.

So let's bring it home. Let's get to the basics, and answer me this simple question:

Would Neil Druckmann purposely release a shitty gimped version of one of his games if a third party gave him money to do so? Would Gabe Newell? Would they fuck. Ubisoft aren't in the business of making art, they're in the business of making profits, and that's what separates them from the Naughty Dogs and Valves of this world.

"...he's chose exile." hahahaa

I can't believe people actually care about this. If a few extra pixels suddenly makes a game less fun, that really says something.

it might not make it more fun, but it will for sure, make it a better product. the game is being downgraded for ps4 owners just for parity sake and that's what pissing people off.

right, than why did we bother buying new consoles if all we were getting were a few extra pixels, this isnt much about the resolution but about the practice ubisoft is laying for other devs to follow, why try harder to achieve better if people will buy regardless

Because we're all nerds and that's what platform holders told us to do. The new system "upgrades" were behind the curve in technology. So, yes. You upgrade because they told you to and they were moving on to a newer, "better" platform and you either moved with or quit.

Or, we are hyperconsumers. That too. =)

"Why try harder to achieve better if people will buy regardless?"

For a mega corporation in a volatile market...the answer to this question is actually quite clear.

Does Neil Druckmann work for a 3rd party? No he doesn't. So we will never know. However, Valve did release TF2 for XB360...then never updated it. So, he's not an angel either. Valve certainly has not given the console version of their games the same they have their PC versions, that's for sure. Reasons for both are MONEY.

So, you may want to pick different examples.

Conspiracy theories and righteous indignation over how video games perform. Amazing and scary. Did you guys forget how previous generations worked when there were differences in capability or something?

when PS3 games were sucking monkey dicks, no one issued parity to level the playing ground

If its fun to play why should it matter? Are you saying that the SNES waas the worst system ever of all time because of its lack of D's?

It's 2014, not 1992. Jeez. Why the hell are we still not walking around with Nokia Cell Phones and Sony Walkman s. I mean those made calls and played music right?

A developer flat out said, we are not utilizing superior hardware for the sake of making the game the same. It's bullshit. I would be just as upset if the roles were reversed. But I bought a PS4 first this round because MS decided to release inferior hardware and they are trying to make up for it by forcing product to be gimped on rival platforms.

Did you? When has this kind of practice ever been celebrated? It's usually been the exception in previous generations and hopefully it remains that way in this generation too.

It isnt, looking a few feet away at a computer screen you can see the slightly more blurry image of 900p vs 1080p depending on the game (the new lord of the rings games the 900p difference is less pronounced due to the AA method).

When viewing from 5-8ft in 40'' tv I cant tell the difference between 900p vs 1080p, It is less of a difference then many PS3 vs 360 games, that did have noticeable problems when viewing from 5-8ft on a 40'' tv.

The only games that have a big as a difference as 360 vs ps3 games is cod ghosts BF4 and MGS:GZ.

360 was the defacto multiplat console to go to last gen. Where a lot of games did have noticeable graphical shortcomings on the PS3 version which did make it a less enjoyable experience
This gen its not the case aside from cod ghosts and to a lesser extent BF4 and MGS:GZ .

Bottomline is when i watch the DF + gamesyde videos of recent games on my gaming TV I can only see the difference when the pointed out to me, going back and forth between X1 and PS4 videos I cant tell the difference.

People are not upset because it is 900p, people are upset and boycotting the game because Ubi have basically admitted to gimping the PS4 version to force parity with Xbox One.

Why? Because they don't want a debate over resolution... Hunker down Ubi. Shitstorm incoming. Oh, in case you didn't know, Unity will be shipping with microtransactions as well.

Yeah, remember when the 360 versions of games were gimped to be at parity with the PS3 versions?

...

Wait what?

Here's a tidbit from a french preview of the game, i thought it was worth translating :

On the other side, what should we say about some bland textures or the one's that pop at the last second? The aliasing very present, framerate drops, sporadic but gigantic, collision bugs everywhere, lipsynch out of the place during cutscenes, invisible barriers or ledges, hero getting stuck in the setting? To all of that we'd like to simply answer : beta version. But a month and a half from the release, the pile of imperfections seems incrediby high ; all of this does not give us much faith.

welp.

