Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

Evga acx 2.0 980 just came in stock on newegg

I do believe this is the card I was offered, and selected, in the Step Up program with EVGA.

Maybe I'll finally get assigned a QUEUE # ?!

Has said PENDING for everyone I've talked to since they put in for a Step Up.

I've read that Purolator is pretty bad at updating tracking information. And it sure lookslike it. My tracking showed Left LA 7th - Arrived at Vancouver 9th - Left Vancouver 9th all showed up at the same time a few hours after it left Vancouver.
Well, it might actually come today then. Typically Purolator can go days without scanning a package and then it either shows up, or lists a final scan 'On truck for delivery'. Canadapost is a hell of a lot better for accurate tracking.. although they may be slow some times as well. I'm going to go crazy if I don't get this card soon. It sucks when you have a couple of days off of work, and just know the card is going to come when I go back to a block of 3 12hrs shifts starting Friday. :/

Just ordered an EVGA GTX 970 SSC from Newegg, should be here by Friday. I'm upgrading from a GTX 580 so the difference should be pretty big, I'm getting excited!

You can't go wrong with any of these.

See above post, whatever comes in stock first.

I read MSI's are quieter and cooler. Mine certainly is.

well luckily, the MSI one was available so I ordered it. I just hope it doesn't suffer from coil whine and is as cool and quiet as many people claim

Bit of advice here, but how are you guys OCing your 970s? Using MSI afterburner?
Ive not done it before, so does anyone have any advice on A) what program to use, and B) whats an acceptable OC if youre just using the stock Gigabyte G1 cooler?

Ever since i updated from the 780 to the 970, i get some video/audio syncing problems, when using my TV through HDMI (no problems on the DVI monitor + speakers).
It's not even consistent, sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't, but for example in Shadow of Mordor it would be fine on gameplay, but often out of sync (video first, audio delayed) in the FMVs.
Same with some video files some connect fine, some don't, some do after some time.
I can't understand what's causing it, i assume it has to do with the hdmi.

Anyone else experiencing this? What could it be?

MSI afterburner is probably the best program for this. Open it up and you'll see some sliders. Don't change the actual card voltage and you can pretty much do whatever. Slide up the power delivery and start increasing core clock in increments of say 50 and then running some benchmarks. As long as you don't see any artifacts or crashes then it's a good overclock. Keep increasing core until you see problems then back it down. Repeat for memory.

Save you overclock to a profile and then you can set it to open and overclock on windows startup or you can manually engage that profile if you so choose.

Ugh, Newegg...

So the MSI GTX 980 shows up last night, and I got the alert from nowinstock, and ordered it right away. Thought everything was going great, and 10 minutes later, I get the fraud alert email from my CC company. Which was fine... I was almost expecting it. Usually confirming the charge works, but I because how Newegg's system works, you have to cancel and reorder in the event that happens.

And by the time I got the chance to reorder, it went out of stock. -_-

I don't think I'll ever get a 980 at this rate... at least not until they're readily in stock everywhere.

Brilliant, thanks

This happened to me, I just got on their text chat (it's 24/7) and asked them to resubmit it, they did and the order went through fine. Didn't have to cancel/reorder.

Granted the item I was ordering wasn't out of stock at the time I did this so I am not sure if it would have worked.

Bye Team Red!

Hello Team Green! It's been a while (last time I owned NVIDIA was 8800GT)

Yep, it's huge and everything...

but fits in the Antec P183 like a charm:

Sooooo happy with this card. Ready for AC:U, DA:I & Witcher 3. BRING IT! \o/

YESSSS... my 970 is only 700km away by road now in Corner Brook! Totally getting it tomorrow. Hurricane Gonzalo better not fuck up our power grid this weekend.

any issues with SLIing a asus 970 with a gigabyte?

I have a gigabyte 970 and been waiting for a second, but they only got the asus one in stock today

Frys, MicroCenter, and Tigerdirect at the store level have been getting stock in almost daily in the Chicago area. YMMV

Can't speak for the 970 myself, but my MSI 980 is OC'd to ~1400/1524Mhz normal/boost clock and 7800Mhz for the ram and the highest temp I have seen is 72c (and that was the opening mission of Crysis 3 played 3 times over at max settings).

Now I do have a fan at the bottom of my case pulling air in and to the GPU but still. The only person I know who has a MSI 970 says their card stays in the mid 60c range when under max load.

Just stopping by to check and see if there have been any updates or leaks regarding the rumor of 8GB variants of these cards. I play at 1080P on an HDTV with a 4GB GTX 680 so although these cards might be a pretty decent upgrade I have no problem turning down stuff like shadows and AO on the more demanding games my 680 doesn't chew up.

The upgrade itch keeps popping up from time to time though and Shadow Of Mordor's 6GB VRAM requirement was the Neosporin that caused me to chill and not pull the trigger when I saw the 970 available at Newegg. Even though I know I won't need that much VRAM most likely it would feel like more of an upgrade to me if not only the computational performance of the new card was greater but also the VRAM. I've already run into VRAM issues with modded Skyrim on my 4GB card. So if I'm going to spend the money I want to upgrade in all aspects of the card or I'll just wait until the next architecture and hope for a card that can do 4K 60fps on current gen demanding games to go along with a future 4K TV purchase.

Evil Within can't use SLI so I went back to single card - have to give the other one to my brother soon anyways.

Decided to try pushing the OC on the second card to see if it was better than my first - and it sure is. First card maxed out at 1400/1475 boost, this one took another +80 over that and is fine. Haven't actually managed to crash it yet so can maybe even go further. Guess I'm keeping this one~

Temps are ridiculously good. Sits at 55-56 tops, fans don't go over 70%. I do have pretty good case airflow but even in SLI my cards weren't going over 65.

Which model do you have?

Which model do you have?

thought I mentioned it in the post but I forgot, it's the Asus Strix 970. I adjust the fan profile significantly because normally they don't turn on until 60 degrees, but still. I've owned cards that idle hotter than this thing gets when it's playing Crysis 3.

anyone have the dimensions of the Asus 2.0 Strix? also is the regular 970 Zotac a three slot card, or just the higher end Zotac ones?

EDIT
meh, bought the low end Zotac 970. am i already dead?

I ordered 2 of the them on lauch from amazon, none has this problem.

Forgive my insistence, I don't mean to question you, but I'm just interested if you mean if you can't hear it under normal operation or they absolutely do not make the noise at all even if you put them under load and put your ear up to the case or with the side panel off or something?
