Gaming ragers

Have any of you raged really bad while gaming? From breaking controllers to stuffing television remotes up your butt, what have some of you done?

Worst I've ever done is cut up my Call of Duty games after a sequence of very bad matches. I rationalized it by saying that I spent too much time playing the games (which I did), but I could have just sold them.

I did this twice. The first time was with Modern Warfare 3, and I cut up that game after exiting a match, including my Modern Warfare 2 game which was just sitting on a shelf. I ended up buying MW3 again several months later. The second time I was playing Ghosts and I just ejected the game, took a pair of scissors and cut up Ghosts and MW3. I have yet to repurchase them again.

Edit:

Well, I do have a friend who's broken three Xbox 360 controllers over Call of Duty and Street Fighter. Call of Duty used to especially make him rage and quite depressed because he was never able to get 25 kills in a row in any of the games that rewarded a nuke. He's had several 24 kills in a row, but never that 25th to top it off.

I remember once in MW2, I was playing with this particular friend on the Estate level where I ended up getting a nuke just from using the knife. Alright, so he got pretty upset and thought it was unfair. The next match started and once again I got a nuke (I believe Estate repeated as the map). This made him spout some really nasty things about how unfair life was, how it's bullshit that I keep using my knife, and how he was slamming things at home because he was so upset. Then the third match came and I got a nuke for a third time in a row (I believe Favela came up). This was the icing on the cake. My friend blew his top, broke a few things, according to him, and sold the game.

This same friend also broke his 360, his turtle beach headset, and his door. Yes, his door. He had a really flimsy door made of cheap material, which he would punch repeatedly and slam his elbow through whenever he got fucked up in a match. Every time I went over his door would be in worse condition. The last time I saw it before it was replaced, it had a hole big enough to peer into his room.

Ask Yoshichan :P

I've done my fair shair of SC2 lose to cheese-raging, but I don't break stuff or stuff things up my butt.

It was this GoW2 Match real early in that game's lifespan. Think it was Warzone on River. dude was fucking teleporting around with the longshot, and I just said' FUCK THIS GAME' into my mic and chucked my controller into one of my school plaques.

Not really. I can get pretty agitated when playing online if there's a lot of lag or something but I've never destroyed anything or even rage quit. I probably let it get to me too much though so I'm trying to get better about that.

It's just a game. In the grand scheme of things the outcome of a match or whatever is totally insignificant. That train of though keeps me from ragin'

Deleting a game after an always-online disconnect in "single player" was pretty much the ragey-est thing I've done. Bye, Destiny. Never thrown a controller.
I've dropped a few though...don't hand me your babies

So far I've had the self restraint to refrain from shoving something up my ass. I fear for the future, though.

But the DS4 grips are just so perfectly shaped

I shed a single tear out of frustration on Cave Story+ final true ending run. Fuck, I'm still unable to do that. But people do that with out taking damage, shit I'm bad.

For multi, nope, I'm pretty rare getting angry at multiplayer due to restraining to play with strangers.

Gaming ragers are particularly unecessary, I have been angry playing FIFA online (oh lord!), racing, or adventure games and the more I keep trying to win or complete a level with so many fails, I get angrier but after a while I just put off the game system and walk away then come back when I am more calm

Breaking controllers, Cds, consoles, TVs? You certainly have more issues than just the game

I've broken several PS3 controllers after infuriating losses in Super Street Fighter 4. One time it was just the left stick so I didn't even notice until I tried to play a different game haha.

I have been know to swear rather loudly when my brother beats me at FIFA. He is the only person that I actually get annoyed about losing to. Sibling rivalry and all that I guess.

I'll let out a loud "what the FUCK" or "oh, bullshit." I think I spiked a controller back in PS2/Xbox gen, but I was playing in a room with thick carpeting.

I'm really sick of even hearing people complain, thanks to watching too much Twitch and it's legion of rage gamers. Unfollowed a bunch of people just because that's their whole shtick/their actual annoying personality.

I can somewhat sympathise with this perspective, as there's loads of games I've played 'casual competitively' to have fun, but I've also played games 'serious competitively' to win.

The most frustrating thing in the world is if you're playing to win being grouped with people that are playing to just fuck about and have fun. Conversely if you're playing to have fun, the biggest flaming raging assholes in the world are people playing to win.

Ideally more games would offer Smash Bros style choices about which type of group you feel like playing with, although its undermined by the fact that some people cant help but be "play to win" types at all times and get a kick out of going into casual games just to fuck them up and dominate.

I have friends who consistently break keyboards/controllers out of rage.

They're the best gamers I know so I guess it's working.

Well way back we had some Fifa/Pes Coop Games that ended like this:

It was in good fun though

COD:WaW on Veteran and Jak II. My wife would have to give me a back rub to relax me after Jak II HD. Still haven't gone for III. And I LOVE difficult games.

Sanctum 2 (it's a FPS/tower defense hybrid on Steam).

