Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Some of the conspiracy theory and assumptions are mind blowing in this thread. Wait for the details people.

The only reasons I can think that Ubisoft would do this are:

a) Microsoft paid them a bunch of money (or something equivalent to it in services) to maintain parity, at least during the launch window
b) They don't care any more about getting the best out of each system
c) They have a launch date to make and have enough bugs to fix without caring about about performance beyond where it is

Personally I think a) is the most likely reason.

NHL 15, Fifa 15, now Ac Unity etc. I'd be shocked if Microsoft wasn't behind this new slew of parity centric multi platform releases. We know for a fact it's been quite a priority of theirs as of late.

the new Madden too

although I'm really not sure if that's MS parity money or EA Sports being that bad of developers.

Here's a tidbit from a french preview of the game, i thought it was worth translating :

On the other side, what should we say about some bland textures or the one's that pop at the last second? The aliasing very present, framerate drops, sporadic but gigantic, collision bugs everywhere, lipsynch out of the place during cutscenes, invisible barriers or ledges, hero getting stuck in the setting? To all of that we'd like to simply answer : beta version. But a month and a half from the release, the pile of imperfections seems incrediby high ; all of this does not give us much faith.

welp.

Oh my god

wtf? So you are saying that Xbox One owners are needing to come to terms that the X1 is weaker? WTF kind of bullshit is that. You make it sound like it is X1 owners fault this is happening.

Wow, fly off the handle much? =/

The Xbox One tends to get multiplatform games with a lower resolution. Why is that? Isn't it because it's weaker? Doesn't have to be massively weaker. That's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying they couldn't achieve 1080p with AC4 on Xbox One, but they could with PS4. So there is a difference there. I own both consoles, so it's not like I hate the Xbox or anything. I just use it for exclusives.

But my point is that if people who are exclusively Xbox One players didn't complain about their multiplatform games being lower resolution than PS4's versions, then there wouldn't be a reason to "avoid debates and stuff". How else would there be debates if they weren't complaining about it?

As an owner of both consoles, I want the best that can be achieved with either console. I know they could achieve 1080p with ACU, but they decided to handicap it for sake of no debates. And that's a stupid reason. So I am upset about being stripped of the ability to play a better version of ACU than we will get if nothing is done.

I've played every mainstream entry in the series until now. That streak may well end here and now. I'll reconsider if there's a 1080p patch, or if the game otherwise demonstrates that it is exploiting each system to its potential. Artificial parity? I'll take my money elsewhere, thank you.

Lol, the same thing was said about the exact subject matter of this very thread. Using common sense or making an educated guess, is not the same as throwing out a wild conspiracy theory.

This is shitty. The Xbox is the ol' ball and chain now. Thanks for holding us back MS. At least they admitted it and didn't chalk it up to a secret team of engineers magically making weaker hardware perform as well as far superior hardware.

Conspiracy theories and righteous indignation over how video games perform. Amazing and scary. Did you guys forget how previous generations worked when there were differences in capability or something?

Conspiracy theory? How can it be a conspiracy theory when it is was someone from Ubisoft that came out and said it?

Even if there is a technical reason for why the PS4 couldn't do 1080p, being CPU-bound does not explain it. Not by itself.

when PS3 games were sucking monkey dicks, no one issued parity to level the playing ground

They certainly did when they chose to switch to making the lowest common denominator the lead platform...in that case, the PS3. In the previous generation, the Japanese developers mostly decided to make PS2 the de facto platform, treating other more powerful platforms, one with twice the memory, and both having more generally powerful graphics parts as simple, unupgraded port destinations with an occasional improvement, if it was easy and not a big deal...sometimes...sometimes. Every generation has this kind of stuff happening and this one should be no different unless you bought into the hype of what specs seem to guarantee but often fail to deliver. I mean, listen to some of you making this an 'anti-consumerist' issue...what?! No one said you're going to get everything better just because you bought into the marketing hype and dreamt of what those specs meant relative to another machine. This shit goes far back to the beginning of console times. If performance was so great a concern, I would think getting a gaming-spec PC would be the safest of all choices.

Assassins Creed Unity, this is how it could have looked on PS4 without parity.

NHL 15, Fifa 15, Destiny, Diablo, now AC Unity etc. I'd be shocked if Microsoft wasn't behind this new slew of parity centric multi platform releases. We know for a fact it's been quite a priority of theirs as of late.

Just about every EA sports launch title looked the same on both consoles. Should those be added in too?

Wow. I'd already decided not to preorder yet another AC game but this kind of clinches it. I don't own any non-1080P games and I'm not sure I want to start now. Hopefully Far Cry 4 doesn't pull the same shit.

People keep saying this, but their games on PC still look and run much better on PC than PS4. Basically because of lack of optimization it might run at 1440p 60fps instead of 1440p 100fps.

I can barely run Watch Dogs at 1080p 30 with medium/high settings and a 4 GB 680. Their PC games are utter trash.

This logic makes my blood boil every time I see it. People said the same thing about the Xbox DRM: "Oh, only people on hardcore forums care! They're only a small percentage and the mainstream won't notice anyways!"

Such bullshit.

yep, and lets be honest gamers as a whole are some of the least loyal consumers. turning on franchise wont take long with BS practices.

As I just said, it's a pretty big overextension to compare graphical parity in one game to the locking out of used games on an entire platform and assume people will care the same amount.

So what is your end game here? Are you saying that no one here should give a fuck, because mainstream people likely won't? I think you are grossly underestimating the power of social media here. It's a huge title, and GAF has a big following whether you want to admit that or not.

It makes you wonder if Destiny was originally 1080p/60fps on PS4 before 'MS engineers' helped them out ...

Shitstorm happening, delay to follow.

Fuck parity. Can't believe they actually straight up said to avoid debate. Hopefully the internet can cause enough of a shitstorm to make them change their minds.

I don't want to support this practice in any way, but I still want Unity. Guess I'm just buying Ubisoft games used from now on.

Good man! Welcome to the club, except it was FC4 for me. One thing good for us, returns and sellbacks of Ubi games are high.

Thanks, Ubi. Good to know that a good percentage of the console I own will go underutilized for the sake of people who have nothing better to do than argue over the internet about their system of choice being better than another, regardless of actual performance level. If anything, at least their being blunt about it. Might still cancel my GameStop pre-order, though, because this is ridiculous.

So what can we expect from FarCry 4 now? Because I'm not buying that if it's on board with the Xbox One version. Tired of this stupid crap.

I agree, it absolutely is different than selling a Lemon, likely because its a working product as you said, its not a consumer rights issue but you cannot still help but feeling burned from it. Atleast you agree based on this info that you do not support it.

It really is a dangerous game, how many Ubisoft games in the future will do a similar thing if the money is thrown at them, or infact other game developers/publishers, especially if this example is shown to be a success + consumers ignore and continue to purchase gimped, unacceptable lackluster versions just so that MS do not find themselves dealing with the 'weaker port headlines'

As a consumer why should I accept anything but due diligence? Not just in games but in any product I buy? That goes for consoles themselves, TV's, car's, motorbikes...If the product is not with the customer at heart, there are plenty more options out there in a buyers market....in this case, plenty of other quality games @Xmas

I totally agree, It's bad practice and precedent, and we shouldn't settle when it's something that's as trivial as it would be to implement (I assume). I think it hurts the argument and perception of the upset customers if it were blown into something along the lines of "they're taking a way our rights" thing, if that makes sense.

I wonder how many devs it would take for Ubisoft to make a 1080p game.
