PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

Oh crap Nidhogg and In Space We Brawl are out next week? Sucking the Money out of my Wallet.

Also i gave Dust a try because it's free and besides the Artstyle and Voiceacting the Game is fun. Pix the Cat is great, still have to download Spelunky.

Looking forward to some more Atelier games on my Vita. Especially since release and chronological order align here, bothered me more than it should with the Arland trilogy.

How is Child of Light, by the way? And does it have a demo on psn?

Beautiful to look at, mediocre to slightly annoying in everything else.

Can they possibly get around this by claiming its a "home console" instead of a "portable console"? Might some simple wording like that adjust the licensing with some of these games?
All ps1 games were on psp, it's not a home vs portable licensing issue, probably by platform, which is stupid

How is the PSP Metal Slug Anthology? Metal Slug X PSX terrified me when I played it on Vita: CUT-OUT ANIMATION FRAMES! CUT OUT! THE WALKING ANIMATION SCARRED MY EYES!

Didn't you just recently get a 64GB? I thought you liked DD

That sucka fills up fast. I finally got my 3 retail Vita games and with the other games I'm gonna add, I'll be using up the last 2 free GBs :V

Wait just one god damn second. There's a Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition for Vita?!

Like for real?!?!

I knew there was one for the PS4 (which I don't have the system yet) and as far as the PS3 goes they just decided to keep the two games separate...DW8 and DW8XL so I've held off on buying 2 separate games for a while now.

Well today I was just browsing GameStop's web so and saw this on Vita. Couldn't believe my eyes, never once have I noticed it :( and for $26.99 nonetheless. That's a damn good price! Unfortunately, no GameStop near me has it in stock and you can't order online at that price either.....and besides that, the price has gone back to its normal piece of $39.99 in any other retail stores.

No one happens to have a copy that they wouldn't mind selling for cheap do they?? Or could you check online at GameStop and see I'd any stores near you have it in stock? I'd even throe a little bit of extra cash your way for helping me out :)

Well I finally got Danganronpa from Play-Asia today. I ordered it on the 27th of August, when it was on sale for £18.07. It shipped on the 22nd of September. And then to add salt to the wound, I was forced to pay a customs charge of £11.67 today in order to actually obtain the package. So not only did I have to wait a fucking age for it to arrive, but when it did I had to pay an extra sum of money that rendered the whole point of importing in the first place completely pointless. You bet your ass I sent the site a very-miffed-in-tone message in response.

This game better be worth it.

You shall fall into despair. There's no escaping from it's grasp.
The series is amazing, hope you enjoy.

It's not outside the realm of possibility. Without access to any of the original agreements we're all just guessing. Licensing is a messy business. Something as simple as wording in some contracts that allows for downloading to PS3 and PSP systems with no clear exclusion of where it can be _played_ could explain, for example, why some games must be sideloaded from PS3 to fit the letter of the agreement. Whereas other contracts for some PSP games might specifically mention PSP as the only playable system.

We'll never really get an explanation for it. First, because in many ways it's a waste of breath as it would just stir the pot, but also because if they are 'skirting' around some agreements to get us sideloaded games, for example, they certainly aren't going to call attention to it by commenting on it to the press.

It's along the same lines why exploited games disappear without comment, and then reappear without comment. They aren't going to make a point of telling the world that there are exploits to be found in the first place. Heck, that could even explain some of the random game disappearances -- perhaps in house engineers found an exploit in some game or another that the scene didn't find yet.

That makes perfect sense. I guess we will just never know! Thanks!

All of them? Without side loading? I was unaware of that! Sony!!

It's 1.5ish GB on PSN, and was on sale on EU PSN when 2 was released >_>;
Then again you made you order before the deal went up.

I've already fallen into despair. Believe me, I know what it feels like right now.

It was £20 during that sale, so still a little more expensive. Plus there's also that added benefit of being able to sell a physical copy it the game does nothing for me.

PS Vita minecraft coming in next week's update

All of them? Without side loading? I was unaware of that! Sony!!

