Nintendo Downloads - October 2014

If he was really bothered about Wii U basic owners being able to play it he should just do a disc release option, you can i believe get smallish runs of discs pressed (9000 minimum maybe?) and it would almost certainly sell

I suppose that might be an option but I just hope they figure out this issue.

Those with a Basic and no HDD aren't likely to be into DL games anyways. So they would really be chasing after a somewhat empty market.

I wonder if anyone ever stripped down an XBLA title just to fit on the 4GB version.

I know no one ever made a game with the Core in mind.

I agree, this is making a mountain out of a mole hill, but as noted in that one tweet the are facing other hurdles. Still this should not really be one of them.

Well, in ye olden XBLA times Microsoft forced the issue by having a download limit because of basic models that had small hard drives or even relied on memory cards for saving.

Unless these other hurdles are just made up to distract from things now the "hard drive issue" is public and they've seen the ridiculousness of it

Sorry to not talk about Oddworld but was this already mentioned:

The EU 3DS eShop has a music update. The music is now Smash Bros 4 menu 1. Is this the first time that the 3DS eShop has done such a thing (the Wii U muzak regularly changes)?

Also did it used to have different BGM for the Setting / Other page? If not I'm guessing that is another change 9.0 bought upon us (I miss you 3D screenshots on the eShop)

I saw the other piece of news that the "New Releases" notifications have been discontinued was already mentioned in the thread.

Now that is just stupid! All it takes to release your game in Canada is to have your game store page entry translated, which is easy, even free with friends/online goers. Game itself can stay in English/etc.

Worth noting that the title in question is a music game with, as far as I understand, no in-game text to speak of so yeah, I don't get it either.

tempted to get all those Castlevania games on the WiiU VC hmm. any recommendations?
Super Castle 4 is really good, often cited as the best of the older traditional styled ones. Circle of the moon is generally more well liked than harmony of dissonance, though that one plays solid too. Aria of sorrow is also really popular, probably my favorite of the gba releases.

there's seldom sale on VC titles right? just thought of getting them now and make use of DDP

Yeah, there have been a few but they're pretty rare. If that's your plan can't really go wrong with them, worth picking them up now.

yea cause I probably won't be able to play them all.
but the Steam collecting bug compels me to make my WiiU a good source of all forms of gaming entertainment

*am I the only? ><

Pier Solar and the Great Architects is finally releasing in the North American eShop next week on Oct. 23rd:

Definitely getting it, game looks beautiful and after all these years I still don't have a lot of JRPG experience under my belt. Plus the prospect of a modern day Genesis/MD Phantasy Star style game is really intriguing.

Edit:

NEVER MIND:

Actually, no it's not

Update:

Publisher Watermelon has now confirmed that the Nintendo listing for 23rd October was inaccurate; as a positive it's stated on Facebook that a release date will be confirmed in the coming week.

Face, meet palm.

Squids Odyssey is apparently pretty good, I remember one of the Tiny Cartridge podcast guys talking it up.

If you live in Europe, it has cross-buy, but only if you buy the 3DS version. I don't know why it doesn't work both ways.

At this price it seems like a no brainer. I was keeping an eye on it, and it looks like a lot of fun, I have way too many games as is, but... sales....

If it's just 1 week behind, i can see it as being a mistake of some sorts.

Taking a quick look at my stats, my game has had 15% sold in Canada. Not something you ignore, esp when it has no extra fee to release there...

Wow, 15%? Usually people say Canada represents 10% of US sales, but I think Nintendo may be more popular in Canada. I bought your game when it went on sale the other day. I haven't played it yet, though. I appreciate you not raising your game's price by 10% or 50 cents or whatever the others do due to the difference in the dollar.

Eh, a $15 "hardcore" RPG could pick a better week to release than Bayonetta 1 & 2 anyways. Different genres for sure, but I suspect a lot of Wii U owners will be preoccupied this coming week. It's for their own good.

Actually, considering NOA put the date of the 23rd on their site, I wouldn't be surprised if this is exactly what Watermelon decided. Wait a week with less bigger releases, but even the 30th is a jammed up too... So maybe we see it on the 6th which is fine. More time to make space in the budget.

Is Citizens of Earth still coming 11/4, though? Atlus (John Hardin) seemed to be questioning it, but if it does that might put a crimp in Pier Solar's sales.

No, it's Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, a game they've been making since before the KS. It's a 3DS/Wii U game, but the Wii U version is coming a little later.

ah. haha how did I even miss this one :/
hmm shall see if I have enough funds to get this (would have loved to get the WiiU version first)

I have $6 idly sitting in my eShop wallet and am really tempted to get a Sega 3D Classic. How are Sonic and Galaxy Force II respectively? Leaning heavily towards the latter since I love shmups and rail shooters (already have Space Harrier 3D). But I'm intrigued at what Sonic's 3D visuals look like. Shame Fantasy Zone still has no NA release set, that would be an insta-purchase.

It's for the better, next week is also Shantae and Bayonetta.

Right, but it's kind of annoying that the date keeps getting pushed back and it's already available on all other platforms. Oh well, at least they're apparently going to announce the real date soon.

It also isn't available on all other platforms yet. Dreamcast, Xbox One and Android versions all have yet to release and are all probably coming after the Wii U release if it's soon. It might also come to PS Vita now too.

3D Sonic looks much nicer than the Nintendo 3D Classics but there's nothing especially surprising about it, it's exactly as you'd imagine it to look.

All the Sega 3D into-the-screen games look great but GF2 is in a class of its own, at least when compared to the other games in the first volume. It's a very short game and I don't know that a lot of people will get a whole lot of replay value out of it (or even be able to beat it without cheating) but it's definitely a visual spectacle.

Common mistake, but the Kickstarter "shantae HD" is coming to Wii U as well. Will gladly wait for the wii u version of Pirate's Curse, myself

Wow, didn't know there's going to be a Dreamcast port too, makes sense though. Anyways, I'll stop griping now.

Thanks, I'll probably skip Sonic (really wish Sega would release a Genesis compilation on Wii U) and get GF2. I don't mind if it's short as I always enjoy refining my skills on these games.

Needs a Genesis port.

Speaking of Shantae I was hoping they'd release a Wii U port of Risky's Revenge before Pirate's Curse to be honest, they did release a director's cut of that recently

I guess there's not much point to it though
