Is Blizzard going to show a new game at BlizzCon?

I keep seeing people mention that its unlikely we'll see another D3 expansion... I remember there being 2 planned expansions on their roadmap some time back. Has something changed?

I doubt the gap is Diablo related in any case, RoS just came out this year.

It's gonna be Overwatch, a squad based cooperative shooter. Calling it right now. It's a minor side project like Hearthstone or Heroes of the Storm.

I recall Blizz talking about about WC1/2 remakes some months ago, as tie-ins with the Warcraft movie (which is set during WC1).
A remake of those would tie-in with the Warlords of Draenor nicely as well.

I reckon we won't see Warcraft 4 anytime soon, not even a teaser. Starcract 2 is still unfinished, as is the Heroes of the Storm, i reckon Blizzard has no RTS team available to work on WC4 right now. Especially since WoW is still there... "story"-reasons might prevent WC4 for now.

I've been done with Blizzard for a while. I haven't purchased a game from them since they got so greedy that they started charging for each campaign of Starcraft independently. I got an email a couple weeks ago for me to purchase a "Virtual ticket" to Blizzcon. Yea thats greed at a new level. I won't support them with another $1 no matter what they release.

Virtual tickets have been available for Blizzcons for a couple of years now, IIRC. Not sure why you have issue with the virtual ticket but not the event itself...

As for SC2 campaigns, they're full expansions really.
The base game's campaign is just as long as the original Starcraft was, and the first expansion isn't much, if at all, shorter than the first one. All these along with new features and units and whatever else.
Unfortunately the story sucks. Don't think everything crammed to one game would have been any better.

Well I might be getting my hopes up to much here, but with WoD maybe Blizzard will split the timelines at the end of it and thus splitting the brands. WoW and WC both exist in their own space with their own story, allowing Blizzard do to a WC4 without having to worry about WoW.

I could see them doing WC4 only if there's a massive timeline jump into the future. And then you coordinate WoW as a prequel of sorts before launching WoW 2 as the sequel to WC4.

I mean like if you bought Brood War and Lords of Destruction, I have no idea why you would have a problem buying Heart of the Swarm, it was a full expansion not just a single campaign.

I have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that they dumbed down WoW with the ability pruning so they can bring WoW to consoles(No class uses more then 4 abilities for their basic rotation now). I hope I'm wrong.

I expect WC3 to be added to the bnet launcher, I'd love if it was an HD port, but I don't know if I expect that much, HOWEVER, Heroes of the Storm is certainly using a lot of Warcraft 3 models/heroes, it would not surprise me if we got something awesome like that.

I fully expect Legacy of the Void to exist, I also expect Tychus to come back as Infected Tychus, because again that HOTS model is too damned detailed to just be for HOTS!

I could just be making a lot of bad reads though, but speculation is fun. :P

FF14 has rotations more complex than any WoW class (pre-patch) and is fully playable on a controller. I know a lot of people are waiting for that "gotcha" moment where they can point at Blizz and say "lul dumbed down for consoles acti-blizz" but I think they pruned abilities for a lot of reasons. The game is old and has had a lot of abilities layered on top of abilities. It was time for some trimming. Also they have now future proofed the game by giving them space for new abilities down the line. It feels like a small reboot... WoW 2.0 if you will.

Rock n' Roll Racing: Metallica.

Here is why I think this is what we are getting:

- I recall that Activision signed a deal with Metallica for multiple games.
- Metallica was once getting their own car combat game, to be released by Vivendi Universal Games which had merged with Activision in 2008.
- Activision is making a push to revive classic and smaller IPs.
- Blizzard canceled Titan, gotta announce something big to help patch that wound with investors n' shit.
- Metallica is so hot right now.
- It sounds dumb enough to be real.

I'm guessing it will be Legacy of the Void and Hearthstone expansion.

Why spend 2 hours outside of the dedicated Starcraft 2 and Hearthstone panels to talk about them though? There is definitely going to be announcement of something. It may not be an HD trilogy collection, but it's certainly going to be more than an expansion to an existing game.

FF14 absolutely does not, it also plays about twice as slowly. Wow on a controller would be completely awful.

I'd say hearthstone expansion if I had to guess.

Nah, it's going to be Blackthorne 2 and Metallica is doing the soundtrack.

