Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Why is everyone so self-righteous about their ps4 edition of this game?
When you watch a movie in DVD or Bluray which one do you pay more for? The blu-ray one because it includes better sound and better picture quality sometimes a behind-the-scenes bonus but you pay roughly 50% more.

Game developers do not get anything back because they push their game to 1080p or 60fps there is no return on investment here. They still only get 60$ just like on the XO version and there is nothing justifying the extra cost just because a little group of people rants about 600k extra freaking pixels.
If the technology and investment is already there then of course you can push forward like for example InfamouS.
A company like ubisoft which created a new engine version because if next-gen then it is going to take time and investment to reach higher grounds.

1080p or 60fps is just extra gravy if the initial budget only covers the technology necessary to reach the minimum reference quality - in this case Xbox one

Of course there can always be some external "tampering" - which ms in this case is accused for but in my opinion that is a lot less likely.

Unity probably already costs A lot of freaking money and I am pretty sure they are running out of money for anymore changes. For them to invest extra resources for a freaking res-bump is not a priority.

This PR is howecer extremely and so freaking poorly planned and written that it would hace been beat if it wasnt released.
This... this can't be real

And could you please tell me how many of those who will look up into the Internet and see 900p and then go bananas and sell or not buy their copy? Its a pretty little encapsulated group

Stuff like this creates a ripple effect on social networking sites.

Wonder how big the shitstorm will be if Activision announces CoD:AW is 900p on both consoles too.

I just don't feel like buying a sub-1080p game 12 months after the consoles launched. If Infamous and almost every PS4 game is 1080p, I'm sure Ubisoft could've put the extra effort to get this game to that level too. Guess they thought consumers won't care and will buy the game anyway so they left it at 900p.

Gamers are some the most informed consumers in the buying world.

Ubisoft is trending on Twitter...the ps4 parity hashtag thing has exploded already.

You're arguing about sales now which none of us are really doing.

I don't see anything Ubisoft or PS4 parity trending on Twitter.

I see Twin Peaks trending on Twitter though. I can believe people are talking about that.

This... this can't be real

Well at least they got the theme of their game right. That's exactly how we used to do it in France back then.

I spent wayyyy to much of time on this crap

I lost it at the ropes being broken lines.

Your post is a perfect example.
You have complete faith in your pulled-from-ass theory about why the PS4 version is 900p despite Ubi straight-up admitting why.
The most unbelievable part of this Conspiracy is that it requires you take the word of one of IT'S CONSPIRATORS at face value. The entire point is that they're lying to you about the nature of the parity! Why are you trusting Ubisoft at all in this matter?

If Microsoft was paying for this, why would the official statement say that parity was the result of "ending arguements"? That line inherently implies one console is superior, but a choice is being made on moral grounds to limit it. Why wouldnt Microsoft insist both consoles are being pushed to their limits? Why wouldn't they enforce this rule on other Ubisoft multiplats? Why would Ubisoft agree to a clause that, if discovered, would burn a multi-million dollar relationship with Sony?

It's NONSENSE.

I caught this at work today, so I didn't have the chance to respond "Fucka YOU, Ubisoft" until just now. Sorry for the wait.

I was going to skip the title anyway, given Ubisoft's recent attitude toward gamers and their franchises in general. The games just aren't fun any more. But now? No f'in' way.

Stuff like this creates a ripple effect on social networking sites.

a lot of non-enthusiasts are going to be downright pissed that their game looks the same on the box their friend down the street has, instead of better. they'll be lining up to boycott the new Assassin's Creed.

Lol at the thinking that Microsoft isn't behind this.
It's like people forget that Microsoft sent their own workers to Bungie and Blizzard to make Destiny and Diablo 1080p. Which is absolutely ridiculous. So yes, I'm 100% sure that Microsoft is behind this because they are taking this resolution gate thing seriously.
If they really wanted to take resolution gate seriously perhaps they should have released a technologically superior gaming platform like they did the past two generations - which was, ultimately, how they cultivated such a loyal customer base in the living room (well, that and Xbox LIVE... which Sony was playing catch up on for years).

I wasn't planning to buy either game at launch but I doubt I'll buy either one period at this point.

I don't know or care if Microsoft paid for the versions to be identical, blaming everything on them as some kind of crazed masterminds of wanting to hurt the game as whole doesn't seem likely. Also this conspiracy theory is bullshit because we rather believe that there was some great evil at work (Microsoft) that made this happen then admit that its likely Ubisoft just did something really stupid.

My problem is that we are getting an inferior version (no matter how small) for all systems now, imagine if we had companies pulling this crap last generation? Imagine every version of Skyrim being identical to the PS3 version (it's still horribly buggy!)! Is that what we can look forward to in the future, every version has to be the same so the system that clearly has better power (not to mention PC! Must PC users get a watered down version because of a freaking console?) can't take advantage of it? Ubisoft makes some great games, but they make some of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen, and shit like this WILL hurt their sales because EVERYONE is now talking about it.

he's saying microsoft cares a lot about resolution parity. they are very sensitive. it's obviously not proof.

I've been saying it, but no one at Ubisoft woke up one day and said "let's dial back the PS4 version to parity just for the hell of it!". There was no coin toss, either. Heads, parity, tales no parity.

Things happen for a reason. Shutting down discussion isn't a valid reason because it's obviously ridiculous.

2 + 2

I'm not saying UBI isn't doing something wrong, but outright blaming Microsoft for something we don't know the answer to doesn't make the situation better. We don't actually know what the case is why they are both 900/30 other than what was stated here. In the end, it was Ubisofts decision to do this.

