Nintendo Downloads - October 2014

Wow! (pleasantly) Surprised to see DKC!

20th Anniversary this year. I am so excited!

I wonder if the cross-buy promo for Squids still applies with the sale. Because that would mean I'm finally buying it!

Can I be the first person who bitches about themes?

Where's the Animal Crossing themes Nintendo? We already have a bunch of Mario ones. What a waste of a week.

:)

Please let's not start with theme bitching. The download thread has enough inherent weekly scheduled bitching. lol

What's more, Nintendo already said they'd be out at the end of the month. So in 2 weeks, probably.

yet another sale on trine 2, there can't surely be anyone that doesn't own it by now, I had thought for Some reason lone survivor was gonna be 6.99 might wait for a sale, will finally pick dreamworld dig, anyone know if gravity badgers is any good?

Oh damn, nice to hear about all the GB & SNES DK games finally hitting....though Club Nintendo already gave me DKCR 3D.

Speaking of Club Nintendo, there'll be new games up in about 5-6 hours.

Edit: HEY, anyone who gets the DKC games. Let us know if they removed some of the Rare references, like the Killer Instinct stuff in 2 & 3.

Edit 2: So do we know if DKC is the SNES version or the GBA version?

Doing simple/smaller games in between bigger projects to help support them.

Snap.

Though I do plan to have a few twists on the Breakout formula, they shouldn't make this project take too long. It's fun making something big and meaty, but if you're not releasing for a while, the money situation sucks.

Day 1 for me, love breakout style games

The Donkey Kong Country games are coming to Wii U?
Megaton.

Side note, but, there's no reason for anyone to get Donkey Kong Land 2 and 3.
Donkey Kong Land 1 was its own game, and while not great, at least unique and worth getting.
Donkey Kong Land 2 and 3, though, are just mediocre ports of Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3. There's literally no reason to get them when the far-superior GBA ports exist.

20th Anniversary this year.

Darn does that make me feel old.
I still remember getting the VHS Promo tape from Nintendo Power

Love how this looks. Looks very fun.
Day 1.

I wonder if the 25% discount if you own Steamworld Dig on 3DS also applies to the Wii U sale price? If so, I might get the Wii U version too as I loved the 3DS game.

Ooo. I love breakout games. That looks nice.

Ironically I have an idea for a breakout game of my own. Though more of a puzzle nature to it. Who knows if I'll even start it.

Dan Owsen's awesome.
I miss his Ask Dan section on Nintendo's AOL area and later on their internet page.

Crazy to think that Dan is STILL there! (credited in Lego City Undercover and someone shouted "shut up Owsen!" during the Treehouse Live @ Treehouse stream)

Indeed. And, considering the types of stuff he's been involved in, it's always shocked me that he hasn't gotten more recognition and attention than he has.

Trine has been cheaper i remember picking it up for around 6,50/7 cant seem to remember but around that ball park. So maybe people waiting for it to hit the €5 because it has been cheaper on steam during sales.

Lone Survivor is great, strong focus on psychological horror that makes it sort of like 2D Silent Hill. Not especially hard, but you can screw up a few times on your first playthrough. Fun to replay too, though whether you can enjoy replaying horror games depends on your preference. There's different endings and all, but of course the bulk of the game is largely the same. Main difference would be fighting vs stealth (it's possible to not kill anything), and some slightly more convoluted quests for the special endings.

In Europe at least

fuck. This is one of the few things I'd pay that $1.50 upgrade fee for. Hoping europe's just getting it first or something. These are a huge omission in the first party SNES library on Wii U.

Donkey Kong Country on Wii U and Rosalina theme on the 3DS, life is gooooooood.

Funfact: Donkey Kong Country was the second game I played and the game that made me want to own a SNES.

I never got a SNES because I was too ducking stupid to remember what the system was called. ¬_¬;

We got an SNES with DKC and Yoshi's Island, first games "I" ever owned. So good.

Has getting a Wii U dev kit been profitable for you?

hm, so your strongest sales (downloads) were on the first 2 months. Interesting

Yeah. Front loaded with launch and big increase due to 1st sale. Cause of "what is this game" effect of bad marketing (name, art, etc) it does nearly nothing while not on sale. Demo might help fix that. 2nd sale is also about 1/2 of what 1st sale was like during 1st 4 days, but that is likely cause lack of Nintendo PR meant a lot of less coverage. People do love sales though.

I have plan for a 2 week sale during Thanksgiving and 2 or 3 week sale during Christmas and New Years. No idea pricing for Christmas one, but am tempted to see what a $0.49 sale would do, numbers wise, as sales wise it wouldn't really do that much ($0.49 would require 3 times the downloads that a $0.99 currently does just to be the same revenue amount)

Has getting a Wii U dev kit been profitable for you?
Not yet, by end of Nov it most likely will be. If I had chosen a different name and didn't do the infamous July 3rd date, it might have been profitable a long while ago. Oh well, learned from my mistakes! :)

DKC released??? Sweet!

I hope that means DKC 2 and 3 soon. Haven't played 2 or 3 to completion.

You're in for a treat if all 3 hit (if one hits I'm sure all will), 2 and 3 are my favorites. I'd say 2, 3, 1, mostly because 2 has the best environments and dixie/diddy are my fav mix of controls. 3 has a cool world map and isn't bad, but overall just feels not quite as good as 2. DKC1 is a classic but has rough edges that are mostly ironed out by 2, lots of blind jumps, "how was I supposed to know that" bonus areas, and overall falls a bit short.

2 is next week, 3 is the week after.

I'm gonna run broke with the number of Gift Cards I'll end up buying if a lot of SNES and GC(hopefully) classics are re-released on VC.

What I remember from 2 was parts of Gangplank Galleon. That's all I do remember.
Watching the Grumps attempt a run at DKC2 and the ramped up difficulty half way through has me intrigued.

I've never touched 3, but I remember on the boxart was Dixie and some other Kong I didn't look interested in.

Yeah, Kiddie Kong kinda sucks, he plays basically like Donkey, but on the plus side you still get Dixie, the best Kong.

I don't think anyone will mind if I reveal this little tidbit about DKC3's GBA development now...

During the development stages, one of the programmers had made it so that whenever Kiddie died, an audience would be heard clapping and cheering. I thought this should have stayed in, but sadly those in charge disagreed.

(Suffice to say, Kiddie Kong is shit)

Hah, that's great. Never met anyone who liked Kiddie. I guess that's kinda the point though, he's the annoying kid Dixie has to put up with.