Their contract was probably quite clear about authorizing Sony to sell the games on PSP and PS3 since the services launched at the same time. Apparently the language does not include the Vita or PS4 etc, so they'll have to re-negotiate. Possibly a reason PS1 games on PS4 wasn't a high priorty for first year, it's possibly ANOTHER clusterfuck of rights, if at all possible they really need to start writing "and all possible future PS platforms" into contracts for digital download.

Just read the news, came here to see if someone has posted it. Gaf doesn't dissappoint, as always!

CHOO CHOO ALL ABOARD THAT TRAIN

...though, between MC, Senran, and Smash...I may have to hold out on MC so I can get that limited SK physical release. I was just tooling around in the MC PS4 demo last night however...and I was realllllllly getting in to it....shiiiiiiiiiiit wtf to do..!
Quite the opposite. In the days of the printing press it was quite common to see reviewers who barely played the games they were talking about, as deadlines were far worse than they are today.
Well then that goes to show how much I know about the times back then. I never would have thought that was the case, but then again, it does make sense that deadlines and whatnot were more strict due to time to align and print everything. Good call!

So Minecraft Vita launches on the same day as the PSTV huh?

Sounds like a golden opportunity for Sony to sell the PSTV as a $100 Minecraft device.

But of course that would make too much sense so naturally they won't.

I already bought the ps3 version of minecraft so I'll have the vita version, but I'm seriously tempted to buy it on retail so I can do my bit to get in the charts.

I think I need help. I guess I could give it away if a miracle happens and I find someone who has a vita irl or sell it afterwards for a slight loss, but still :(

So I'm playing through Persona 2: Eternal Punishment on my Vita. The game is stuttering like crazy during battle scenes, like why? I tested the other PSX games I have I didn't get the issue. Has anyone else get these problems?

Have you changed the disc load speed?

I had a similar problem last night as well with FF7. I tested Vagrant Story as well which I had played a lot of previously with no problems but it was stuttering during the intro. I think it was because I had a download running; paused the download and the stuttering went away. I've never noticed it before. I'm wondering if the problem came with the latest FW update.

Nothing wrong with helping out the devs :) I bought 2 copies of BL2 for Vita, so I'm there with ya :D As far as MC goes, I know I am buying it physically, to help the numbers. And to get a disc for it, as stupid as it may be because the game will likely be very small in size anyway....but still! I'd love to see the case on my shelf..
Man, that EDF 17 is sweet.
Hooooo boy it sure is. I've never had the joys of multiplayer EDF, I'm sure that's so sweet it'll rot all my teeth at once.

This pretty much sums up the most likely situation, though I'll add it's often really hard to get publishers to give away 'forever' rights. Publishers [in other industries, at least, I don't know specifically about gaming but it would make sense] generally favor specific, limited rights, whereas a platform holder would obviously favor forever rights. It's a bush league power struggle, basically.

In other cases, a company may have licensing agreements in place (say, with the soundtrack, or licensed characters) that prohibit the publisher from allowing 'forever' licenses even if they wanted to.

Additionally, while one would think it would be easy to renegotiate terms later, you end up with different people trying to come to terms, or low sales on a specific game leading to 'why spend resources even thinking about this', or sales/mergers causing different companies to own the rights, international issues, or even companies that no longer exist. And you also have other issues, like the licensing agreement on, say, the soundtrack expiring.

Basically, licensing can be a mess. You'd need a team dedicated to sorting through the mire, and even then you couldn't solve every issue. You'd think the publishers would want their games on a service for additional income, but then you're reliant on the resources of each pub following through. Ultimately, it's easy to see why some games fall through the cracks.

It certainly sucks. I don't think it's really SCEA's fault. I'm sure a bit of blame rests on their head for specific games here and there (nobody's perfect) but I'm guessing in the majority of cases it's out of their hands for one reason or another, even if they'll forever take the brunt of the blame thrown around.

When you consider that SCEJ managed to get every single PSN PSone, PSP and PC Engine game on Vita, it's hard to not blame the western branches.