Maybe people are slighly overreacting. Same resolution and FPS does not mean the effects themselves are identical. There will surely be some areas in which the PS4 will show its stronger hardware advantage.

You're missing the point.

The first two things people care about in terms of graphics/performance is resolution and FPS.

Am I going to boot Shadow of Mordor on my PC and play it at 720p and 20fps so I can use the Ultra settings for everything else? Hell fucking no.

So are PS4 users going to care that their console got them some better shadows because the game was locked down to 900p and 30fps? I'm going to go ahead and say no.

This thread is 79 f*cking pages long. Of course people are overreacting, it's a resolutiongate thread.

This is infuriating. I had the collector's edition pre-ordered and I really wanted that statue! Well guess what! Pre-order just canceled. I'll buy this crap pre-owned 6 months down the line from Gamestop and ebay the statue for 20 bucks. Fuck you Ubisoft.

The thing I dont understand is that after Far Cry 3, Watch Dogs, and now this? Why do sheep still purchase their games? I haven't purchase an EA game is years.

Fuck everyone who says this is a non issue.
Agreed. Those people need to fuck off and not even bother posting in this thread.

This is a huge issue which sets a precedent for future multi-platform titles.

Anyone who doesn't oppose this awful practice is scum.

What does locked at the same spec mean to you?

Actually, what he said is that it means that the native resolution is 900p and the frame rate is locked (which is actually just a euphemism for capped) at 30.

That does NOT mean everything else is the same between two versions.

The most cynical and literal takeaway of what he said is that everything else will be the same too. Perhaps that reading is perfectly justified due to the stupid way the producer worded it.

However, it is not the only possible outcome.

Here are some entirely plausible scenarios that would not contradict the guy's original words:

- PS4 version stays at 30fps more constantly than the Xbox One version.
- PS4 version features superior AA.
- PS4 version features better textures.

Don't get me wrong; what the producer said is almost PERFECTLY tailored to be interpreted as "we're just gonna force complete parity guyz." It's a PR blunder of absurd proportions. However, that doesn't mean the reality is as bad as you're expecting based on these words.

Oh wow, I was planning on purchasing Unity once it hit the bargain bin. Look's like that won't be happening. Good job Ubi!

It's a conspiracy theory. People will dodge any logic they can to support their pre-existing assumptions.

I have complete faith this parity is just the result of Ubisoft being unable to hit 1080p on PS4.

In order to believe that then you have to ignore the raw power difference of 40% between the xbox one gpu and the ps4 gpu.
Even though their specs have been common knowledge for over a year now.
That gap of 40% is the smallest it will ever be even with sdk optimizations - its just the raw power difference between the gpus.
Believeing Ubisoft couldnt get the game running at 1080p on ps4 is just ignoring facts.

Maybe people are slighly overreacting. Same resolution and FPS does not mean the effects themselves are identical. There will surely be some areas in which the PS4 will show its stronger hardware advantage.

Ubi said 'We decided to lock them at the same specs", that means full parity.

let me know when you see the difference between 1080 and 900.

it can be pretty easy to tell, idk, i've been pc gaming for years and for a long time i had shit setups where I had to run my games at non-native resolution so I've been exposed to a bunch. There's a couple of games that do an impressive enough job of masking it like BF4 on PS4 and Ryse but 1080p has a distinct clearness to it that I think is still really easy to distinguish on a 1080p screen from smaller resolutions.

You realize the price of DVDs actually went down from where blu-rays were originally priced right? If anything, your analogy would only make sense if the Xbox One version were cheaper.
Im just trying to take an example that for something to be worth the extra effort and investment then there has to been someway that you(ubisoft) can benefit from. Why would Ubisoft put in extra effort for a res-bump because a clear minority demands it?

The prices for DVDs and Blurays has gone down more because of streaming and piracy than their format wars.

Just for clarification here I would want to have 1080p or 60fps in all my ps4 games but that wont happen for several reasons - investment being one of them.
But I'm not going to demand the super high-end stuff because its simply possible. Everything is possible but do I invest in it and what do I sacrifice is what is the key in this. Its just like the iphone games promoting higher resolution games than ps360 games but in all other aspects how do these games stack up to their ps360 counterparts?

One more this year and they will have a hat-trick. Now will it be The Crew or FC4....PLACE YOUR BETS!
It'll have to be FC4. Nobody will care enough about The Crew... controversy would be a step up for Ubisoft because that would mean people would have an emotional investment in how that game turns out.

If you folks are genuinely upset at this, please vote with your wallet. Cancel pre-orders,
bombard Ubisoft with tweets, buy the game used a month or 2 down the line.

Hit them where it counts :3

The salty PS4 only owners are making this great. I love my PS4, and XBone. I'll be picking this up on PS4 assuming performance is better. But if it's not, I'll pick it up on the XBone as I haven't played too much of anything on it in a while.

Agreed. Those people need to fuck off and not even bother posting in this thread.

Woah, that's a bit harsh isn't it? I agree that Ubi fucked up but calling people scum for having a different opinion isn't really fair.

So are PS4 users going to care that their console got them some better shadows because the game was locked down to 900p and 30fps? I'm going to go ahead and say no.

If those "PS4 users" understand nuance, they will know that it is quite possible to get a heavier bang for the buck than that last 180p. If it's purely a numberzzzzz race, then sure, you don't care. You just want the 1080p. If it's more about the actual visual impression, then you would consider the tradeoffs.

Note that in no way am I saying the PS4 version *will* get nice things in return for staying at 900p. Just that it's entirely possible and not necessary nothing.
