Cities/Countries you would like to see games set in

Modern London or Paris always come to mind (part of why I quite liked ZombiU, though I think somebody already said this earlier in the thread), though I also think a non-stereotypical depiction of Australia would be interesting to see worked into a game's setting.

What a beautiful place...

Games that are not set in either the US nor Japan.

It's not that I have something against those 2 countries but there are other nice cities/places out there that I'd like to see in my games.

Sweden - Quantic Dream need to just go ahead and make a quasi Ingmar Bergman story in video game form. They tried to do something film-like with Beyond: Two Souls, go all the way. Have it be in Swedish with subtitles and set in the early 20th century. Show beaches, rural areas, Stockholm, the mountains, the works.
It can't be any worse than Seven Samurai 20XX.

Deus Ex HR had Montreal... TV station.

ACBF also took place in Montreal...in the future parts.

Quebec city and its beautiful walls would make a decent setting for zombie survival. Lots of opportunity there to take its history and toy with it.

I'd love to see more Canadian cities represented, but other than their unique looks there really isn't any reason why you would choose one when American cities are far more accepted and marketable. Not to mention the audience is far more familiar with American groups, agencies, government entities, military concepts, locations etc. For example, nobody would want the Division set in Toronto over New York, and if it were, there would have to be a crash course on Canadian government equivalents to common American things so as to not confuse everyone. That or you intentionally break sovereignty to keep people from being confused.

Can I say a place instead of a city/country?

If yes, then the ISS (International Space Station), I think it could host a great survival horror / Danganronpa-style game, especially if they manage to get the sound right.

If not, then more games with London, I miss Getaway.

Freaking 'stan countries (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan etc.). I want to ride my horse in vast deserts and valleys from one city to another.

Assassin's Creed Revelations, Uncharted 2, Driver 3, From Russia with Love... Istanbul has games about it more than any other city.

I'd say less popular cities, like Stockholm, Prague or Warsaw. Prague, especially. Some kind of 3D Castlevania game sets in Prague would be wonderful. Not by Mercurysteam, of course.

uncharted istanbul was laughs, though. Brown-skinned policemen with ak-47s and police cars from the 60's.

I basically want:

ROCKSTAR GAMES PRESENTS MACBETH in Scotland with amazing huge fields and castles with lots of horseback and empty hills

And a Rockstar game in a present day European city. And a GTA return to Las Vegas.

I see alot of people throwing cities out there because it must look good or something. Question is, would it be great for gameplay? That's the true underlying question. Also, cities are cities. Why this particular one is good for a game?

So since I am complaining I'll try to do what am saying. lol
My choice is Montreal (Canada). And here's why!

First, its an island. Island means water, boats and bridges. Good situations can happen with that.

I think a mix of nature and concrete is a winner for an open world game. So there's Mount Royal right in the middle of Montreal.

Something that's very special (and gamey) about Montreal is that this town is having the most develloped undergrounds in the world! There are TONS of malls and stuff under downtown. Actually, half downtown is underground.

What's also good about a town for a videogame is diversity. To make the next mission different than the last one. Montreal combine the american city style of NewYork and then blends it with Europe's old cities. Some really cool stuff could happen in "Old Montreal".

Also, winter!! No enough winter stuff in action games like GTA. That beginning of GTA5 in the snow. I want more of that.

And what would be a videogame without cool landmarks? I mean, who doesn't want to bungee from that or something.

Other cool stuff about Montreal is that its a party city! From Mai to August there are tons of festivals going on, recognised all over the world.

GTA Montreal. Can't wait.

Nowhere specific, just more variety.

I would like to see a lot more Canadian characters in fighting games though. I'm not sure why there's such a lack of them.

Eastern/Central Europe. The Balkans, Poland, Hungary, Romania, etc. Rich cultures, beautiful sights, fascinating histories.

Was with you until this bit. First, GTA sucks, so no thanks, and two, there's not nearly enough crime* in Montreal for that to work. ;)

* Gangster-like crime, anyway... plenty of "enveloppes brunes" kind of crime I guess :P

Whatever the game man, I just think its a nice city for gaming situations.

Man, so many places to visit...

I think going to Prague is a must-do before I die.

That said, I'd like a game set in Patagonian places.

Fuck, is that from a movie? or new york was/is like that ?

If anyone ever tells you New York is shitty now, ask them to look up New York in the 70s. There's a reason movies like Death Wish and The Warriors were products of their time when it comes to New York. It's a LOT better than how it used to be.

Seatle via Shadowrun

Vancouver via Mass Effect 4

Any small highway town for an open world GTA esque game.... specifically something with big mountain forests from BC Canada or deserts from California, Nevada, New Mexico... something where the main game is set in a big city but you got hours of countryside for smuggling or drug/gang missions. Something like Vancouver related to all the gang violence 6 or so years back and maybe it goes all the way up to Lilooet or east out to Hope, and then down also with smuggling down to Portland. Either that or something like... Mountain Pass, California and the rare earth mine there... maybe GTA going back to Las Venturas (Vegas) and including locations like Mountain Pass, the Mojave and Death Valley parks, and down through to the border past Phoenix. As long as there's lots of desert highways and little gas station towns with bars to do missions from, that's good.

Near Shanghai again or anywhere else in China via Deus Ex Universe. Actually, China for any futuristic setting. It didn't really matter seeing as the locations are visually generic but I always liked how XCOM has stages set in Chongqing... China has always been my favorite location in both DX1 and DXHR, too. That said, I hope Deus Ex returns to Detroit. In pre-recession context, I thought DXHR's Detroit did an awesome job rivaling the slums of Hell's Kitchen in DX1.

In these threads I always say the same thing: GTA Napoli.

Drive a Vespa or a FIAT 500, have a pizza in a fancy restaurant, deal with the mafia, push stuff by night, explore Vesuvio top, shoot a Calzone mask just because. It comes with a 70s setting and a soundtrack you will love.

It would be so cool, you bastards would love it.

Well, that god awful Medal of Honor game had a driving level in Dubai. So there's that. :P

I'd like to see more Asian cities which is why I'm so excited for, the hopefully happening, Sleeping Dogs 2.

Lol yeah but I hope there is some more than that. A spy/espionage game in Dubai could really work.

I don't think it's happening :( didn't they say they were doing an online PC game set in the Sleeping Dog universe instead?

Deus Ex HR had Montreal... TV station.

It was supposed to be a full hub, and was cut, which was very sad. I am hoping in the Deus Ex sequel that Eidos is able to feature a full-fledged Montreal somehow.

We need more Canada in games (The Stick of Truth was great in a joking way haha, loved their old school approach to tie in with our portrayal in the show). Call of Duty 3's Canadian campaign was also freaking cool.

Lol yeah but I hope there is some more than that. A spy/espionage game in Dubai could really work.

Most people figure there's a real sequel on the way, it's just gonna take more time and after Triad Wars launches.
