Nathan Drake's looking good (Uncharted 4)

Well, to be frank, I'm bitterly, utterly and interminably disappointed he's still not got a hairy chest.

Does he wax or something?

I'm hoping for DLC hirsute hotness.

Not every person grows hair on their chest. And looking closely, yes he does have hair on his chest, just not overly bushy.

So dreamy...

Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuce!

Go Cocks! :)

When you said "dropping fools" I took that at face value, which means killing people. Plenty of violent games like Dishonored and Deus Ex offer non-lethal options though.

But why should all? Why do games HAVE to give you the option, Uncharted is not a stealth game. it's an action game. Killing dozens of enemies isn't a big deal.

For 90% of the first two games Drake's goals are entirely selfish. I am yet to play UC3, but both in the first one and the sequel a) Drake doesn't learn that the treasure possesses supernatural qualities that may render the villain a danger to mankind until well into the story of the game b) the villain would not have gotten close to achieving his goal if it wasn't for Drake's interference.

Hell, I'm not a person who'd criticize video game for their violence for the most part, but I thought that Uncharted games suffered greatly from, well, ludonarrative dissonance due to sheer number of enemies you face throughout them.
We could fix that. Retcon UC1 so that the US is at war with the pirates and drake is member of a special forces unit sent to murder them.

If this kind of shit can make games better, I don't want games to be better.

When I take part in a fun rompy adventure into Shambala to lob 40mm grenades at dudes dressed as power apes, I need it to be cerebral. When the graphics get good and people start talking and shit, its no longer a game, its real.

Drake needs to go on a journey of self discovery for UC4. I want to be able to walk on beaches and throw pebbles into the sea, while emotional music plays in the background and my voiceover says "I've always wanted to sing, even at a very young age. But after grandmother got sick, I had no time for a singing career, I just looked after her. Now she's dead, I have to honor her memory by entering a national talent content. This is for you, Gran".

Haggard Nate looks amazing. UC4 is guaranteed to be a stunning game, now if platforming isn't automatic and puzzles a plenty then it will be the best game in the franchise.

Drake and Sully should pay reparations to the people of Shambala.

Every Pixar or Disney.

That's different. Animal Crossing isn't about killing either. I was replying to someone who wanted a big AAA video game where the primary game play mechanic wasn't violence. That's something that does not, and will not ever exist. Because non-violent games don't sell as well. For these things to exist, there needs to be a market for them. Disney, and in game context Nintendo, have the kids market when it comes to those types of games/movies.

I agree with you but this is just how things work. Protagonist has to defeat antagonist with similar/same methods used by enemy to reach goal. These games that are inspired by Hollywood movies will always be like this.

It isn't a "big" deal, yeah. More options for encounters is always nice though.

More options can be nice, but I don't see an alternate for a jet falling out of the sky and the henchmen are still trying to shoot you. Stealth in a burning plummeting plane? How about negotiating with them between bullet fire to make it out together? Aside from both of those being silly, it goes against uncharted, which is and was always meant to be a big Indiana Jones action game. Everything about it is ridiculous.

I'm not the developer so I can't account for what is and isn't appropriate for the game. I'm just offering my opinion about combat options.

So without even reading beyond the first page, I'm gonna try to sum up this thread. Let me know how I did.

"Wow, that looks great!"
"Yep, sure does."
"There's no way that's real time though."
"ND have said they're no longer using pre-rendered cutscenes."
"It won't look like that, downgrade imminent."

*U3 comparison pics make an appearance*

*The idiocy of posting cutscene comparisons is then highlighted by several members*

"Drake is a murderer and bad comedian."
"It's an action game and is not meant to be taken seriously, hence the humor. Besides, he is generally being attacked or trying to defend someone."
"Yeah, well, ND is so overrated. TLoU sucked."

*Someone new enters the thread*

How did I do?

Edit: I left out the 60 fps shit for good reason. Let's not get on that train.

i don't care about movies. or are you saying 'murica just loves violence? that could be the case too. the best selling japanese games in japan aren't exactly all violent.

yeah but that just means we won't get any other storyline that is as justified as a person trying to survive. we will get the same plot over and over as we do today. that is why i think gaming is so far behind in a lot of things. there's always a bad guy, a threat, you always need to save something or someone, etc. these are the things that dominate and pervade most game storylines.

What would you have them do? When it comes to big budget super expensive games, you can't expect the primary mechanic being a fire fighter or negotiating piece treaties. You mentioned that not all the best selling Japanese games are violent, well neither are all the best selling ones in the west. Just Dance still does great and people love things like candy crush. What you're asking for is a big AAA animal crossing I guess? Well that won't happen because it wont sell enough to justify the price. As far as japanese sales go, they have a much smaller AAA market than the west, but for the games that do have those enormous budgets action games, jrpgs and other like genres occupy the space. All of which are inherently violent.

Pretty good.

Also forgot 60 fps contention.

And it won't be 60 fps. Not looking like that. There is no reason to believe it will be.

Ah, that thread title change... Now I know we're in an Uncharted thread once again.

Anyways, I love this series solely due to how much it reminds me of Indiana Jones and other pulp adventure serials. It's got its lighthearted moments and bits of drama and memorable cast of characters on top of fantastic locations.

Heavy Rain? Portal 2? Mirrors Edge?

Ludo Narrative what now?

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha, woah! No wonder I don't play western developed games.

This post immediately reminded me of an episode of Game Informer's Replay where someone mentioned ludonarrative dissonance and Dan Ryckert immediately got annoyed just by hearing the words. But I think that's how many people feel about it.

He does have a little on there. And he had a little in Uncharted 3 if you looked closely.

I totally looked closely, sigh. :P

Truth is it is that way all around the world , games with violence sell not matter the country .
Be it vs human , animals , monsters etc etc etc .
No country any different for one another .

I feel like i've seen you say this a ton of times.

Also forgot 60 fps contention.

If they were also advertising it as an open world game I wouldn't believe it, but considering that uncharted is quite cinematic and has many scripted moments and more linear level design instead of open levels I believe they can achieve 60fps.

so, how many of the people how want a uc 1-3 remastered already have the games on PS3?

why do you want them again?
bc of you I have to wait longer till uc4..

Heavy Rain? Portal 2? Mirrors Edge?

You got me there, I was am wrong in this case. They do exist but are far from the majority. Unfortunately we had to beg for a mirrors Edge sequel and the next game from the heavy rain guys gave us the adventures gi Joe Ellen Paige and her ghost sidekick. Overall the only one I'd call successful is Portal 2

Why do you think she keeps leaving him in-between games?

I'm not saying he does, I'm merely posing the question

Blame Chloe. She seems like the kind of lady that gets good and rough while handling a cock rocket. Drake can't be expected to accept anything less, it just isn't right.

Hands down my most anticipated game for the ps4. ND continue to blow me away with each iteration of the series and their ability to squeeze out ever drop off power from the hardware is just amazing.

As for murderous Drake, well I use the Indiana Jones defense. He never revels in it, only pulls out the gun when being shot at and never brags about it. We are not talking "No Russian" here.

This is just BS. First, do you really think ND or Sony would let a remaster delay the release of U4? Second, who the hell are you to question or condemn other's desire to play or replay a series? I don't give a shit what you want, if a collection comes out, I'll buy it because I love the series and it would be great to have all of the games on a single console, improvements and all.

So many ups and so so so many downs in this thread. From Wows, to PS4 and XBO are already tapped out power wise, to murder simulators.
