Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

For what its worth, when I played it at Fanexpo, the sony spokesperson said the game was running at 1080 and 60FPS.

But I didn't notice because I was busy riding a god damn elephant

Is that a joke? cuz if it isn't, fuck ubisoft. Elephants at a goddamn E3...Elephant crushing

Why is everyone so self-righteous about their ps4 edition of this game?
When you watch a movie in DVD or Bluray which one do you pay more for? The blu-ray one because it includes better sound and better picture quality sometimes a behind-the-scenes bonus but you pay roughly 50% more.
Game developers do not get anything back because they push their game to 1080p or 60fps there is no return on investment here. They still only get 60$ just like on the XO version and there is nothing justifying the extra cost just because a little group of people rants about 600k extra freaking pixels.
If the technology and investment is already there then of course you can push forward like for example InfamouS.
A company like ubisoft which created a new engine version because if next-gen then it is going to take time and investment to reach higher grounds.

1080p or 60fps is just extra gravy if the initial budget only covers the technology necessary to reach the minimum reference quality - in this case Xbox one

Of course there can always be some external "tampering" - which ms in this case is accused for but in my opinion that is a lot less likely.

Unity probably already costs A lot of freaking money and I am pretty sure they are running out of money for anymore changes. For them to invest extra resources for a freaking res-bump is not a priority.

PS4 install base >>>>>>>>>>>>> Xbone.

Nah. We don't know at what cost.
We don't know if it's actual, complete parity or its just resolution and target framerate.
If both versions are indeed identical, one could imagine ps4's was somehow capped.
But like I said, I doubt they'll be the same except when it comes to numbers that are easily compared.

Now though, Destiny. That was exactly the same game. Magically o not, Bungie did just reach parity, but I don't see people getting mad at that for not having better AA and whatnot on PS4, although it is safe to assume it could look/perform much better than it does.

people were/are upset about Destiny parity, it's just that the game came out, with a host of other issues, so parity is the least of anyone's worries with that game, at the moment.

It is a conspiracy theory

Ya'll are basing it on nothing

MS doesn't have a multi million dollar marketing deal for this game?

MS hasn't sent engineers (money) to other devs to get Xone versions running at the same res as PS4?

Every other Ubi game runs at higher res on PS4?

Crazy.

This is really poor logic. PS4 has a larger install base and there are other factors at play here.

I could easily see MS being involved like in Destiny and Diablo; helping Ubi get the X1 version up to 900/30. I have a hard time believing that they paid to downgrade the PS4 version.

My thoughts as well. The former is them getting their version up to speed...the latter is a lot more ridiculous in nature and is based on zero evidence (let alone any past examples).

Lol at the thinking that Microsoft isn't behind this.
It's like people forget that Microsoft sent their own workers to Bungie and Blizzard to make Destiny and Diablo 1080p. Which is absolutely ridiculous. So yes, I'm 100% sure that Microsoft is behind this because they are taking this resolution gate thing seriously.

So your saying Microsoft sent people to Ubisoft to sabotage the PS4 version? Got some proof of this?

You're right, Ubisoft should at least downgrade the price.

If a money hat took place here Id agree MS and Ubi have hit new lows. On the other hand, this is the only way MS knows how to compete as evidenced by pretty much everything they've done since, oh, 1986. They basically buy up, buy off, shut out and Borg the competition. Would something like this really be all that surprising?

With that said, for me personally I was never going to buy this game until it hits $15 or less anyway. For all the good times Ive had recently with AC2, the AC series in general seems like the poster child for annualized, copy-paste, hit x to win games that generally just aren't that great or consistently fun despite the wonderful production values...and certainly not for full retail price. I'll be playing AC3 and/or Black Flag when Unity drops, because I picked those up for $10 and $9, respectively...which is an acceptable price to me for such mediocrity. I wont bother picking up Unity for another year when it will also be $15 or less. I'm able to forgive a lot more at those price points and overall gaming as a hobby is far less disappointing. Highly recommended. :)~

This PR is howecer extremely and so freaking poorly planned and written that it would hace been beat if it wasnt released.

You realize the price of DVDs actually went down from where blu-rays were originally priced right? If anything, your analogy would only make sense if the Xbox One version were cheaper.

