iOS Gaming October 2014: We didn't even know this was releasing on iOS

currently been playing that game of thrones game, not amazing like terra battle, but I like it

Played that on Facebook when it first game out when the show was on. I get into it when the show is on then lose interest between seasons. It's definitely pretty cool if you like F2P trappings.

They did switch, we did complain, they switched back.

All is well.

I can only do one game of theirs a year though.

They put out a few F2P games. They went back to $5 a game.
Kairosoft knows what their fans want.

I'm well aware. Which is why I said "permanently."

Just got a $50 iTunes gift card...so uh...what's everyone's favorite game? =P

KOTOR if you haven't played it.

80 Days and Monument Valley are my favorite IOS games of 2014 so far

Inferno 2 is one of the best dual sticks on the platfomer IMO

Dokuro, VVVVV, Incoboto, and Penumbear are all awesome platformers

Ninjin, Boson X, super ccatch, Beat Drift, Spooklands are excellent arcade games

Hoplite, 868 Hack, and Wayward Souls are my favorite roguelikes

Best puzzlers if I had to list them, would include Perfect Paths, Blast A Way, Icebreaker, and Blek

In addition to what Badass said above, just started Banner Saga and it is AWESOME. Easily my GOTY so far and there's been a lot of great games.

Also, Battleheart: Legacy is one of my favorites of the year. Skulldrugery is also fantastic.

Helix is really, really good. Not as deep as 868-HACK, as it's a different type of game entirely, but it's fresh and frantic arcade action. Very good stuff.

The only bum note is that I found it near unplayable on my iPhone 5S. The screen is too small and my thumb kept slipping off screen. iPad seems to be the way to go as it plays much better there. Michael Brough has said that iPad is the optimal solution, and that the enemies on the iPhone version have been slowed down to compensate for the lack of real estate.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is on sale on Steam and I thing I might finally bite, but then... I'm not sure if I should buy it on iOS instead :P I'd probably enjoy it more on the go! Is the iOS version just as good as the PC version?

Personally I'd say go with the PC version, because the visuals are better and you can get the Enemy Within expansion if you enjoy the main game. And I feel it's just a lot easier to play with mouse & keyboard

With Deep Dungeons of Doom getting rebalanced and made premium, I thought I'd pick it back up again. I don't think I'm very far, but I'm not sure how long the game is anyway. This should be added to the Hidden Gems thread because it's really fun, and should get more attention since it now has a price tag, and fewer people might pick it up sight unseen.

Music to my ears... the game was tons of fun but with too much reliance in IAP so I deleted it. Now its the time so start again :D

yeah I liked it at first but today I noticed everything is starting to take hours to happen and thats when I loose interest, its funny, its at that point they want you to spend money but it has the opposite effect on me. What I would give for a proper game like that for Game of Thrones, doesnt need the social aspect either to make me happy.

Huh, looks like already had this. I vaguely remember not liking it for some reason when I first played it, I don't the gameplay was what I had expected

But coming back to it now, I'm really enjoying DDoD. Great pixel style and animations, and the focus on timing your attacks and defending gives off some Dark Souls vibes

Does anyone know if iPhone 6 and 6 Plus support will be coming to KOTOR?
It doesnt correctly fit the screen at the moment, but playing it on the 6 Plus should be fantastic if they update it.

Oh shit, just noticed it has updated!

Ignore me!

In love with the dystopian/horror aspect of Silent Age all over again. About to dive into Episode 2 now. Everyone owes it to themselves to play at least the first episode, it's free!

game of thrones gone, it started to force me to do multiplayer parts, and that was the last straw, HBO please take the rpg idea of that game and make proper GOT Strategy RPG game.

You can grab XEU on Steam for free today, don't remember the publication (maybe PCGamer's website) but either way you can just google it :)

Of course no expansion but that ain't out on iOS anyway

My thoughts on Castaway Paradise.

If Nintendo ever went to the Dark Side and turned Animal Crossing into a F2P model, it would look a lot like Castaway Paradise.

That is both praise for the overall excellent execution, as well as frustration over the ways F2P has undermined the core of the game.

Everything is on timers. Some of that is normal to the genre. But the insidious timers are on the refill rate of your watering can and pickaxe. They can be upgraded, of course, but the upgrades are progressively more and more expensive, and the vegetables you need to grow to pay for those upgrades require a shit-ton more water.

So, like most F2P, you either get busy waiting or get busy paying.

VIP access is a good idea poorly executed:

- It is tied to your save, so if you ever start over you get to pay again.
- While ads go away permanently, and you keep your house, you have to pay monthly to not be hobbled.

I also admit to feeling a little hustled because the video ads didn't start until after the prompt to leave the review. The video ads are way too frequent and cannot ever be skipped, which is a problem because they are long!

But overall, it's a really good game. I would bite on a month of VIP if it were restorable and not tied to one specific instance.

For anyone using iTunes, I highly recommend updating to version 12 that just came out. It's much much faster than 11 on both Windows and Yosemite (it's crazy the Windows version is actually snappy!).

