When you peel away the animu, Miku is honestly pretty fascinating. Its the democratization of popular music and pop stars. Imagine if anybody could create a Katy Perry sing. Imagine if anybody could create a Kanye West song. I think vocaloid type stuff stands a chance of succeeding in the US if you build the character around our culture instead of importing a very Japanese character.

So is there a real voice behind this character or is it computer generated?

What's the target audience for this?

Vita owners.

Agreed. It doesn't take a genious to figure out tonight won't end well. I think vocaloid is the defining musical technology of the era but it's still a very strange concept.
Yeah, and that's why I think they should concentrate less on pushing Miku, the "pop star", and more on pushing the actual music and the premise of vocaloid.

I've found tons of awesome trance tracks built around Hatsune Miku on YouTube, and vocaloid's strength is its ability to be easily incorporated into the projects of thousands of indie artists.

It wasn't until I had some music I liked basically forced upon me, encouraging me to search for more on my own, that the overall idea clicked.

Dave's probably into this stuff and is just getting all of his weird likes out before the show's over.

Yeah, that's it.

Can't wait for Letterman's reaction.

(assuming Letterman doesn't know Miku is not a real person)

Letterman: Please welcome Hatsune Miku

*outcomes Miku on TV screen*

Miku: Kon'nichiwa!

Letterman: 0_O I want to retire now!

I'd be there immediately if that was a bit more literal and had Colbert immediately step in and handle the interview.

With such great hits as "Vegetable Juice"

Now, drink it! You like it, don't you? Vegetable juice
I've decided. I've decided just now.
So drink it! My vegetable juice
It costs 200 yen

I'm truly baffled by how popular this awful sounding vocaloid has become. I mean sure, it was cute for a few youtube videos, but can someone explain to me how this is so popular? I see this weird shit in car commercials and now Letterman? The fuck.

“She doesn’t have an attitude,” he says. “She never asks, only gives, and we know that when the curtain closes, she’s not off at some nightclub snorting cocaine or being arrested for DUI.”

Omg someone photoshop Miku doing the opposite of the above lol. I love Miku she is fun and interesting character. Can't wait for DIVA F 2nd :)

Gorillaz?

First thing I thought of, but it is a little different since the Gorillaz characters were covers for actual artists such as Damon Albarn. As far as I can tell, Hatsune Miku is completely computer generated (including vocals). Their performances had a screen that covered the artists performing with CG representations of the band up front.

This and worse has existed for quite some some.

Then she's already doomed. Half the fun of pop musicians is watching their spirals of self destruction.

Miku is a pretty interesting look into a possiblen (partial) future music, going to be interesting to see her in Letterman.

Personally I didn't care much for vocaloid songs until I got Project Diva f, it was weird at first but I eventually put 60 hours on it and I quire enjoy it now.
