Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

Serious question: What has Sony been doing with all the money from PS+? The service and online user interface is just about the same level of sub-standard shit as when it was free...

Paying publishers for their games maybe?

Because people keep using the Driveclub situation as an excuse to go HAM on PSN. I've tried to clear that up in this very thread but nobody cares.

It is a legitimate question since its directly related. We were told that PS+ going to a paid model would increase the quality of the online experience. Thus far the results are debateable at best.

I used to download games on PS3 which took around 3 hours to get a full 4-6GB game. I now download a full 30GB game in about 30 mins (160+Mb download)

The actual service seems the same, the download speeds have gone through the roof and I'm happy with that.

I couldn't agree with these experience anymore. I'm somehow downloading entire 40+ gig games in a few hours on a 5Mb ADSL connection. For someone planning on mostly digital this generation i'm overly thrilled at the DL speed improvements.

That's a legitimate answer for part of the outlay. On the other hand, the number of indie PS+ games has gone up significantly and has essentially replaced the previous idea of putting (older) AA and AAA games up. This makes sense as a cost-saving and logistics move on both the PS3 and PS4 since last gen is winding down and there's not a lot of stuff available yet for the new system. But I'm still a little skeptical as to what the large tronch of PS+ cash is being used for bc it certainly isn't costing all that scratch for indie titles...and PSN itself is as janky as ever.

I have 50mbps Comcast and honestly dont see/feel any difference in download speeds from Sony's servers vs. a couple yrs back before they switched to a pay model and when I had 16mbps. It still takes way too long to download big files like game demos. Maybe speed differences are regional. Thats really great for u. But where I'm at any improvements in that regard seem negligible.

I really don't believe it was Evo's intention to cause this but I admit with each passing day I get a bit more tempted to pay the 40€ though I won't carve!
I hope I won't
:/ Not with Bayonetta 2 and Samurai Warriors 4 on the horizon D:

The value of PS+ being defined with a list is disingenuous. It takes away any individuality a person may have and taste in games they may have. On the Vita, PS+ paid for itself really, but I honestly only enjoyed P4G, the rest aren't games I spent more than an hour with (that I tried at least).

I know people may think it's crazy, but some of us really did buy PS+ at launch specifically for DC, and the MP and such was just an addition to that, and we might not think a huge a list of Indie games is "value" when we either 1) have them on other systems or 2) aren't interested in them.

It's why I've been in every thread praising it, every wheel thread hoping and then being disappointed, every graphics thread, every "new gameplay" thread. This was my main motivator to buy PS+ when the PS4 launched based off the early reveal. It was only after that that the delays and definition of few© and the reality of wheel support came to fruition. After I had already purchased it. I bought a Vita months later.

Surprising how off they were with their estimation of the servers, considering it broke just on full copies without any of the probably close to 8 million plus users that should be trying it.

I could see this delay lasting a week or so at least, and even then they will probably stagger the release like it was planned (US then Europe a few days later then UK a few days after that) to not put too much pressure on the servers.

Not for me

Bad :

Roads Not Taken
Sportsfriends

The list has been fantastic so far. Velocity 2X / Pix the Cat / Don't Starve / Resogun have been my overall favorites.

showing how opinions are opinions, I love Sportsfriends... you cant play it for tens of hours non stop, but when friends or kids come in, it is a lot of fun.

And ps+ on ps3 came years after launch when a large library had been amassed and 3rd parties would do deals on AAA products for the service...... That amount of time has not passed yet to allow similar level games to start appearing on the service on PS4.

Guess many dont understand and therefore lash out, many of the rest of us do understand and know its a service that evolves alongside the platform as its lifespan progresses.

I actually really enjoyed Road Not Taken. It's like chess but with a story.

I agree that Velocity 2X, Don't Starve and Resogun are amazing. I haven't played much of Pix The Cat though. I might have to change that :)

Back on topic, I'm really hoping that the PS+ version of Driveclub is released this weekend. I feel I've been mostly patient haha. Screenshots and gifs tend to make me feel a little less patient though!

It would be interesting to know what your expectation were when you bought the subscription.

6-12 month old AAA games like PS3. It's been a year since the mediocre Killzone has come out and the multiplayer has had lots of free maps added to a nearly dead community. Why no Killzone PS+ yet to help boost the community? I think most people based their expectations on the PS3. It was understandable why the PS4 didn't get free AAA games right away. It was a new system. That's not true anymore. There's lots of 6-12 month old games now.

People do need to realize that PS+ on PS3 had the entire back catalog of PS3 games to draw from when giving away freebies. When the PS4 came out, it was all brand new stuff with no back catalog. They had to build it up from scratch.

And yet here we are a year later, around the same amount of age many PS3 PS+ releases were, and still no Knack, Killzone, etc. The PS4 version continues to just be indie games. Which I think are important, but maybe it's time to ween a AAA game off the PS3 side and onto the PS4 side. You want to give incentive for people to upgrade, not stay put.

Yep. People post "all these games are GREAT!" lists. But you know what? Velocity was the only thing that I really thought was great on PS4 all year. The rest was a bunch of stuff I got bored of fast. Res0gun is hands down the most overrated game of the past year - I'm not saying nobody should enjoy it, but do all these people saying how great it is wax rapturous over Defender 2 as well?

The Vita was a goldmine though. They gave away every game with a development budget except Tearaway, Persona & Killzone, as well as every meaningful indie. I think if you don't like Vita PS +, you just don't like Vita period.