It's a conspiracy theory. People will dodge any logic they can to support their pre-existing assumptions.

I have complete faith this parity is just the result of Ubisoft being unable to hit 1080p on PS4.

Your post is a perfect example.
You have complete faith in your pulled-from-ass theory about why the PS4 version is 900p despite Ubi straight-up admitting why.

I like how they try and justify it by saying CPU is an issue. Yeah it is, for framerate(although you would have locked it to 30 anyway since it is the 'gold standard' Ubi) but GPU is what defines resolution, and you forced that parity.

There is no proof, hence the additional debate.

But the problem is the things we know:

* Ubisoft said it's CPU bound, spouting AI bullshit, but not mentioning GPU
* The Xbox One is considerably (40%~50%) weaker than the PS4
* They run on very similar architecture
* The only games that match parity have maxed out at common thresholds like 720/1080p and 30/60
* The game runs at 900p/30 on both devices
* 900p is NOT a threshold
* 1080p isn't a huge jump from 900p.
* Microsoft has been at the forefront of AC:Unity marketing

Combining all of that, we know that a device that is vastly more capable than the other should be easily able to make the jump from 900p to 1080p. No problem. Why pick such a weird resolution for the PS4 when it obviously is powerful than the XB1?

It's pretty easy to figure out the issue.

Spot on. It feels like you'd need to be willfully ignorant not to connect the dots here...

I can use conjecture to connect dots too

*watchdogs was 900p/30 fps on ps4 compared to 792fps/30fps on Xbox one
*watchdogs and ac:u have very similar engines
*Xbox had a firmware update that opened up 10% gpu reserve
*Microsoft has been working individually with developers to get there games to parity
*Microsoft has been at the forefront of Act's marketing and has been showing the game on XB1

Combining all of that I think we can come to the conclusion that Microsoft sent it's wizards into Ubisoft to force parity on everyone.

My point is no one has any idea what actually happened but I think it'd ridiculous to assume that Ubisoft took MS money to make there game worse. Think about that for a second.

It is a conspiracy theory

Ya'll are basing it on nothing

The hardware difference of both console is a real good starting point.

And then you have all the reasons numbered by so many people in this thread. incl. the MS marketing deal, most of all.

Nothing? I don't think so...

MS doesn't have a multi million dollar marketing deal for this game?

MS hasn't sent engineers (money) to other devs to get Xone versions running at the same res as PS4?

Every other Ubi game runs at higher res on PS4?

Crazy.

None of that proves anything. There is no documented evidence of a parity clause or them deliberately paying for a downgrade (lol).

So your saying Microsoft sent people to Ubisoft to sabotage the PS4 version? Got some proof of this?

he's saying microsoft cares a lot about resolution parity. they are very sensitive. it's obviously not proof.

I've been saying it, but no one at Ubisoft woke up one day and said "let's dial back the PS4 version to parity just for the hell of it!". There was no coin toss, either. Heads, parity, tales no parity.

Things happen for a reason. Shutting down discussion isn't a valid reason because it's obviously ridiculous.

2 + 2

Lol at the thinking that Microsoft isn't behind this.

well, it's common sense that MS takes the whole performance thing very seriously. buyers nowadays are very well informed thanks to the interweb and social media. it is common knowledge (through typical buyer research before spending $300) that the ps4 is superior to the xbo when it comes to hardware. people want the most for their money, and they'll get the better performing hardware for roughly the same amount of money.

i planned on getting a ps4 this week, but i'm getting mine tonight. biggest reason is the value you get for the money. less expensive than the xbo, and better performing.

So realistically, if Ubisoft said, for parity sake, we are doing the game at 720p, in which we all know is parity with the Wii U..... You would be fine with this?

Please explain how it's extremely childish to want better?

Because of the pages of accusations as to why it is this way. We have had no indication that the game even was ever running higher than what it will be on release. And for your theoretical Wii U parity they would have to most likely greatly diminish the crowds, draw distance, textures, etc to reach "parity not a simple bump down to 720p.

There isn't anything wrong with wanting the best quality product, but when people complain because they feel as if they are being lied to and that there is some sort of a conspiracy just because every PS4 game needs to be better than the X1 version, then yes I have a problem with that.

You realize consoles hold back PC games too right with inferior hardware?

