All this parity talk is making me wonder. Was Watchdogs actually meant to be 1080p on PS4...?
Huh? What res is it? 900p? Same for the One?

It had trouble maintaing 30fps at 900p? It very rarely had drops unless there was a shit ton going on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wpVKDg64PoNo, because it had trouble maintaining 30fps at 900p and X1 was 792p with worse effects anyway.
Exactly, what Eden is saying they could have easily hit 1080p with some optimizationIt had trouble maintaing 30fps at 900p? It very rarely had drops unless there was a shit ton going on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wpVKDg64Po
The reason it ran so well was most likely due to being at 900p. The framerate being locked most of the time is more important than the resolution being higher than 900p.Exactly, what Eden is saying they could have easily hit 1080p with some optimization
900p on ps4, 792p on xb1.
Huh. What an odd resolution to be at, on the One.
Why in the world would they focus development around high end PCs? Do you know what fraction of the gaming community would be able to run that?
Try this test.

That fraction of community is still about 3-4 times bigger than whole PS4 install base thoughBut I do understand why they do it, just like I don't understand the attempts to make this whole thing seem like it's more than "I bought this console and I want it served properly"

Insider: The unity is sonys doing. After dx11.3 patch unity was hitting 100fps. Force parity was sony idea. When has ms ever forced parity . They only update to 1080p. The cpu in ps4 is totally different to xbox1 and has less memory bandwidth too. 10gbs extra and a higher clock speed for x1. But time has come e3 2015 is parity no Gameon
With MS throwing more and more money around expect parity to be more of a norm
You all got this wrong
jk, it's just misterx
if thats the case, and i dont think it is, they arent buying ubi games:
"Driven by a very strong performance by March's release of Watch Dogs, over 50 percent of Ubisoft's software revenue came from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 during the past three months. But Ubisoft games on the PS4 sold much better than on Xbox One. Sales on the PS4 made up 36 percent of Ubisoft's revenue, more than double the One's 17 percent. It's interesting to note that PS4 revenue also more than doubled sales on PC, which came in at 14 percent of total sales."
emphasis on last line.
it makes good business sense to focus on the biggest revenue generator and ps4 is it, and thats just going to increase vs pc as each month goes past.
I doubt that will happen. They don't exactly have an infinite amount of money to be freely throwing around to every 3rd party publisher in the world just for "parity" of games for the next 5 or so years (which is ridiculous thinking to begin with). The money that MS has isn't exactly for the Xbox division as a whole like you & the rest seem to be thinking that it is. They're more concerned with making money nowadays, not losing it like with the Original Xbox & Xbox 360.
Microsoft's gonna have to suck it up & deal with it for the next 5 or so years from now, just like how Sony dealt with most inferior multiplat games for 3 generations with PS1, PS2, & PS3.
900p on ps4, 792p on xb1.
Somebody at Sony thought it was. 1080p is listed on the back of the box and was listed in the description of watchdogs in the psn store. All this parity talk is making me wonder. Was Watchdogs actually meant to be 1080p on PS4...?
I have to imagine MS getting inferior ports especially hurts their pride as they enjoyed superior ports since they entered the console space. That's over 10 years of having the best multi-plats on their console. Now it is gone, at least for this generation, and it seems Redmond can't stand that.
no idea, since it was an article about revenue, why care about where it comes from?
if you take the steam installed base that has a good card plus 1080p plus 50gb or more free disc plus windows 7 or better, plus have bought any steam game in the last 3 months, plus run steam regularly and game on it as a *preference* to the console they probably also have, do you get to 30 million? no. Do you get to 10 million? maybe, maybe not.
Where are the steam sales for a multiplatform title like fifa15 or mordor? i bet consoles murder them on a unit and revenue basis.
edit: when i look at this, http://steamcharts.com it does not give me the sense there are 30m good pcs willing to buy games from Ubi, it gives me the sense the pool ready (not playing mobas) to buy a 50 buck title is much smaller than x1 plus ps4.

I have a hard time believing the "high-end PC gamer" community has an install base of 30-40 million.
I think most pc gamers have a mid-end system. Most of the popular games only require a toaster to run it.
It depends what you mean with high end. Remember that current gen consoles are NOT what your average pc gamer would consider high end. More like mid range leaning heavily towards low end.
If you mean, what's the likely install base with around xbone level hardware, looking at the steam hardware survey that's around 20% of the well over 150 million users. That's definitely larger than the ps4 install base. Never mind that steam isn't 100% of the pc market.
Was a very polished title on ps4.Its amazing how Watch Dogs sent from amazing tech to a technical mess.
Dat Ubisoft smoke n mirrors. Truly looking forward to seeing what happens to the Division.

The resolution for Xbone was weird, but Watchdogs was definately NOT a technical mess on either console.

It was on pc
The stuttering for me was unbearable... and even lowering shit significantly wouldn't change anything (on a 780).
Luckily i hated the game to begin with and paid very little for it, so not too hard to trash bin.
Do you have proof that they are paying for parity? Please post a source
And isn't that illegal, anyways?

Add a bunch of cpu intensive AI and you got yourself a 900p PS4 game with an XB1 version that's also 900p but runs like dogshit because Ubisoft doesn't want to have debates.
I played Unity on an Xbox One yesterday at an event here in the Netherlands and I must say it shines another light on the situation. I know it is an older build I played but it ran horribly. I'm talking sub 20 fps in the outside areas with npc's, hovering between 20-30 while inside. only on the rooftops the framerate stablized. So I guess 900p on the ps4 is already the max they can do while providing a somewhat stable framerate.
This is not to talk bad about the Xbox since the white Xbox bundle with Sunset Overdrive is going to be mine because that game played amazing. I really think that 900p is the max they can do atm on the ps4 while providing a stable framerate, 720p might not have been an option for the Xbox because of the marketing deal. I'm really not seeing the Xbox version reaching 900p WITH a stable 30 fps but I guess we'll have to wait DF to be sure.

Uh, I recall seeing a lot of screen tearing in videos.
