"... and don't even get me started on 60 FPS! Anything above 30 gives you cancer!"
Is this a joke or did they actually utter those words?

Jesus is that real?
I remember it like it was 8 months agooh my god, that IGN clip, I hope it isn't real
And yet...No. I'm pretty sure I said the effect is in "all games generated using polygons" somewhere back there.
I was merely suggesting that IF AC: Unity was 1080p on the PS4 it would still have the effect that bothers me the most in games. Shimmery pixels when camera panning. I'm not suggesting any One system is immune to it if that's what you're implying.
Does not compute.I'm aware, I just don't consider 900p a major issue. For instance the 900p of BF4 didn't lessen my enjoyment of BF4 on the PS4... The endless bugs and server issues did. -_-

I think 900p 30fps is the standard for vast open world games on these budget machines. Isn't The Witcher 3 the same specs on PS4? Could be mistaken.
If you sit beyond an ideal distance from your tv (gaming) you won't benefit from some of the subtler details but you'll still see higher contrast aliasing. It all depends on screen size and distance to the screen. If you are 3m away from your screen, you better have a >50'' gigantic screen to be able to benefit from 1080p...It also needs to be full HD![]()
Oh, the Destiny excuse.

Inside Gaming Daily... I knew I shouldn't have bothered watching.

Must. Not. Cringe. Uaaaagghhh
As you can see from my helpful code, the Pixel Shimmer effect happens with ALL games using polygons, and resolution is on a separate part of the equation.
Assuming AC: Unity uses polygons, and knowing BF4 uses polygons, I can infer that because both games do (or would) feature the pixel shimmering effect and therefore all games 1080p, or 900p get knocked down 20 points automatically.
Resolution however, is it's own part of the equation, and as I laid out in the code, being that BF4 was not less than 900p, it did not affect my enjoyment of the game.
Therefore, we can infer that my statements do in fact compute.
You're welcome.
Isn't GTA V 1080P/30 fps as well?
"The PS4 could obviously push more data which is better for rendering scenes, computing shadows, aliasing textures, that sort of thing."
These guys are idiots. Not to mention that before that the computer guy completely fucked up the CPU comparison, too.

Are you seriously trying to say resolution makes no difference to pixel shimmer? As you can see from my helpful code, the Pixel Shimmer effect happens with ALL games using polygons, and resolution is on a separate part of the equation.

This is plainly untrue. There's different degrees of shimmer or noise. Higher resolutions and better forms antialiasing and filtering help reduce it significantly.Pixel Shimmer effect happens with ALL games using polygons
I'm not sure what you've captured but it's not even 1920 pixels wide.Screengrab:

You really can't complain at all about the visuals.

Destiny is locked at 30 fps to force parity with last gen as well. The game looks very similar comparing last gen vs current. I can see the sharp edges on the purple ball in the tower. My cape bends like paper. The Destiny excuse honestly bugs the crap out of me too.
"Hey guys, I have a great idea. Lets spend way more time working on the version that's going to sell a lot less!"
I'd be much more ok with it if the One had a 2:1 lead over PS4 instead of the other way around, but this baffles me.

Is it, though? Is it that wrong for a company to want its game being judged without resolution being the huge factor it apparently is? Obviously that backfired but the original intent is not to fuck over anyone, I believe. I think it's more likely that publishers aren't that happy with resolution becoming the sole focal point each time a new game is being released. They probably want everyone to be excited for the game, not fighting on forums over which version is the best. Again, it obviously backfired because the Ubisoft guy came out and said it but I understand the idea behind it. I think more and more publishers will end up following that route in the future.
XB1 footage.Is that PC footage?
Ps4 vs 360 is not worlds apart. It looks like a higher res version. You must be joking. The Ps3 and Ps4 versions are a world apart.
Uh, is this a direct capture? Why is it 1440x900?
Ps4 vs 360 is not worlds apart. It looks like a higher res version.
Publishers will NOT follow this route in the future, gamers are too savvy of consumers and too in tune to social media. Quite frankly the only way this Res/FPS debate will end is when Xbox owners accept they don't have the most powerful system this gen and "deal with it". Accept the One for what it is, a good, solid system that will have some great exclusives and of course Halo (plus it is a damn fine living room media box). Also accept that it is weaker and except for the anomaly here and there it will never perform as well as a PS4 on multi platform titles. It's science and fact. Why is this a problem?
I really wish they'd fix the crushed blacks...XB1 footage.

You haven't really explained why the thing that bothers you most visually doesn't affect your enjoyment of a game. I don't see how you can separate the two. It's like you didn't even read my helpful code snippet... :/
Suffice it to say it doesn't matter anyway as enjoyment of a game is a purely subjective thing anyway. In my subjective view, 900p doesn't detract from my enjoyment of a game. 720p is another story entirely.
Of course it's bad. And rendering a lower resolution means fewer pixels to render solid details. More sub-pixel detail which is difficult to antialias.I'm confused, wouldn't higher contrast _aliasing_ be bad?
If not, is this a result of working on a bigger framebuffer rather than having your TV displaying 1080p? (meaning I'd still benefit from that even in 720p screens, assuming the downsampling doesn't offset that benefit)
