Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

Can anybody tell me how many of the articles they saw that mentioned the petition we organized here on NeoGAF? I'm a bit annoyed at how many are leaving it out because one of the most prominent attitudes we ran into was "Those never work" now we have another petition that has, alongside Dark Souls, worked. Then I see a lot of sites reporting on this that refused to give us coverage and none of them mention the campaign?

I'm admittedly a bit salty about it. The only site I saw even mention the petition in passing was Digital Spy.

Maybe we should try to contact these sites again.
But yeah I remember some of them refusing to relay the petition because "no one at SEGA is aware of that" or "this wont work".

Maybe we should try to contact these sites again.

It's just annoying since we have to organize these big efforts for ports, then we run into these attitudes and then these attitudes continue because nobody is told that Dark Souls was on PC because of a petition, or that more SEGA content will come to PC due to fan effort.

Rock Paper Shotgun has heavily degraded over the past few years, it's no longer a safe hold for PC gamers interested in content. I would pay them no mind.

Megaton. Will replay this just to see it in glorious 4k downsampled and with perfect AA.

Thank you so much, Sega. Keep it up. More PC ports of classics!

Seconded. Pretty fucking dirty to not give credit where it's due.

Gaming Journalism.

Agreed on both counts. Hopefully if TotalBiscuit or somebody big talks about it they'll mention it. I miss TB's Content Patch show where he discussed news & events. The more successful petitions that occur and are reported on the more receptive folks will become to these pushes.

Total Biscuit's not going to cover this. He's been on a permanent Sega boycott because SoJ's lawyers got overzealous with copyright claims on Youtube years ago.

Now go on with untranslated modable Yakuza (5,Ishin,Kenzan and HD Port please) game.

Then we can get at least one translated version of it. Even if its Fanmade.

He may have removed that boycott, he referred to it in past tense recently on a podcast if I'm not mistaken. I cannot believe he's kept it going so long. edit: given it definitely could have been a slip of the tongue.

Got stuck on the stupid tank mission like 7 years ago and never got back to it.

It's the newbkillah of the game since it requires you to think about how to take down the boss instead of just troop rushing.

Of course you can still troop (scout) rush it super hard though if you know what you're doing, and late game lancers can one hit ko the tank after you take the barrier.

This is a game where levelling up doesn't really guarantee your success. People who got stuck at the tank mission and quit are probably impatient.

As a PC only guy who has never heard of this game, tell me why I should be excited about this (not trolling, genuinely curious).

It is a charming strategy title.

The thing that makes it special are the little touches. For example every unit in the game has a little bit of backstory and a bit of personality to them. One character might perform better when they are near girls, another might perform worse. Some people perform poorly under pressure and miss shots, some people always deliver for you.
Combined with the art-style, it all feels so "alive" that you forgive the games many shortcomings and enjoy the experience.

The shortcomings? Well there are a few things you need to be prepared for...

Firstly the game is incredibly poorly balanced. A few missions are hard the first time, but once you work out the "Tactics" it is basically broken in terms of challenge and scoring.

It is anime. It is "good anime" if you know what I mean, but you still get things like a cute pig mascot thing that keeps popping up. There is a beach scene and a magical girl with giant breasts. You need to be able to deal with this.
The story is nice enough, but doesn't make a huge amount of sense. You need to just kind of roll with it all.

Mechanically, there are several flaws which were fixed in later games. For example larger maps have no way to advance your back units, besides manually moving them forward one by one or returning all the way back to base. This encourages you to use broken tactics, because it is otherwise a pain.

What all this adds up to will depend on how engrossed you get into it. I loved it, flaws and all so I think it is certainly worth at least trying.

Well, I followed the petition since the begining, so I know a lot of what happens. It was even more crazy since we had an answer from a CM at SEGA.
Anyway, I think that release should be seen as the opportunity to give the movement a good boost. First, by contacting sites and second by buying the game. This is our chance.

Maybe contact Patrick Klepek from Giant Bomb as he's their go-to news guy and this sorta thing might pique his interest.

I played the first 2 matches of the game and wasnt such a huge fan of it. But after i read about this little touches, im interested. Seems like the beginning of the game is just plain boring.

It does take time. As your cast gets larger, you get more options in battle, the maps widen and their personalities start to come through.

You'll develop favourites, which are the people you can rely on and want to protect. You'll also have people you throw into the thick of it because you are not too fussed on them. Sometimes they'll pull through anyway.

I can see a lot of people not liking it, but if you let it in it'll eventually grab you.

He was actually supposed to interview me and grief during a press push and then we just quit hearing from him. Like told us he wanted to do it then never replied to our emails.

They haven;t forgotten about this gem ;__;

Valkyria Chronicles was the greatest jrpg of last gen for me. This gives me so much hope for a VC4 on PS4 sega not PSV please.

Will it come with all the DLC? Will the DLC at least be available? Completed the main story on the PS3 but never touched the DLCs or any of the optional raid missions so I see this as my chance.

Looking through the pics for this and it really was a great game. The characters especially were pretty well written for a JRPG.

But Rock Paper Shotgun hasnt done their articles for today yet. Maybe they will mention it.

Actually, leveling up does matter, especially in that tank mission where you can't afford to miss shots due to low level RNG accuracy.

I missed like 3 shots at point blank range because of that crappy tank and some low level lancers.

On a side note, I would like to see resonance of fate (ph8) on PC too.

It does start a little slow, but it has one of the best stories for a tactics game I've played. You do start caring about your troops because if one of them dies in battle, they're dead. No resurrection spells, phoenix down BS. They're dead. This is war, son. Despite the magic/supernatural stuff, it actually treats war fairly seriously.

1) Ranking system is broken but still somewhat works. You can just play to avoid the enemies and get an A rank but if you fight them it usually results in more turns hence a lower rank. Although its still possible to fight and get A rank and you want to fight them. You get more experience, and maybe even new weapons if you hit named targets.

2) In larger maps don't spawn all you're troops. For instance I only spawn a couple of Scouts and a shocktrooper and quickly take a nearby base and spawn more troops. This is because you will be wasting a lot of turns taking each troop there.

3) Always visit the guy in the cemetery fro new special commands.

4) And finally Alicia is the best. She is second to none!

Maybe this opens the gates to PS4 version (with trophies!). I got PS3 version but I would so like to play this in PS4 too. What a great game, maybe Iam purchasing this to my PC (laptop) too.
