Legend of Korra |OT| Bending the Rules of Nature

Games really fun so far, the continue music is classy as fuck which makes me smile as i think I'll be hearing it alot. :)

So yeah, this is pretty fun. I'm not sure looping music that was meant for a TV show was a good idea, but I guess it saved some budget, and in the menus it works great. It also appears that the most important part of getting a good medal here is time, which is surprising considering how generous it is in the other games. Is there a way to tell which "verses" are ranked before finishing the fight like in Bayonetta?

Those parries feel so awesome though.

Well its sarcasm. Since Destiny reviewed poorly bungie really had to dig deep to find some favorable scores for marketing purposes. Our good friends Biogamergirl is one of them.

I'm seeing Hobby Consolas as well, which is pretty much a joke of a magazine and hands out 10s and 9s like they're going out of style. Even for a Spanish game, posting HC's score would be scraping the barrel; for an AAA US title, it's rolling on floor hysterical. :D

Okay so I'm 2 hours in (finished Chapter 4) and while it's not NEARLY as bad as IGN or GameSpot makes it out to be, it's definitely PG's dullest game.

(So far) the story is nothing, the controls and combos feel very stiff and there's little in term of upgrades and such.

Obviously it's little budget and all, so I can't expect something like Rising.
But I've played SO much worse.

As soon as the credits finished, I immediately started again on Extreme.
That's basically what I intend to do as well now that I finished the game on Normal. The game really is meant to be replayed, also evidenced by the fact that the early levels have items that can only be acquired by using elements that you don't have access to in your first playthrough.

Damn, those reviews :(

Platinums lowest reviewed game it seems. (or maybe that's Anarchy reigns?)

Anarchy has a 71 Metacritic score, Korra has a 50 so far..Korra's gameplay is tighter in my opinion, I really don't get how it's scoring so low. You usually see scores of 3 and 4 for broken games.

Yeah I agree, I think people are not giving it the benefit of the doubt as a $15 downloadable game. Give it a break in terms of it's budget. I think as a nice 3 day distraction for Bayonetta 2. It was just what I needed. It's nothing exceptional but I'm having fun with it.

I think the Naga run sections would be better if they had more of a center and ever so slightly top down perspective.

That's a pretty shitty thing to do. There aren't enough costumes to just lock one behind a wall that barely anyone will be able to access, especially the most unique one of the bunch.

Edit: Looked at some of the replies to the tweet and people who were at the con said the workers at the booth didn't know anything about a costume code for the game, so who knows.

Just finished it. Really enjoyed it for what it is and would love to see Platinum expand on it in a full retail release (as in get a bigger budget and more development time). The combat was pretty tight once you got into it a bit and unlocked more bending and understood the chi charge mechanic and the uses of each type of bending. Earth bending felt strong and powerful like it should, Water was quick and nimble, would have liked to throw fireballs outside of a finisher and air bending did seem kinda OP with it's big AoE attacks.

The Naga parts were alright but I surprisingly enjoyed (Chapter 5 ending spoilers)
the boss fight on Naga.

The last boss wasn't as crazy as I hoped but the chapter did have some cool bits (final chapter and boss spoilers)
Like playing as giant spirit Korra, badguy having his brother fused to him and going all Avatar state on the big bads ass
.

Enjoyed the Probending stuff too and I loved the credits sequence and after credits little thing (after credits spoiler)
with everyone saying "Thanks for Playing" and Bolin being Bolin.

Need to go through again on Extreme and to unlock the things I missed.

Bad things:
Lack of boss variety.
LAck of high tier enemy variety (though I guess there isn't much they could use. I dunno)
No Metal benders. Would have been cool to fight against an enemy with bending Korra can't use (at this point in the series)

It's not like their one use deals, itll be like the other costume code, if someone can figure out why they don't know about them, and someone DOES finally get one, itll make its way to the internet anyways, none of the costumes are dlc or anything

Eh, with the way Nick talked about it could have been a unique download code. Not that it matters either way since they apparently forgot to give them out.

The other code isnt, it says right on the costume select that its an input code, like the other one, so i wouldnt be too worried about it

So just beat it.

That certainly was a Platinum Games boss lol. Once you have all your bending skill unlocked the combat system really shines. Switching mid combo between elements, charging attacks. Pure joy.

Yeah story is pretty much non existent. But doesn´t really bother me that much.

Pro bending is a fun mode, but i´d rather just play the campaign again with everything unlocked. I´m the avatar, i wanna bend all the elements :)

Overall i´d give it a 7/10.

Also spoiler credits:
How nice of them to thank me for playing the game. My pleasure.

