Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

I guess in these cases it's no longer a matter of which media outlet cover this. We, the community, need to open up the wallets, the mouth and our Twitter/social accounts and spread the sh!t out of the holy word of SEGAGAGA.

Jokes aside, money talks here so hope this game does well and I'll be there day one like I've been for Dark Souls (double dipped on PC!), Dark Souls 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Ikaruga and Metal Gear Rising. All bought day one.

edit: like I said before, we need another Ancient Hype Train Vanguard! Or maybe a SEGA Ruin Sentinel?

I've been day one for every single one of those games as well! I didn't even notice that until now.

Except for Ikaruga, as I'm not a huge fan of the genre unfortunately.

Sacrilege! :P I command thee to go buy it! (It's ok, I understand not everyone is as a shmup tard as I am)

But, yes, I've noticed that all the titles I bought day one were a huge success so I feel like I need to carry on and do the same here. I actually had the SEGA PC version of Virtual-ON, I even used the bloody disc as an album since it had Redbook audio! Those were the days, those were the days. Oh, same deal with Panzer Dragoon. Wish we could get Orta, even if it's just a bloody wrapper and emulator to make it run on PC by brute forcing it...

The only way these moves are going to triumph is by letting your voice be heard (as you did, heh) and then voting with the wallet. Cold hard cash makes even the rocks talk.

But, yeah, we need gifs of this game, hype trains, Sanic mods, you name it.

...

Anything to eventually get Vanquish and go Itano Circus and decapitate giant robots using your metal fists. At 1080p 60fps/120fps/whateverfps downsampled from 4k/9000k with mucho-mucho rules of nature! You read that, SEGA-senpai? Read that, Kamiya-sama? Get on with it!

sega started making shining games with the valkyria chronicles engine/team for the psp around 2011 or 2012. we never got them because sega had abandoned the platform around that time. there's a new shining game coming out next month for the ps3 based on that version of the series.

Yeah I hear you, Shining Resonance and the previous games were Shining Blade and etc. I was just wondering what you were interested in. I half expected classic ShiningForce, because it's more classic Sega (though that's super hard to make an argument for to SEGA now IMO) and because it's a tactics game.

Asking for modern Shining seems bold in its own way. I can't think of other action JRPG's on PC. Though I couldn't be opposed to it, really.

For those interested in Valkyria Chronicles 2 on PC, as long as you own the game, the PSP emulator PPSSPP is pretty great and lets you play games at higher resolutions like 1920x1080, etc etc.

I just realized that I've only missed two of the big Japanese game ports on PC - Dark Souls (wasn't a PC gamer when it released) and FFXIII (not a fan of jrpgs, and figured Squeenix would botch it).

I'm day one for all in the Sega petition though!

I'm day one for pretty much everything in the petition(ok maybe not if all came out the same day) and I think in the past 10 years on PC I've only done that for The Orange Box, Dark Souls 2 and Jet Set Radio.

On the media coverage thing, I've long felt that a lot Segas best games don't get the attention they deserve which hampers sales. A lot of that is probably down to Sega having the worst marketing department in video games but its a shame their good games don't get more coverage despite that. Sadly shit Sonic game #7568 will always get more attention.

Also for those who are itching to play Valkyria Chronicles 3 in English, apparently there is a modding/translation group who has/is adding english text to the game.

Shit, imagine all this in glorious downsampling resolutions:

The game looks so good.

I owned a PSP, but never tried VC 2 or 3. The sole reason is, well, I haven't played the first one yet.
Is it still possible to buy the games nowadays?
I might have to pay a visit to game stores in my town.

It's like $9.99 on US PSN webstore for VC 2. Pretty sure.

Let's be serious. The real reason we're all excited for this isn't because we're looking at the potential for it to be well preserved digitally, or the fact this game is finally leaving PS3.

We're excited because we can finally fix the fact that VC1 probably had the worst jaggies of last gen.

Well, the reason to buy the copies is so that you legally own them. You're supposed to rip them yourself using your PSP, but if you already own the game most people wouldn't frown upon finding a download of the game elsewhere.

Yea, just be forewarned that it's not 100% complete as some parts (namely the prepackaged DLC, the newspapers, some items/weapons) are untranslated. Plus there are some (understandable) spacing issues and glitches (nothing that affects gameplay). Personally I like playing it on the emulator because of screen size and controls.

If you want to play the English patch of VC3, ripping the game is a necessary step.

One of the things I found endearingly busted is the rag-doll physics. I found it hilarious the way the enemy soldiers would sometimes skate across the ground like a tumbleweed caught in a sandstorm, with their arms and legs flying in every direction.

I'm going to rip the game right from the store. They usually give that kind of service. Well, downloading the game would be the last resort then.

With Alicia delivering a moe "un~" after downing an enemy trooper with a headshot as they rag-doll over a sandbag barricade

So here's the problem, that watercolor paper filter is probably gonna scale like ass and detract from the image quality. The crosshatch shadows too maybe.

Perhaps those filters are basically textures easily replaced through something as brutish as Texmod.

Since PC is the hot thing right now, how cool would it be to have Ni No Kuni come to PC? That art style would benefit beautifully from high res rendering. Here are some bullshot examples.

I still haven't finished my PS3 copy, but that would be very cool.

Didn't get a chance to play my PS3 copy before I sold my console. Would buy.

What an age us PC gamers live in, I'm really liking these PC ports, it's both great for us as gamers and great for the developers/publisher to make money on a new market at minimal cost.

This must be one of the harder games to port simply because of the viewport filter frame and etching, so there's more room to disappoint if SEGA can't get variable resolutions working and clean.

I wonder if this means we'll finally get achievements
(trophies)
for this game?

Not Valkyria Chronicles but: http://www.sonicretro.org/2014/08/sega-is-finally-improving-sonic-adventure-dx-on-steam/

And it might finally get them, as SEGA announced today in a Steam forum post that they’re working on improving these Dreamcast Collection games over the next few months three years after they’ve been released. Among these improvements are added achievements

*rubs hands*

yes keep expecting 4k and all that jazz with ports from last gen games
Even the most basic of Sega's ports have arbitrary resolution support (with actual display lists and not dumb presets) or has been patched in later as far as I know (Sonic 4 Episode 2, Dreamcast Collection, etc.). They got the idea pretty clear already I hope.

1080p / 60fps?

If logic isn't tied to the frames then we could get 60. But hopefully Sega doesn't hide the details a week before release like Bethesda did with Evil Within.

I would still like configurable VSync, which has been pretty hit or miss on sega ports.

But the bare minimum I want is arbitrary resolution, configurable keys and unlocked framerates.

i just think its better to expect the worst rather than the best with ports from last gen games as seen lately

also, I just noticed patrick actually starts his giant bomb article with "nobody asked for it but here is a port of Valkyria Chronicles" LOL

jesus christ
