Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

Gotta love Patrick Klepek being totally dismissive.

Can't tell if he's actually insulting VC or if he's just thinks that not having Dark Souls level of interest means no one asked for it.

I mean, I love that VC is coming to PC, one of my favorite PS3 games. But I have to say, of all the AAA Japanese games people want ported to PC, I didn't think VC was on people's radars.

To be fair to Pat, I don't think many people were asking for it. I never even thought of it as a possibility. That doesn't mean people don't want it now that it's announced.

I am very happy to see it on PC, it will be the 4th time (3 copies of VC on PS3 from 3 regions) that I buy the first VC.

Yeah but it mimics the sentiment of most people considering how VC sold. He definitely could have avoided such a dismissive/sarcastic title though but it's Giant Bomb.
The thing is VC was released as an exclusive for the at the time unpopular console with very little marketing push. It was always a bit of a sleeper with positive word of mouth, but by the time it hit the the bargain bins it was rather too late.

I got a PS3 only last year and did not play much on it yet (mainly due to work constraints and my huge Steam backlog). VC and Bayonetta were on my list of games I wanted to play in the near future, and as both are kinda hard to find today, I am really happy I can just get VC on PC soon.

We are in the exact same position.

Picked up a PS3 late, with all the best games. No time to play them on top of an already massive backlog. I am sitting on some of the titles that have a higher chance of seeing a PC release, VC, Vanquish, RDR, Dragon's Dogma, MGS Legacy Collection, etc.

He told me he would (and I think he also tweeted it, so I don't think I need to keep it secret [unlike 2 other translations]).

Just finished reading your editorial for PC Gamer (I assume that is the one in question?), great piece!

If it does end up being translated to Japanese, it may help further persuade publishers to invest in many of the features you mention if they also know just how much having these features can keep a good game selling even years after release. Backwards compatibility is one of the biggest advantages of the PC as a platform, and even games without mod support commonly experience renewed interest after disappearing from the limelight, especially if they can be rendered with much higher settings on newer machines. In that sense, support for enthusiast level hardware makes even more financial sense.

I think it's fair to say that out of the 4 requested titles in the petition, VC was the unlikely candidate due to factors including comparative popularity(Bayo and Vanquish are both beloved PG titles, VF5FS would have the fighting game community) and being a non-multiplatform title. Since this is now a realization, it's chance to open doors for the remaining titles and other games.

I had two meetings scheduled with Patrick when the petition was first posted.

He scheduled the times for both meetings, and subsequently blew them off.

Yup, precisely what I'm talking about. I tried to schedule one with him. He knew about this campaign so he's full of crap.

Absolutely. I tried to get that across (as cautiously as I could) in the article, but perhaps I should have reiterated it more. I really only go into it explicitly in the beginning when talking about enthusiast features, and later on concerning mod support.

Only got through to the mission where the game gives you a middle finger before life got in the way.

Will be foregoing the PS3 for 4k/60 fps goodness.

Well, at least he's consistent with his journalistic integrity. I hadn't a clue, and thought better of him. What a disappointment.

Funnily enough, today of all days there's an amazing example with the LucasArts GoG re-releases. Imagine going back in time to the release of Monkey Island or Tie Fighter and telling people that people would still be excited about playing them by the time Back to the Future 2 rolls around, haha. Stuff like Dark Souls, Ys or hopefully this will almost certainly continue bringing money for years that would have gone to second hand sales otherwise.

Well somebody should probably DM Patrick about it as that seems more like a slip up that he'd correct if brought to his attention, he's a pretty good dude and not afraid to admit fault when he fucks up.

Really glad this is happening. I never had the chance to play this last gen. Smart of Sega to bring one of their best games last gen to more people.

Like... just left you hanging?

Like Taro said, it's pretty gross that you and other people went to so much effort and now you're being ignored. Especially with that stupid inflammatory sentence. I don't even know who this Patrick person is but that's bad job protocol.

Is Klepek as anti-animu as the other giantbombers? Maybe if it was a squad based wrestling strategy they'd have given it coverage.

Not quite, since he enjoys the Zero Escape games and he's given the Danganronpa series a try (and reviewed both games). He can still be needlessly dismissive, though.

That is a real dick move. I remember when you two posted about having an interview scheduled and I assumed it came out, so pretty bad form from this guy.

I just realized that the tweet that Kamiya retweeted about Vanquish on PC is from a Valve employee. I knew the retweet was a big hint, but holy shit upon realizing the connection.

I'm not that worried about credit to be honest, I just want people to know these petitions work since the attitude that they don't is so prevalent. We had a lot of people asking whether there had ever been a successful one, some folks didn't even know about Dark Souls. I mean it wouldn't drastically change things in the future but the more people who know that these can work the better for such efforts in the future.

PC gamers want Japanese games but we're going to have to work to change the perception of the platform as a community. That's why it's important that folks are told these can work.

I really like Klepek in general, but man, that was a pretty low blow considering prior events. I'm assuming he didn't mean to come across this way, but still, incredibly dismissive.

I posted about it in the comments at least. The lack of coverage from practically everyone is baffling.

I guess in these cases it's no longer a matter of which media outlet cover this. We, the community, need to open up the wallets, the mouth and our Twitter/social accounts and spread the sh!t out of the holy word of SEGAGAGA.

Jokes aside, money talks here so hope this game does well and I'll be there day one like I've been for Dark Souls (double dipped on PC!), Dark Souls 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Ikaruga and Metal Gear Rising. All bought day one.

edit: like I said before, we need another Ancient Hype Train Vanguard! Or maybe a SEGA Ruin Sentinel?