So when does this unlock for Xbone? It has Play it on 10/22/14 grayed out where Pre-order used to be, but in the fine print it says it's expected out 10/21/14 at 5:01 PM PDT / 08:01 PM EST.

Edit: Never mind, it just unlocked!

Can anyone explain how the Chi gauge works? I'm looking at it and don't really understand?

When you charge attacks (1 step, 2 step or 3 steps) it fills the bar (you start with none, then 1 then 2 then 3 as you level up an element) after you do a charged attack the bar fills up and for the duration of that time your attacks do increased damage and can have increased effects (like longer range on Earth bending or tornadoes on Air bending).

I think it's not so much that it's difficult as much as it is that it's very casual about dying.

The game will throw a lot of things at you where you'll think "Wait, how was I supposed to see that coming?" Some people are going to think, okay, fuck this, that's bad game design. Other people will go, okay, I know what that is and I know what combo does the best damage against him, I am going to do better this time.

The first mech enemy took me FOREVER. Every subsequent one, and subsequent death, made it take less and less and less time until I was basically styling on them, mostly because I got better.

Yup, the mech enemies are so boring though. It's literally the same thing over and over. I also hate the guys that throw those things that wrap you up... especially because I despise so much having to hit the analog stick back and forth.

I wouldn't mind dying, except sometimes it's so annoying having to see things you already saw again (even if it's just a few seconds)

I'm lovin it, and I really hope this sells enough to warrant making a full budget sequel.
So much potential. Platinum Bending can't end here!

The thing I hate the most so far is when you're fighting the Triple Triad and that QTE counter sequence when they're close pops up so suddenly with a small window of time to react, I've nailed it a couple times, but others I'm just not even expecting it.

Also I found Earth bending is good to bully them with.

first platinum game ever and im really liking it so far but im stuck in that frickin maze in republic city on chapter 2

never mind, i got out haha

Countering the rope throwing guys then doing a finisher is easy mode can take out a whole bunch by only needing to stagger one of them.

You charge up your attacks by holding the buttons down, and they become more powerful. You have 3 bars depending on what level the bending you're using is at. When you're charging, rings will come in towards Korra. 1 ring = 1 bar, 2 rings = 2 bars, 3 rings = 3 bars full. It'll slowly drain, regardless of how much you use the powered up attacks.

As an example, the level 2 Earthbending makes the rocks shoot out further. Level 3 has Korra lifting boulders into the air. Level 2 Airbending has the standard light attack combo produce tornados around her. For Waterbending, the most notable difference is that the ice shard that appears when you use the heavy attack combo grows in size. I believe there's also a damage boost applied for each level of Chi attained, but not sure. Firebending makes the attacks faster, and I actually think it teleports you towards the enemy if you attack after a charge is obtained.

Basically, they modify the properties of combo chains and make your attacks more powerful.

Game looks fun, but those reviews. . . .

Comments??
The game is extremely light on story and one would argue content if you aren't into replaying games but the core combat is enjoyable. Basically what anyone with reasonable expectations expected from an Activision published licensed $15 downloadable title developed by Platinum Games.

It's fantastic imo, idk why the reviews are so low, if you look through the thread alot of people are enjoying the game

Yeah, that ^

Its a solid 7 or 8 to me. Its fun and its best its pretty great. Some fairly frustrating parts of the game keep me from really loving it just yet, but that could just be because its the first run of a Platinum Game, and those never seem to go all that swimmingly.

It's a universal code. So if someone got it, eventually everyone will have got it through here, reddit, etc.

It seems that the code may have never been given out though...

If you're someone who doesn't mind opening up shells and sucking out the crawfish inside, you'll probably enjoy Korra.

If you're going in to it wanting a good story or them to do something really interesting with the license (rather than it simply being a skin for a Platinum fighting system), you will be disappointed.

Right, Right, Left, Left, Square/X will get you the item on the shop menu
Up, Up, Down, Down, Square/X will get you one of the special costumes in Korra's room.
I haven't seen the other special costume posted anywhere.

You really need to do a second playthrough on Extreme difficulty before judging the combat system. Once you get the full charge item (halves health but keeps the Chi gauge full the entire time) the combat really shines.

What's still unclear to me is what doing a perfect charge adds. As far as I can tell it's got the same effect as just holding it down all the way. It seems like maybe it cuts off a few frames of startup animation?

It doesn't have to be a universal code just because the other one is, this game is pretty damn budget, they could have just used the same text for both. I'm not saying I think it definitely is, I'm just saying it could be a unique download code with the way that tweet was worded, and this is Activision we're talking about. It's more likely that Nick twitter just doesn't know what it's talking about, but still.

Also, could we get the codes put in the OP so everyone can stop posting them over and over?
