Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

Wonder what the structure of the game's assets would be like. From this thread it seems like giving the game a tuning pass via modification might be perfect.

My jaw dropped. I can hardly believe it. This is fantastic news. I really enjoyed this game and would never have predicted it being ported from PS3, and to PC nonetheless! Very excited about this one.

Gah, speaking of boycotts, this isn't going to get the kind of attention it deserves since TotalBiscuit has been on a permanent Sega boycott ever since Sega of Japan got overzealous with copyright claims a few years ago.
I'll never forgive their Shining team for the Shining Ark fiasco. Trying to fuck with YouTube videos that most Japanese customers don't view, without disclosing why, is unprofessional at the least, and petty if they're conforming to the opinions of 2ch extremists in favor of erasing the franchise's history
of better games
. TB's in the right to continue his boycott, though his blessing isn't necessary for successful YouTube coverage.

All we need is for both Shining fanbases to come to terms, and for SoJ to recognize and support every title from Shining Force III down. Until then, VC's being handled okay.

Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit. I can't believe how excited this news made me. I read the other thread, but I had my doubts it was anything, but a rumour. Now that is has actually been confirmed I am a very happy person. I always wanted this game on the PC, but never thought it would happen. I will be buying it day one for sure and depending on the price might even grab a copy for my brother while I am at it.

If anyone from Sega is reading this Skies of Arcadia and Persona 3/4 on the PC would be nice as well.

Just thinking about how much SEGA/Atlus would benefit from porting Megaten and Persona to Steam is exciting. Maybe there is a way out for traditional, complex Japanese games without resorting to mobile.

I would only double dip if mods are possible. In a battle, I want to field EVERYONE. Increases numbers of enemy like 10 fold. Then it will be real WWII with interception fire all over the place. Not to mention class needs serious re-balancing. The Ranking system encourages Scout rush which I find totally boring. Scout rushing makes it like an Angry Bird game or something. Seriously, Steam workshops with custom maps and scenarios will give this game long long legs. I hope they deliver. Keeping expectations low.

Scout rushing isn't really a concern for new players or repeat players. I mean, sure from a design standpoint purely making ranking based on turn count and nothing else isn't good but it takes a decent amount of experimentation to realize this and you also need to level up scouts and have good guns later on.

Anyway I'll be doing something with my Steam account finally, I can't remember the last time I've used it

this is the best news. hopefully it leads to vc3 eventually. wonder if it means the shining games too.

Hold up...which Shining titles are you thinking of? Were you possibly thinking of the Shining Force games, the older strategy type games?

Yeah, that's what I argued back when the petition thread was starting up.

But I never expected it to actually happen.

No. It's a great game. One of the best of the past console generation.

Do we know this?

VC isn't specifically a flagship name on the petition but support for VC coming to PC was an important contribution to the petition's momentum, even though lots of people considered it a longshot (like myself.) Since Sega took note of the petition, I'm not affiliated with it or helped it move forward, but I think that the petition helped.

...Yes? Why else would people be disappointed with Val Chron 2 and 3 being PSP-only after the PS3 1?

Atlus is under Sega now, yes. But Atlus is autonomous to Sega AFAIK. You'd have to literally beg in Japanese to Atlus Japan to get them on board with porting their titles to PC or giving them to Sega to port.

That said, if Atlus ported Persona 1-4 (Persona 1 already has a port) and their SMT titles (and Catherine) with P4U/2 to PC, I'd rebuy them all
.

Atlus is willing to work on Sega franchises in the future, and Sega is publishing P4AU in Europe and Australia.I think their relationship seems to be developing. Whether Atlus would have other plans than being more active in porting stuff to PC is another thing.

Atlus USA seems to have fairly active PR though. A PR manager, through twitter, did issue an apology over SMT IV's delayed release in Europe early in September so perhaps they might pay attention. I was under the impression that they generally keep a pulse on fan trends, even if they're understandably not going to respond to or initiate discussion on everything.

What are the odds that Durante is going to have to make a patch for this?

I feel like he needs an apprentice at this point, to pass on the mystical knowledge of messing with direct3d hooks

Otherwise, if something happened to him, or God forbid, he gets tired of saving our butts with his patches, where would we be?

Wait you guys didn't get the JUJU song?

Funny that after the first game, her career skyrocketed and Sega pulled a Sega and plummeted, taking with it the Valkyria franchise.

NONE of the licensed opening songs ever made it over for not only Valkyria, but Yakuza comes to mind as well.

Funny enough, the soundtracks for 2 AND 3 are actually available on iTunes.

This and Dark Souls were the only petitions with significant activity that I've ever seen. Other petitions never seemed to go anywhere due to lacking presence.

All of that with essentially no mainstream media support. Rock Paper Shotgun, and other mainstream outlets, completely ignored us.

Congratulations again to you, Taro, and everyone involved. I will admit I did drift off a bit recently, but I did support you guys and will continue to do so in the hopes to see more titles come to PC and have a wider audience.

but...but... RPS are the saviors of PC gaming :(

I'll be a pessimist and assume it'll be a bare-bones port with no mouse support, 720p lock (that we'll have to bother Durante about fixing), 30 FPS lock, and zero graphics options/improvements.

At least that's generally the behavior of every late PC port.

Though on the upside, it's fantastic we're getting the port at all.

I can't believe I've seen this sort of post several times in the last two threads. This is a Sega PC game. PC is Sega's bread and butter, they do excellent PC ports.

I have more faith in Sega as a publisher than that.

I already platinumed it six years ago so I don't exactly feel enthusiastic (but I do want my eye candy). I hope it means something for VC4, on the other hand.

What I'd like to see are the Tales games on PC. But I wish more Japanese devs would stop shying away from new games. It's like they know they'll fuck up anything that's going to require more modern hardware.

I would too if it wasn't for them promising PSO2 in the west since early 2013 and, well, it's almost 2015 and we don't have it. It makes it hard for me to trust anything they do with the PC.

Plus there does seem to be an industry trend for shittier ports the longer it's separated from the initial release.