Yep.
Only problem I have is the missing cloud features :(
Also the UI is quite idiotic. Either way I'm eagerly awaiting the new level pack!
Yeah, I'm playing on the iPad but this would definitely be a great one to play some stages on the go (pun intended). I was disappointed that it doesn't have cloud saving, it's a no-brainer.

Also, I'll have to rip the music from youtube or something, really digging those ambient tunes.

iOS Gaming November 2014: it gives off Dark Souls vibes

:P

Not a knock at your post btw, I've had DDoD on my phone since it came out. Great game!

So if I picked up DDOD before do I now own the premium version for free? It looks that way.

I had it before when it was free and had to pay to download it a few days ago. DDD is awesome. Loving it to pieces now that is premium and no longer have IAP to buy continues for example (never bought but are annoying) or stuff like that. Pay once, play forever without worries. Love this move. Wish all companies does this too.

Does anyone know how Corpse Party runs on the iPhone 6? Though people are recommending it on the Vita, the iPhone version would be more convenient for me but I don't want to spend over $20 if it doesn't run well or crashes.

I can still download it, but the title screen says it's a version that shouldn't be distributed. Strange. Still seems to work and I don't see any FTP trappings.

I actually don't mind when mobile developers make a game free to try, with an IAP to unlock the full game. Not universally across the board, but if it's done well, I think it's a great way to give players an idea of what the game has to offer before buying it. It's like before IAPs, where developers often had demo/light versions of their games, but now it's easier for them to keep your save state, and you don't have to go back to the AppStore to get another file. Glyph Quest is one example that comes to mind when I think of a perfect implementation of this.

The way the DDoD developers went is also a refreshing method where no one feels cheated/punished for buying early. If you already bought it, you still have the same game, but with the added benefit of no other IAPs.

I see the same message. Maybe there is an incoming update to fix this and to balance it a bit and add widescreen support.

Its like try before you buy, I like that method, but its not really successful. Sadly. From what I heard from developers and the media, players often get bored or loose attention before feeling the need to pay to play any further and that's why we dont see as many as before. Now its most free to play with ads and a way to remove them with IAP. Which is not bad either and keep some of the benefits you mentioned.

The way the DDoD developers went is also a refreshing method where no one feels cheated/punished for buying early. If you already bought it, you still have the same game, but with the added benefit of no other IAPs.

I had it while it was free and had to pay 5$ but I didnt feel cheated (I think I removed it from iTunes altogether in frustration due to how good it was, why on earth does it have to be so much pay-to-win). Pay once, play forever. Its like they give previous owners all the things at once. I like this.

Crosses fingers for more developers to do this....

Yeah, I think the ad-supported with IAP to remove the ads method is good too. I've seen some apps go overboard with it, but I often buy the IAP if I enjoy a game even if the ads are few and far between. I also often find myself wishing more ad-supported titles had such an IAP.

So did anyone else try the Fat Princess match-3? It's not terrible, and definitely better than Knack's Quest (I'd argue that it's better than Knack too). It's just really uninspired. Still, having been a late adopter of the PS3, I missed out on the popularity of Fat Princess, so it was nice to get a free copy through the game in case I eventually play it.

Awesome to hear this. I just couldn't get into it when it was F2P

What I really hate is having all that space taken up by the game (got all Cheevos and perfected every level) but still I can't delete it otherwise when the new level pack drops I'll have to redo everything from scratch.

I don't even think there's an ETA for the new Hitman Go's pack, is there guys?

These 2 threads are awesome

My personal favorites:
Sword and Poker I & II. Avoid Sword& Poker Adventures; it's disgusting.
Waking Mars
ESPGaluda II
Game Dev Story
80 Days
Monument Valley
Final Fantasy Tactics(tho I prefer this on my PS Vita)
Where's My Water?
Doooors
Shining Force
Piczle Lines
Ghost Trick

Right. So I like Angry Birds Transformers but it's chock to the brim with timers. Everything bar the £6.99 Jenga mode has timers. All timers, all the time.

It's annoying.

Anyone know if the 6 Plus plays the Nobou Uematsu Zelda-clone game (Ocean-something) at 60fps?

Also, is Hearthstone available for 6 Plus?

I've enjoyed playing the first 6 or 7 stages.
Looking forward to playing more later today.

Hey Guys, this game was released a few days ago, it was developed by a new game studio in Portugal called Bica Studios, I have a close friend working in there, but he doesn't have a GAF account, so I just thought I could give them some help talking about the game in here.

I've played the game a lot, and I can assure you that it is simply amazing, and addictive. The UI is very intuitive, and user friendly, the game runs smoothly and for their first game it looks very professional and really well done. There is also a lot of content in game game.

and the best of all.. it is FREE :)

So guys, give it a try and post in here you opinion. It will be really appreciated.

EDIT: It was not my intention to make it look like an advertisement, so, I fixed it.

Its not really a clone, at least thats what I felt while playing it. It borrows a lot but created their own experience. I highly recommend it as is one of the best action RPGs on the AppStore. Followed by Bastion.

It's weird how some posts by developers about their new games feel natural, and others make me feel like I just stumbled on a paid advertisement.
