That's the petition I made some years ago. In hindsight, I could have done a better job writing the text for it. I tried to advertise on various forums and on youtube but it didn't really catch on.

I found your petition a few days ago, when i came across your Youtube channel for some (great) Resident Evil mod you made, and immediately hoped this would be revived!

(while being on your Channel I also watched some Video where you and another guy where pushing a cannon around the map in the Black Desert beta for like 20 minutes......i watched the whole thing...........don't know why.......yeah)

Back to Dargon's Dogma. I think it would be great if we would start another attempt for it on PC. This game is probably my favorite Game of the last generation and it would benefit so much from better resolution, framerate and textures!
It's also a game that has grown a lot in terms of fanbase in the last years. We have basically a new LTTP Thread every month here on Gaf and it was also on PS+. So maybe the time is now better than it was a few years ago.

Just an FYI folks, if you voted in the Golden Joysticks, you should have received a 25% off voucher for GMG. I just used mine and grabbed the game for $13.50. The code is personalized and I think one time use, so don't share yours unless you don't mind somebody using it up.

Is it unique per uer? Cuz I did that Joystick thing but didn't get a 25% discount code :/

Well honestly, it probably does make a pretty big difference. I'd assume Valkyria on the PS3 used very little, if any, custom SPE code or assembler. And if you use it like that, the PS3 just ends up being, more or less, from the programmer's high-level language view, a PC with a really slow CPU and very little main and GPU memory.

If that's the case, the biggest issue would be porting the renderer. Which is obviously still mroe work than for an engine which is already multi-platform, but much less work than if you were trying to port, say, The Last of Us.

Interesting.

Unclear at the moment, but speculation is Sega themselves did it internally.

SEGA's PC ports of console games are usually either outsourced or done by SEGA China.

EDIT: SEGA Hardlight also did a PC port of Viking: Battle for Asgard that was just randomly released a couple of years ago.

It would be amazing if this or another petition would gain some momentum. Now then, it isn't a good sign that a couple of years ago, a higher up at Capcom USA was bugging Capcom Japan about Dragon's Dogma PC but Capcom Japan kept being stubborn about it. But I think this is the best time to try to push it as Capcom has drastically improved PC support lately.

And if any Capcom game deserves to be on PC, it is Dragon's Dogma. It's an amazing game, it would benefit greatly from being on a more powerful system, and RPGs are one of the most popular genres on PC. I think it also has big modding potential. The RE4 HD texture pack mod is pretty popular, and something similar would be a great fit for Dragon's Dogma. Fun fact of the day: Texture for Dante's pants in DMC4 is 16 times larger than textures for many entire armour sets in Dragon's Dogma (1024x1024 compared to 256x256).

I think the word got out about the GMG discount voucher as Valkyria is current sitting at #1 in the top sellers list.

Oh but we do know.

Oh but "we" don't. Maybe you do, but GAF isn't a hive mind.

Has Sega actually publicly acknowledged that the petition played a part in this port? If they haven't, then I really can't fault RPS writing what they did.
Obviously RPS can't take TaroYamada's posts as confirmation, for them he would be just some guy on the internets.

No, but that's because he's boycotting SEGA games.

Didn't he stop that after they removed the copyright claims on his account ? I didn't follow the ordeal quite much but if that's the case someone should bring this to his attention, also don't forget to mention that this could lead to a Vanquish port if it does well. He's quite fond of Japanese games and especially Platinum.

this thread is great for two reasons

1) I'm really looking forward to playing VC. I missed it first time around and although I have VC2 on PSP I've never played it because I've heard the first game is better. (wouldn't mind a vita version...)

2) Seeing Durante like a kid in a candy store is fantastic :D

that puzzling face
If the game releases and Durante somehow still has to fix it, will his faith in humanity finally shatter?

There's also this, if someone wants to make it in picture form:
http://forums.sega.com/showthread.p...s-from-Sega!&p=8836496&viewfull=1#post8836496

Same thread, same community manager.

This merely confirms that they knew about the petition back in January, and that same community manager still works there and graced the thread with the good news. That's a bit too thin to be used a confirmation.

I'm asking if the community manager or anyone else from Sega has said anything about the effectiveness of the petition after the announcement.

edit: And just to be clear, I'm not doubting it. Just that the 'lul gams jurnalism' posts are a bit dumb. Healthy amount of skepticism for a journalist is a good thing, and if they didn't get any confirmation from Sega, it's easy to see why RPS worded it the way they did. No excuse for Klepek's douchiness though.

Wow. I saw the twitter announcement days ago but I didn't think it'd be released this quickly, nor for such a reasonable price, and with all the DLC included. I mean, I was only wondering if I should finally get the DLC on the ps3 a couple of weeks ago and it was more expensive all together than this is. I'm so happy I waited.

If they do all this for Skies of Arcadia, I'll be ecstatic.

Skies of Arcadia
Shenume
JSRF
Otogi
Pander Dragoon Orta

Too many games stuck on a console without emulation. At least with Skies, you can emulate the GC version quite well. Good luck tracking down a copy at a reasonable price though.

Okay, apologies, a number of us are in the know.

I am not expecting them to outright give credit to the #SegaPCPorts campaign without any official confirmation from Sega, but they could at least acknowledge the existence of the campaign in the article - something along the lines of oh hey this will please the crowd that petitioned for this exact game.

Good point, and I'm glad they started with VC. It's crazy, I guess; I have both the Dreamcast and Gamecube versions of SoA, but I'm still desperate to have a PC version too. What is wrong with me? ha. (I should get around to ripping my GC and Dreamcast discs).

One of the reasons I am so passionate about PC ports is for game preservation. There are too many games that are stuck on consoles without or inaccurate emulation. A PC port essentially preserves that game for all time.

In 10 years, I might pull out my old Xbox and find I had a capacitor leak or disc rot. Where does that leave me? Even if Steam goes down permanently, or the industry moves away from x86 standard, I will still be able to find a way to play these games.

Just bought it from Dmix in the B/S/T thread. Probably gonna buy a second copy to gift closer to release date, as well.

Soooo excited for this.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
It was based on number of turns, right? Which encouraged a certain "strategy", IIRC.

Alicia panzer rush you mean? scout was also a pretty op class.

'run Alicia past all the enemies to the objective,' in case anybody's curious how easily broken VC1 was.

Yea, the ranking system incited the player to coordinate a 'strategy' around ignoring enemies when possible and limiting your team tactics to efficient throughline progression with a few fast and OP characters for the best grades.

It caused me to drop the game entirely around launch due to how annoying it was. Clean sweep a map without any units getting injured or harmed? Enjoy your C-rank because you took a few extra turns planning that out!

Fell in love with VC1 years later after choosing to ignore the ranking system entirely and enjoy the combat on its own terms.