Seriously though, Warcraft IV is my hope.

Probably the Legacy of the Void SC2 expansion.

If we are lucky, maybe a tease/reveal of Diablo 3's second expansion.

Remasted WC2 and WC3 are likely.

But I wouldn't expect anything other than these 3.

I hope it's a two hour panel on how they're going to balance out all the Diablo 3 classes.

The D3 balance plan is pretty straightforward-get a "good" working spec for grifts for each class, ensure there are no riduculous outliers, and then balance patch and itemization add/change to tweak the other specs to be in line for the "good" working grift spec for each class.

It will take some time but the path is more or less deterministic.

I know it's Blizzard time we're talking about, but why is it too early for next D3 expansion announcement? Reveal now, release a year later, plenty of time for development. It's just an expansion (probably only one more act), nothing grandiose.

The last few expansions have taken like 21 months or so to release, but it is plausible. They could have had unused assets from D3's long development that sped up their development or more hands from titan being cancelled.

Yeah it's not SC2 nor Hearthstone related, they both already have their spots on the schedule. It almost has to be something unannounced, something new. If there is any Legacy of the Void talk it will be during the SC2 timeslot. It can't be a new expansion for D3 as it's too soon to talk about that.

It could very well be the remastered versions of the old Warcraft RTS games, judging from the info we have that's my best guess. The only other possibility IMHO is that it's something we know nothing about yet, something new.

Since it seems like most of the Titan team is now WoW focused and their stated goal is a WoW expansion ~every year now! it makes more sense to at least spend some time showing where they are going after WoD, which they can do without taking away from WoD. If not that, then I think info on the next D3 expansion.

I seriously doubt WCIV will ever be a thing, as at this point it seems like they want to keep the three franchises focused on specific genres. There is probably more money to lose in them doing it, with SC2 being such a large e-sport. I can't see them releasing something that might take away from that. I could be (and hope I'm) wrong here, though, as TFT was one of my favorite RTS's, so I'd love a follow up.

A WoW expansion every year? I'll believe it when I see it. They've literally been saying that's their goal for at least the last 3 expansions, and it hasn't come to pass yet.

Yeah, this is Expansion #5, and they've always said they want them to come out as close to annually as possible.

And it was 14 months for just the gap between Mists last CONTENT PATCH to this expansion. I'll believe every year when I see it, but I'm not holding my breath, because Blizzard is notorious for promising the Moon, but always failing to meet deadlines.

I said it before and will say it again. Warcraft 4 will NEVER happen as long WoW is active.

Wouldn't be too hard to focus on other aspects of Warcraft, like where the hell have Turalyon and Alleria been for like the last 30 years, or they could just make a F2P game with free multiplayer and downloadable campaigns that run in parallel with WoW's story.

Plenty of room for a Warcraft 4 as a prequel or an expanded remake. Warcraft 1's story has already been retconned on many fronts and Warcraft 2 nearly as much. Bringing them better in line with each other while also giving us updated mechanics would be enough for me to consider it a 'spiritual' 4.

A remastered trilogy as a single release would be pretty amazing. Warcraft 1 is actually the only PC blizzard game I have never played.

I'd be happy with just a high-res Warcraft 2, though. I get nostalgia for that game every time I do pet battles in WoW due to the music.

The fact that Blizzcon is happening right around the 20th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise also makes me hopeful it's something like that.

I am 95% sure Blizzard has something up their sleeve for the opening ceremony that will cover that unusual break between the opening ceremony and the next panel. However, I doubt it would be the Warcraft RTS remasters, there's no way it would take 2 hours of time.

I'm waiting patiently for it all. :)

I think Blizzard isn't much of what they used to be. Why make a new game when they can just re-release all their IPs in some different format or another. All about those dolla dolla billz. Reality of being bought.

It's going to start with the build-up for Warcraft IV and end with the accidental summoning of Lord Jaraxxus.

Their arrogance will be their undoing.

WC3 HD with touchscreen optimized controls would be my first day 1 Blizzard game ever.

I don't want a sequel, WoW seem to have taken a big dump on whatever mythology the universe had. I mean pandas? Come the fuck on!

Yeah Warcraft 3 would never have panda monsters next to its cow monsters

Yeah we all long for the days when they were owned by the mega-corp Vivendi.
