Fighting Games Weekly | Oct 13-19 | The World Ends Ryu

It's coming out in the same year as MKX.
It won't have as many characters and MKX will have variations of each character.
MKX story won't be freeze frame panels.
There will definitely be more Single Player junk in MKX
MKX will probably have the frame data in game
MKX will have the more widely acceptable art direction (zzz dark and gritty realism zzz)
Gameplay won't even be a factor since these big media sites who do GOTY are super casual players who don't care about the mechanics

(MKX will have a longer running tourney scene than Xrd anyway IMO since there's less games for the NRS community to get split or migrate)

One thing is certain: Xrd will have better netplay

I played some r plus last night. You know, I really like the game, but getting info for it is a damn nightmare. Its like all the old versions info creep through the new shit. Try to learn a combo. Doesn't work and hours later I find out they removed it for r plus. Fuck that.

Who were you trying to learn?

Killer instinct season 2 is being developed by another company since the original got bought out by amazon right?

Iron Galaxy (Divekick)

Abyss Mode is great in BBCP. I hear P4AU has its own variation of Abyss Mode. Anything with RPG leveling is great really.

But we're really calling MK realism? Come on. Virtua Fighter is more realistic than MK. Don't be an idiot.

I hope it wasn't baiken lol

Yup. It's been my biggest barrier for getting into the series for years. Luckily, I know some people that were pretty damned good at the series over the years to help me out.

Since I started playing SC competitively, I've seen so many people talk about SCII, but they never around to actually play it. Either they rather play a newer game and or don't want to play against people who've still played for the past 10+ years and get worked.

Plus I haven't seen much interest in SC2HD since it came out outside of the handful of people in SoCal. I'm hoping that we can have a side tournament for it at NEC coming up for anyone who is interested. If not, there will be people around who are up for casuals.

SCI and even SCIII were popular, and SCIII was in spite of being Kuso

SCIV also sold pretty well. It wasn't until SCV that the series stuggled to sell at full price.

SC4 sold 2.5+ mil, SCV sold 1.7+ mil. That doesn't look like a struggle to me, especially with the amount of competition in the marketplace at that time during 2012.

SC is pretty popular, always has been but the games have been steadily getting changed for the worse since SCII. That's affected its standing in the community.

Ultimately whatever problems the series has since SCII stem from the fact that there's no longer an arcade release for the game, and updates not making their way back to the console version. Other than that it's a matter of preference.

I see on Dustloop that Final Round is going to run Xrd on PS3. So most events are going with the PS3 version?

I would assume so since every other anime game is ran on PS3, plus there's not an abundance of PS4s or PS4 sticks in the community. And until there are more fighting games to run off of PS4s, there's not much reason for organizers to switch either.

I think it's handled even better than BB. The stats carry over between attempts and difficulty levels, you get special skills and stat bonuses on leveling up. Otherwise it functions almost exactly like Abyss Mode.

Thought the SCV figures were much lower (thought it was 1mil). Still 1.7mil would be enough to justify a SCVI if done right, especially given the positive reaction to the game in some area and easy fixes to the complaints (bring characters back)

TOs are going to wait as long as possible before they have to stock ps4s, or require people to have ps4-compatible peripherals.

Xrd will likely be ps3-only at tournaments, unless it's found the ps3 version has frame drops or other inconsistencies in performance compared to the ps4 version.

I don't play SC2HD because the online is awful, and no one in my area is trying to get back into a decade old, dead, 3D fighter.

Trust me, had online worked, I'd be playing SC2 all the time. It was my first competitive game, and I was crestfallen by the trashy net play.

GG Xrd PS+ JP demo almost up.

There's a 14 day free trial on PSN right now, but I'm not sure if you have to enter credit card information. I'll find out in 2 hours.
Is this on PS4 as well? And do I have to make a Japanese account if so?

The demo is only for PS4 and you need a Japanese PSN account to download it.

Here's a quick guide I used to make the account. Some of the pictures might be out of order.

It wasn't that bad when I played it online. The online wasn't KOF awful, but the lack of online features like lobbies killed my interest in playing it more.

Also NEC XV trailer since I'm here.

I found it it pretty much unplayable at launch. It's not like I play X either, I play Cervy. No way I'm getting relaunches or even BT JFs in that environment.

I still have it on my PS3 HD maybe I'll give it a shot again later tonight too see if it's any better. Does the game actually have an online community?

I made the mistake of watching a +R Venom tutorial and playing AC+ until a friend told me that there's an option to switch to the latest version of the game in the options menu. Now the only problem I have is trying find someone at my skill level to play with online but the online is so dead and terrible that I've given up trying to find quality matches. I still put a ton of hours into training mode though.

Everything I've seen of her in +R so far makes her seem monstrously good. I'm curious to hear why you think she was better in AC/AC+.

her counters were better in ac+. They nerfed those and and she had way easier combos in ac+ compared to +r. She's way harder to use in +r

Her counters might have lost some invincibility, but they start up faster now, which is a pretty good buff to what they can punish and what won't bait them. She's definitely harder to combo with now though. I haven't seen a single North American player landing her midscreen FRC kire tatami BNB.

Why on Earth NOT run it on PS3?

The systems are already purchased, and stick players have their sticks.

I'll take not buying another stick and a subscription to PS+ any day, over 1080.

1080 looks damned good to me, but if it all plays the same, all things considered... 720 looks better.

EDIT:

This is coming from someone who already has a PS4.

From what I heard from some people at TGS not knowing they were playing the ps3 version of the game it should be fine. That said... after seeing the ps4 version on a nice big HD tv at EVO.... That shit was indescribable

I'm gonna need you to elaborate on this because basically what you've said is two titties are great, but all things considered, one titty is better. This is just factually untrue.

How is that a shit post? This is a shit post.

If you don't own a PS4, it costs around $700 for the game if you play fighters on stick and want online access. Around 500 if you're on pad.

Compare that with paying $60 dollars if you already own a PS3. Difference ain't THAT great.

Did I quote his entire post?

Well it's easier to tell on a bigger screen as well, I dont think they had very big ones. Let alone I don't think they had both versions there to draw comparisons from. That said it's good news either way.

Hah, it was a joke. Everyone should be used to seeing games in 720p by now that they would be able to tell the difference when something is running at higher resolution. Then again it always depends on whats actually being show on screen.

But since the quality of the console port performance seems fine then all that's left is to see how the net code will stand up to north american internet.

FGW | 1080 is damned good but 720 is better
FGW | All those pixels getting in the way

FGW | Above average pixel counting

hehe, I got what Laconic was getting at. 1080 is better, but adding all the costs up at this moment in time, 720 is fine. I think, haha.

But we are going to have move on at some point anyways, especially for MKX. Might as well get the PS4s now, so Xrd can look awesome and be ready for MKX.

People would have to get new sticks and all that, but, well. I guess that's how things work. I bet madcatz and Hori will be happy ;)