All 20$ indies, pix the cat...lmao

Pretty sure if you played the games you shit on, you wouldn't shit on them anymore.

Why do you want Knack and Killzone? I played Killzone. It's a flawed flawed game. That argument is such a strawman. I'd rather have pretty much any other game on PS+ than Killzone.

People usually post these games are great, because they are generally well liked. I'm sure they didn't consider the opinion of LiveFromKyoto before making such an opinion known. Their mistake, I'll make sure they know about it next time.

I guess we wont be able to play it on the weekend either :(, its a long weekend here in Canada, I was hoping to play a bit. Absolutely disappointing.

Do you even know what a strawman is? I don't see how describing exactly that AAA games on PS3 PS+ were around 12 months old and here we are 12 months later on PS4 and have yet to see a single AAA game is strawman when it's in response to "what were your expectations of PS+ on PS4?" I laid out my expectations without using a strawman argument. The fact is whether it's Killzone or NFS or AC4 or BF4 or Ghosts or whatever, we have reached a point where we should be seeing AAA PS+ titles based on how PS+ functions on PS3.

This still ain't up yet?

Get your shit together, Sony. Damn.

I bet Evolution staff are shitting bricks. Feel bad for them.

Cannot believe the PS+ version is still unavailable. The lack of meaningful communication about the delay or when to expect the promised free version is quite simply unacceptable. Get your shit together people's patience is running thin.

I would imagine this has more to do with Evolution than Sony.

Either way, the relationship must be pretty strained by now - wonder how much longer Sony keeps Evo under their umbrella of devs...

I remember back in the day, the Evolution directors were told by Phil Harrison that they were the "the worst [of Sony's first-party developers] in the world". And Evolution, rightfully so, wasn't all to happy about the target render for the first Motorstorm: http://bit.ly/1nfJAlZ

Fast forward to the PS4 and you have a product that has been delayed almost a year, lackluster review scores for what was once considered a flagship title, a PS+ version that is nowhere to be seen and servers that can't hold up. I still haven't been able to join a multiplayer match, let alone select it from the menu. Not only that, but I can't seem to justify the existence of Driveclub when Sony has Gran Turismo. When you have an established franchise like that, why bother making another? Personally, I would have loved another Motorstorm. Off-road, hectic racing just isn't prevalent as much as the NFS's, Midnight Clubs and Forzas today.

I can't imagine Evolution being around much longer, unfortunately. Factor 5 shut down for far less.

Serious question: What has Sony been doing with all the money from PS+? The service and online user interface is just about the same level of sub-standard shit as when it was free...

My experience with the service has been largely the same as what Xbox live offered during their time as the best selling platform.

They had holiday outages too you know.

So having a "mediocre" game available on PS+ would have made the service more amazing to you?

Being disappointed in the service has nothing to do with what you assume to be a lack in comprehension but rather a personal opinion.
I guess with the increase in service subscribers some people expected more out of the service that isn't being delivered.

Man you guys. The question wasn't what would make PS+ amazing. The question was "what were your expectations when signing up for the PS+ service". Those were my expectations since that's what was happening on PS3.

I expected to see AAA games by now. I'm not seeing them.

The trajectory of PS+ offerings on PS4 is fine. I'm sure they'll start slotting in some of those coveted "AAA" releases in the next few months, not sure why there's the need to obsess so much over the timing. Not like they aren't offering solid deals in the meantime. Yes, they're not always to everyone's taste, but they're never going to be. You think everyone's going to be universally thanking Sony when/if they start adding games like Knack and Shadowfall to the rotation? It might not be you complaining then but, sure as shit, there'll be plenty others complaining about a wasted PS+ game then. They may even wish it was...gasp...an indie game instead!!

This month alone, I'm personally interested in all three of the games they're offering for the PS4, for which the cost if I had to buy them outright would essentially account for my PS+ sub this year.

It's not a strawman, thank you for correcting me. However, it is a gross assumption. You're assuming that the situations are the same between PS3 and PS4. We know they're not. We know it's largely up to publishers to put games on Plus. And frankly the AAA games on PS4 are few and far between as it is. Going down your list:

NFS has a "complete" edition coming out this fall, they will not want to list that on Plus. Call of Duty has never been on Plus as far as I recall. BF4 is still getting regular updates and has DLC and frankly was a broken game for a long time. Not sure why you'd want that on Plus.

As far as AC4, my personal opinions about it being boring as sin aside, that one would probably make sense as Unity gets closer.

Because if that's it, that just goes to show there are not that many AAA games on PS4 that could go on Plus in the first place which makes this whole situation very logical.

You're welcome to your expectations of PS+ and I'm welcome to mine. I never said I was dissatisfied with the service at all. I was merely answering the question of "what were your expectations when you signed up for PS+." My expectations were based on looking at how the service functioned on PS3. And after a year, I questioned a bit why the service seems to still be functioning differently when based on my initial expectations of how PS+ would function, I expected the service to more closely resemble the PS3 version by now.

If it takes 2 years for that to happen, then so be it. But those are my eventual expectations for PS+.

Well someone is fucking up big time.

This game has been through hell :(

Is this funny?
PS+ service is amazing, considering it came years after GOLD and what value PS+ gave us I find this picture realy lame.

PS+ gave me so much games for 50€ its just crazy.

Its terrible on my Ps4 at least. Ive got a 100mb connection and I need to wait between 2/3 minutes after receiving a message to actually being able to read it.
My friend lists loads slowly, the store too,...
