Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Preorder (still) not preordered. Am I doing it right?

I didn't really care about this game anyway but it seems like a bad idea/precedent and a shaky excuse.

Everyone isn't you. Some, do, want their preference platform used to it's fullest and will support what they see fit with their money. Some, like you, don't care as much and will support what they see fit with their money. Simple concept.

I agree with you but the problem with that is some PS4 owners tend overblow their machines capabilites.

There are 3 games out of all PS4 titles which aren't 1080p, so you can bet it's the norm.

And will be till...? I don't ever think Sony imposed a mandatory resolution for games.

Imagine MS in place of EA in this GIF...

Or better yet... imagine both on the left hand side.

The numbers in the right should be dropping from 1080p/60fps until reaching 900/30fps :P

They should.
I hope this will stop the whiners.
I can't tell the difference between 1080 and 720 when sitting 10fts away from my TV anyway.
I can't wait to play Unity, 900 and 720 is an even meager difference if they do decide to drop it to that resolution.
Parity helps gamers experience the same thing...why don't you guys care about the working class? I can't afford a PC or a PS4 to experience the better performance on these multiplatorm games.

Is this real life?

Bravo, haha.

If that was the issue than they should say that, not that they're doing it to avoid 'debates and stuff.'

Which makes me wonder if there is more to this story... It's asinine to think this decision was made to avoid "debates and stuff" especially since it probably is going to bring about a much larger debate.

My guess would be that they had decided on 900p/30fps for PS4 a long time ago and XB1 was originally planned at 792p/30fps and then MS engineers came in to help push the resolution to parity with help from the June SDK.

Because if you can get it running at 900p30 on XBone, you can inherently get it running at 1080p30 on PS4 all things being equal.

In other words if all things are equal in other aspects, they must be artificially gimping the game on PS4.

Does this apply in reverse? Such as "If you can get the PS4 version running at 1080p, you can get the equal XBO version running at 900p"? Because that's not the case either. It's not a math equation, there are a ton of things that affect the final product.

The simplest answer (especially given W_D running at 900p on PS4) is that they couldn't hit that 1080p/30fps target on PS4 so they pulled it back to what works. A week ago, Shadows of Mordor was 1080p/60 on PS4 and 720p/30 on XBO. Turns out people are idiots and don't know what they're talking about... maybe waiting for something a little more concrete to start canceling orders and calling the death of the industry would work.

I've been saying for a long while that devs might do this. Well done Ubi.

Has anyone made the "Ubisoft just shot themselves in the foot" joke yet?

I did. But it was making fun of the people caring about parity and resolution. That is the least of this games problems.

The game is simply not polished. That is greater concern than anything people are freaking out over in this thread.

I actually listen to this podcast. You can sometimes hear a bit bias but this was ... really weird for them to say... I was convinced devs would keep doing 720p cos power and it didn't matter but then I saw the difference day one and I was sold.

I dunno what possessed them to say this...

A bit? A bit!? Ryan McCaffrey is the last person from partial when it comes to anything xbox related. Lest we forget:

And Mitch Dyer is nothing more than a mouth piece for anything xbox. He's the moron that thinks you can't tell the difference between resolutions. Hes even worse on Rebel FM when he has Arthur Gies around

GamersGlobal.de says the E3-version of the game (PC) was considerably more impressive than the X1-version at the preview event in Paris.

We had 7 years of an entire gen to see more then what has happened this year. I only had a PS3 last gen (never had an X360 for your surprise) and played Bayonetta like crazy, and it was much worse then any difference this gen.
I played bayonetta on the PS3 as well, it looked much better on the 360 but that was not because the 360 was more powerful. Bayonetta was developed like a 360 exclusive at Platinum and was given a quick and dirty port to the PS3 by a Sega b team. This is not the case with any of the multiplats developed so far this gen, even the ones with the biggest disparity.

The architecture was different between platforms last gen, a quick and dirty port down to the ps3 would always end up in a mess, despite the fact that the PS3 was the more capable piece of hardware overall.

Now try explaining to me how developing a game across similar architecture where the PS4 is much more powerful and easier to develop for is going to net you a similar game parity-wise?

It doesn't matter, what the reasoning may be, however ridiculous you or I may/not find it. People will do with their money as they please.

This is very disappointing. I wasn't planning on buying Assasins Creeed Unity, but i can understand the frustration for those who are. Let's hope this is not going to be Ubisoft's policy moving forward.

Are we really thinking this is a pay off from Microsoft? Surely that can't be right.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff,"

or

"We decided to lock them at the same specs because MS gave us a fuckton of money"

The second one seems like it makes more sense, no? I mean just look at this fucking thread :lol

Honestly... I could see this as a justification if they have a laundry list of bugs to address still and they were able to hit their lower end rendering targets for both systems. But then I would expect a post-launch patch to improve resolution, framerate, and/or effects in the PS4 version. Sometimes it's dang near impossible to optimize and improve something that is probably a lower priority to the software managers in a time crunch.

CPU bound is about framerate, they're targeting 30fps because they're CPU bound.

yes but, the very previous ubisoft game, the one that sony had the marketing deal on,
it was ....guess what..... 900p on ps4. and 30fps too.

this one is more demanding, their problem is cpu -as they say in the same article that is discussed here- the xbone does not have a disadvantage on cpu, but the opposite,
yet its xbox that is holding back the ps4. once again....

does not compute very much, but whatever...