You know how most PC strategy games don't actually use PC hardware exceptionally well? And how MOBAs and MMOs have only moderate system requirements and manage to be the best selling games on the platform? PCs hold back themselves. If you want more high-end PC games, convince people to get better PCs instead of trying to kill consoles with the awesome power of mudslinging.

Game developers do not get anything back because they push their game to 1080p or 60fps there is no return on investment here.

They do, however, lose sales when they mention they could have made a game 1080p and 60fps but chose not to just for parity sake.

I was already questioning whether or not to pick this game up. This just made my decision that much easier. I'm not buying a purposely gimped game.

Also...

When you watch a movie in DVD or Bluray which one do you pay more for? The blu-ray one because it includes better sound and better picture quality sometimes a behind-the-scenes bonus but you pay roughly 50% more.

Does that mean PS4 owners should be entitled to a 50% discount since they said themselves this is the inferior version they are trying to sell to them?

Lol at the thinking that Microsoft isn't behind this.
It's like people forget that Microsoft sent their own workers to Bungie and Blizzard to make Destiny and Diablo 1080p. Which is absolutely ridiculous. So yes, I'm 100% sure that Microsoft is behind this because they are taking this resolution gate thing seriously.

Brilliant logic! So if they can get other 900p games to 1080p with just some work (good old-fashioned programming, imagine that), why would they take just this one, out of all of them, and decide to cut the other version down instead of just doing the same thing again and getting Good Guy Points™?

So your saying Microsoft sent people to Ubisoft to sabotage the PS4 version? Got some proof of this?

Sabotage? No.. just a nice payday. Devs warned this was going to be a thing when they saw the power difference between the two. It's now a thing, out in the open.

And could you please tell me how many of those who will look up into the Internet and see 900p and then go bananas and sell or not buy their copy? Its a pretty little encapsulated group

Gamers are some the most informed consumers in the buying world.

Ubisoft is trending on Twitter...the ps4 parity hashtag thing has exploded already.

You're arguing about sales now which none of us are really doing.

Where was this so called righteousness of not buying the game because of parity when Bungie did the same thing with Destiny? And that game is marketed by Sony.

We don't even know if AC : Unity features better graphical effects, more stable framerate on PS4 than its Xbox counterpart but you guys already going nuts.

Talk about picking your battles.

What does locked at the same spec mean to you?

So your saying Microsoft sent people to Ubisoft to sabotage the PS4 version? Got some proof of this?

Lol wtf? No, its more like they took Microsofts money to not work on the PS4 version as much as they should be. There is absolutely no reason for Unity to not be 1080p. Like 1 or 2 games are not 1080p on PS4. The PS4 is very easy to develop for so getting 1080p should be just normal effort. So the fact that it isn't 1080p means that they haven't worked on the PS4 as much as they should have.

So your saying Microsoft sent people to Ubisoft to sabotage the PS4 version? Got some proof of this?

Well, every Ubi game ran at higher settings on PS4 until now, MS is behind the marketing of ACU and suddenly we have our first parity, the dev literally says to avoid debates, something they were comfortable with with previous games.

Sabotage? No.. just a nice payday. Devs warned this was going to be a thing when they saw the power difference between the two. It's now a thing, out in the open.

What Devs? What did they say?

Well, every Ubi game ran at higher settings on PS4 until now, MS is behind the marketing of ACU and suddenly we have our first parity, the dev literally says to avoid debates, something they were comfortable with with previous games.

Maybe they sent additional engineers to help get the X1 version up to 900p. Sony needs to start doing the same when they see a game is not going to hit 1080p.

Wouldn't be surprised if Msft pulled a parity contract for launch. Doesn't mean Ubi isn't waiting a week after the game launches or at most a month out from launch and put out a patch on PS4. They probably aren't allowed to due to contractual obligations at launch.

Didn't Msft have some crazy contractual obligations like any multi plat game needs to launch on xbox first or simultaneously?

Well at least they got the theme of their game right. That's exactly how we used to do it in France back then.

I spent wayyyy to much of time on this crap

Would the 10% cpu reserve not make that difference up?

Maybe people are slighly overreacting. Same resolution and FPS does not mean the effects themselves are identical. There will surely be some areas in which the PS4 will show its stronger hardware advantage.