Damn everytime MS make a step in the right direction they make 5 step back. If they indeed put a parity close in their co-marketing contract then they didn't learn a damn thing since E3 2013.

Hmmm going to wait for Farcry 4 difference. If PS4 is the better version, well then you know for a fact that MS will require parity as a clause for all Co-marketing deals in the future.

Wow you're right, I hadn't realized that the overwhelming majority of people on Gaf had bought current gen consoles already. My mistake!

I never suggested that. I'm just saying many of the early adopters of current gen consoles are hardcore gamers that might care about this and I'm pretty sure they make up A LOT more than 2%. There is also no way this game will sell 10 million like past games in the series due to the limited install base.

I can't say I'm happy with the PS4 version being gimped, but I can live with 900p. The AC4 patch to 1080p made such a miniscule difference to me, I just can't get very up in arms over this.
I was hoping we'd see an improvement on this:

But it appears the Far Cry side of UBI (publishing) doesn't care much for image quality.

If this is true maybe they should delay it 6 months. It might be the best thing for them to do, have two different ass creed games drop on the same day is kinda crazy anyway.

What does anti-consumerism even mean? It's still a working product that just looks worse. It's not a consumer rights issue, just a bad choice, and a worse looking product than it could be. I totally get people not wanting to support a subpar effort. I wouldn't either based on this info, but it's different than selling a lemon.

I agree, it absolutely is different than selling a Lemon, likely because its a working product as you said, its not a consumer rights issue but you cannot still help but feeling burned from it. Atleast you agree based on this info that you do not support it.

It really is a dangerous game, how many Ubisoft games in the future will do a similar thing if the money is thrown at them, or infact other game developers/publishers, especially if this example is shown to be a success + consumers ignore and continue to purchase gimped, unacceptable lackluster versions just so that MS do not find themselves dealing with the 'weaker port headlines'

As a consumer why should I accept anything but due diligence? Not just in games but in any product I buy? That goes for consoles themselves, TV's, car's, motorbikes...If the product is not with the customer at heart, there are plenty more options out there in a buyers market....in this case, plenty of other quality games @Xmas

Fuck parity. Can't believe they actually straight up said to avoid debate. Hopefully the internet can cause enough of a shitstorm to make them change their minds.

I don't want to support this practice in any way, but I still want Unity. Guess I'm just buying Ubisoft games used from now on.

Maybe some dropped pre-orders will get some attention. Everyone here who is upset and has the game pre-ordered should drop their pre-order. Even if you still plan on buying the game. Money is the only thing that is going to get the suits attention.

Just got out of a chat with Sony and cancelled it. I'm am a diehard fan of the series, but I just can't morally allow myself to keep a pre-order that supports a company that lies about why they can't achieve 1080p. I have no quarrel with 30fps, but there is no excuse other than Microsoft crying fowl as to why they gimped the PS4 version. Once they fix it, I'll go back, but until then, they won't get my money.

Seems like a buggy mess and it's almost a month before release...

Good. I hope the game is a gigantic pile of shit.

I love the thought that someone at Ubisoft deliberately made this blunt statement because forced parity is absurd and wants to everyone to know.

Wow. They need another year in the oven with this game if true.

Ofcourse this doesn't bother you when all you buy is MS products. Come on now, you'd care about it too if the shoe was on the other foot.

Xbox 360
30ish Physical
50+ Digital

Xbox One
17 Digital
1 Physical (It came free with the console) and I regret it

Digital Only all the way, IMHO Physical sucks big time.

EA already did exactly that with NHL so I wouldnt be surprised.

NHL 15, Fifa 15, Destiny, Diablo, now AC Unity etc. I'd be shocked if Microsoft wasn't behind this new slew of parity centric multi platform releases. We know for a fact it's been quite a priority of theirs as of late.