I had the perfect setup to route the bad guys way around the map and funnel them all through a single choke point. One of the guys on our team obviously had some other plan he was trying to implement and kept making changes to our sweet setup. He ended up taking down a key barrier RIGHT before the round started, giving them an easy direct route to the core.

Slaughter ensued. I told him he was a fucking idiot and rage quit. Haven't played the game in several months. I think time has healed my wounds and I'm ready to give it another shot.

But yeah that was probably the most enraged I've ever been at a video game.

I used to throw controllers all the time as a kid. Now I'm an adult and I've matured...so I bought a shitty Ikea coffee table for punching :)

No, but i've definitely thought "Boy, this just isn't fun" when I am getting destroyed. And I have quit because of it.

RAGE QUIT?!

I'm a calm guy, but I can get really mad at competitive games sometimes. Not raging mad though. I was really good at CoD 2 and 4 on PC back in the day and realizing the fact that I lost my skill just makes me mad.

I always want to throw my controller at the TV, but luckily I have enough self control not to.

This happened most often in Destiny multiplayer. The announcer makes my blood boil, as does the shitty netcode. I'll get a kill shot on someone but the kill doesn't register right away.

I'm done with Destiny now though. Bring on Halo MCC :)

Out side of random cursing at the TV, not so much. But that's now. Years ago I had a pillow set up near me that I would spike a controller in to. That was after realizing I couldn't afford to keep replacing controllers.

I never understood why people play games that make them so angry that they destroy their own property. It's certainly not normal or rational behavior.

If I begin to get frustrated with a game, I simply take a break. Not once have I ever smashed a controller, broken a game disc, system, or anything else out of video game anger or fustration.

I don't know why, but I picture you as Frank Dux from Bloodsport just taking the arcade scene a little too far and breaking the joystick.

That would be cool, but sadly it was just a 2600 joystick, which looked like this:

Get mad enough and you can snap that sucker clean off.

It's hard to look at these things rationally when you're 11.
That's my excuse.

competitive wind jammers makes me swear like a sailor.

I was staying with my mom while me and my friend were playing at night and the next day she had some very unkind words for me because of how much I was swearing

I learnt the hard way as a kid.

Whilst playing International Soccer on the C64 I conceded a goal in the dying seconds and punched the computer. I hit it hard enough to push it in to the wall with enough force to break the cartridge slot.

I had to wait 3 weeks to save up and pay and then wait for it to get repaired, I remember pining for my C64 daily.

Now I'm
A LOT
older so rarely get angry enough to want to throw my controller. On the odd occasion I do, I go to throw and at the last second, place the controller gently on the floor (whilst cursing of course), and just walk away for a bit.

I have a vivid memory of my mental breakdown when A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHED and it was Ness on the N64. I was really young and knew nothing of strategy and he womped me. IIRC you had to beat it on a higher difficulty with very few lives? I was sure I'd never accomplish that again.

Then my mom made me play outside. That's not how you unlock Ness.

I can't even remember what game I was playing anymore but I once got so angry I twisted my sixaxis controller with my hands. The right analog stick and the face buttons were facing backwards... the middle was largely bent and broken plastic, it was barely holding itself together.

It was probably something stupid like I was furious with myself for screwing up in super stardust when I should have crushed my old high score or something along those lines. I'm still not sure why I got so angry that time in particular.

Mostly I get mad at my teammates for doing things that do not include attempting to win in multiplayer games. But I just curse under my breath to myself... that was the only time I really just wanted to break something.

-broke my tv's down button due to City Slickin' from San Andreas (damn car hit me around the corner at the very end)
-pushed in X button on PS2 controller due to Ratchet & Clank somethin'...
-kicked hole in wall due to Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty (freakin' part with seemingly neverending ghost pirates)
-punched mirror in bathroom after reading Ace Attorney 5 spoilers (not even real either, lol)
-broke glass slamming it against my chair after doing terrible in Modern Warfare 3
-broke GameCube Wavebird (big regret here) after losing to Tales of Symphonia boss three times in a row
-broke the hinge on my DS Lite after throwing it against a wall due to Pokemon Platinum
Way more that I can't think of at the moment. Do I have regrets? More than I can count. But eh, this is who I am.
Years ago I had a pillow set up near me that I would spike a controller in to.
That is ingenious. I need to adapt that, thank you.

It's not me personally but my university housemate went through 9 ds2s in one year on Pro Evo 5.

Whenever we played on my console, Normally because he had run out of controllers again, I let him win (maybe) and spent the entire time nervous my immaculate controllers were about to be the next victims to his rage.

We lost part of our deposit on the holes they made in his wall

About the worst I do these days is angrily slap the arm of my chair if I get bodied really hard in a fighting game, mainly because when I was a kid (like, 6-7) my mom caught throwing an NES controller, and she refused to buy me a new one for months because of it to teach me not to break my things.

I still had a second NES controller, but for months my friend had to bring over his NES controller if we wanted to play Double Dragon II or any of my other two-player games.

Rage gamers baffle me. I play Dota on the reg and the most I'll do is curse at the screen. Dudes I've played with have smashed mouses. I don't get it.
