They finally made a decent Android tablet with a sane and logical aspect ratio for a tablet! Took WAY too long.

Very expensive though, might as well get an iPad for the apps.

Even if the physical size of the phone is similar, a larger screen phone will still be more difficult to use, since you'll have to reach further anyway. There's no way to magically make a phone screen smaller than it really is.

are we seriously still having reach conversations with 6" phones?

Lets stop the absurdity

So will the Nexus 5 get a price drop, new model, or are they going to axe it completely?

I'm interested in this too. As far as I can tell they're just going to continue selling it as is.

I'm a tad surprised at the strong negative reaction to the price, considering the galaxy nexus cost the same.

That's because no one is comparing the Nexus 6 to the three year old Galaxy Nexus. Both the Nexus 4 and 5 were characterized by being reasonably high end phones that were sold off-contract for mid-tier phone prices. Now all of a sudden the price has gone back up to higher end phone standards. It's pretty obvious why many people aren't particularly happy about this.

With the Nexus 9 looks and specifics plus the benefits of Lollipop i can finally see the iPad having very serious competition.

Nexus 6 is just stupid.

I guess, I am just saying this kind of pricing for nexus devices isn't completely unheard of.

It's a major factor, yes. Unless it's a phone I plan on keeping for 2+ years. The N4 was the longest I've kept an android phone because I didn't think the N5 was worth the upgrade as the battery life was only marginally better. During that time I've owned a iPhone 5, and 5S both of which sold for a profit. I don't think the N6 is worth it's weight in value when compared to phones we'll be getting in 6 months. @$400-450? Yes, but @ $650 nope. The jump next year to 20nm SoCs and more efficient screen tech should bring way better battery life, which is the most important thing to me when shopping for an android smartphone today. So $650 now for a phone that will probably have average to good battery life, or $650 5-6 months from now for a phone that will have great to excellent battery life with other upgraded hardware components that will easily last me 2+ years. I already had $450 put aside for the N6, but I'll just sell the N4, add $50, grab a G2 and wait for something better. But, that's just me. Everyone should do what works for them.

This person knows how to play the game. Well done.

This will be discounted significantly if I buy through Sprint with a new 2-year contract right?

I'm debating between this and the inevitable htc One M9. My contract is up in January though so I don't know if I'm going to be willing to wait for the M9.

The unsubsidized price doesn't bug ME a ton, since I was gonna switch to T-Mobile anyways. But man, that's crazy high for those that are going that route.

EDIT: I'm an idiot that didn't realize T-Mobile doesn't subsidize - Thanks Vyse The Legend, I would have been in for a shock when I started my contract!

T-Mobile does not subsidize phones anymore, FYI.

So, you'll be paying the full price, just dolled out and added to your monthly bill for 2 years (about $27 a month extra).

So who's buying either of these jewels?
I'm all in for the WiFi 32GB Nexus 9. Hopefully Sand - with the Folio Keyboard case, of course.

6" QHD screen seems pretty premium. Disappointing that they didn't get a 64-bit processor in the Nexus 6, though.

You can get a US version Oppo Find 7 (QHD screen) for 600, with an student email, you can get it for 550. I am sure you can get a Optimus G3 for around the same price.

Google was way late with this Nexus 9 unfortunately, I have a Surface Pro 2 now and I'm happy with it. I'm very intrigued by the Tegra K1 in the N9, for people who don't know this is the first device which uses Nvidia's new Project Denver 64-bit processor. It's not ARM, it's something entirely new though it natively behaves like an ARM core.

The Nexus 6 is the first Nexus with flagship-class hardware in it. It can go toe to toe with the Samsung, HTC, Sony, etc. flagships and trade solid blows with all of those devices. Unfortunately it still lacks the SD card slot, I know Google hates external storage but they were so close to reeling me in. I guess it's still going to be Note 4 for me.

Any chance they'll have some kind of early bird special again? It was really nice getting that $25 credit with my Nexus 7, definitely wouldn't mind another one of those.

Let's wait for the benchmarks before jumping to such conclusions. It sure is priced to go toe to toe with the other falgships. However, if it turns out that it lacks in the camera and battery life departments as its predecessors are notorious for, then some people are gonna have a hard time justifying the $650 price tag. Especially considering the bang for buck we got with the N4 and N5. I'm waiting for the anandtech review as I expect the battery life to at least be on par with the No4[Pre Loli]. If's it's not and the camera also lacks, then yeah, if I must get one I'll wait till early next year when i can grab one for ~$400. As of right now, it's a $650 Motorola device on the dying end of the 28nm fab, with a 2k display in its infancy and a not-so-good resale value track record.

If that screens had been a 5.3in 1080p display, this phone would have cost less and benefit from even better battery life. As it stands, the Xperia Z3 is more interesting to me now.

Nexus 6, if it was 5 inchs I would have ordered it on the second it went up for pre order, at 6 inchs...

Just way too big for an everyday phone.
Will wait and test it out before I even think about it.

Wish who ever decided for it to be 6 inches ( or for not at least having an option for 5 inches) stubs his or her toe, stupid decision.

it'll be a great size when the software catches up imo, everything is so much better on a screen that size

Nexus 6 sounds incredibly disappointing. Was planning on keeping my N5 at least another year anyway, but 6" is way too big (I don't want anything bigger than my N5) and they doubled the price. The off contract price was a big reason I went for the N5. I'm assuming the following Nexus phone is not going to be one I'll consider.

I need a new tablet because my 2012 Nexus 7 has been on its last legs for the past six months or so. It's literally lying down with its head on a block waiting for a sword to cut it off.

But I can't spend $400 on a tablet right now and 4:3 is just disgusting to me as a format. Sure it's good for some apps, but since like 90% of Android apps were made for 16:9 type resolutions and 4:3 is arguably worse at reading eBooks and comics I guess I'll wait this out until next Nexus cycle, or at least until a new Nexus 7 comes out, and hope my tablet can hold up for another year or two.

Well, the price is more in line with other flagship phablet out there so I don't see a problem. I will continue using my Nexus 5 but might upgrade my wife's phone to Nexus 6.
