Yeah probably send out more e-mails in general to keep it fresh in peoples minds. I think I only have 2 e-mails from the campaign in total.
Wouldn't that also be #SegaPCPorts?![]()
Durante said:Anyway, you should send out an email to all the campaign backers when Valkyria is released.
The Sega PC Ports petition gang are taking credit for this one. I couldnt say quite how much this was down to them, but good on em either way.
Are those people jealous? So, RPS writes about Valkyria Chronicles...
Puts this in the article:
Not as shitty as Klepek's writeup, but nevertheless not cool?
(Also, seems they deleted (granted, rude) comments from the article about them not writing about the campaign earlier).
To be fair, in this case the causation is not really as clear as the Dark Souls. So, RPS writes about Valkyria Chronicles...

I'd be willing to discuss your petition if you like, not sure how much I can help especially as I'd be keeping #SEGAPCPorts my main focus for the near future. I was considering a potential Atlus effort after this SEGA one... but Dragon's Dogma wouldn't be a bad target either, we should consider some type of small scale poll amongst GAF's PC audience to gauge interest level. Like I said in the petition thread, I didn't think a SEGA PC ports petition could work at all until I saw the interest level Grief generated with his twitter push. We SEGA fans tend to think of ourselves as few in number though. I imagine Grief and Nillansan would also be open to discussions, based on my previous interactions with them both
Anyways, love the reaction folks. Looks like another good PC port from SEGA, still trying to get an answer on who is handling the port. I'm not sure if it'll be ok for me to discuss it publicly once I do find out but I'll keep you up-to-date as best I can.
I'm curious about that writeup, care to share a link fellow gaffer? Wondering if its as salty as TB riffraff with the twitter crap over #nodrm. So, RPS writes about Valkyria Chronicles...

It was from a rather dismissive quote from Patrick Klepek to the announcement of the port.

And that was after he blew off arranged interviews with the guys running the petition.
Hey, Square.
Take fucking note.

It's a 6 year old, console exclusive, poor selling niche game from a basically dead franchise. Why else would they even bother? To be fair, we're not sure if they're porting this because of the petition.

Since I'm on GAF, I know about the petition. Otherwise, I don't think I would've heard of it.
So you are saying skip 2 and just play 3? I still haven't played it but I heard it drops the grinding and is structured more like VC1.

Is this coming to gog, or just gmg for now?
But VC was part of the petition, just not as a main goal, which were based on being easier ports regarding engines and etcWhy would they if one of the petition's main goals wasn't getting Valkyria Chronicles on PC? Why not port VF5, Vanquish or Bayonetta first if they're mainly doing this port in response to the petition?
Among those many other requests, outside of the suggested three, special consideration should be paid to the widely requested Valkyria Chronicles, as a PS3 exclusive it's been excluded under factors 2 and 3. Despite the potential for a more expensive and involved porting effort, the PC has a strong history (one which you've had a significant hand in) of strategy titles and we feel Valkyria Chronicles is a natural compliment to your other, strategic, offerings on the PC platform.

How likely is it that they had a PC build in some form of the original game?I know, I said that in my post. My argument is that if they'd do this in response to the petition, it's more likely that they'd go for Virtua Fighter 5 or one of Platinum's games. Especially seeing how Platinum seems to be willing to port their games to PC.

Granted, it's purely circumstantial evidence, but it seems this was likely caused by the petition.
According to SteamDB, work on the registry app began only a couple of months after the petition. This is a game that was previously exclusive to PS3, and from a commercially dead series, it's a stretch to assume this appeared out of the blue from Sega's own volition.
Of course, I don't expect this kind of critical thought or research from gaming journalists at this point.
The #SegaPCPorts campaign needs to hit 20K signatures before the end of the year, I got some more giveaways lined up so hopefully that will help us reach our goal.
I am definitely up for another campaign of similar scale to #SegaPCPorts that targets Atlus or Capcom. Getting the Persona games or Dragon's Dogma on PC would be incredible, but let us discuss it early next year.

Sega isn't a partner of GOG or whatever yet, so probably no to GOG unless something changes.

Anyway, RPS has been getting progressively worse over the past few years. I used to read it daily and now I can't remember the last time I visited the site.

So far, it looks like it's in-house. But we don't know for certain.which company made the pc port?
Unclear at the moment, but speculation is Sega themselves did it internally.which company made the pc port?
That's also what makes it so odd. Surely a PS3 exclusive with a custom engine is harder to get going than a game that already runs on Windows and two games that were on 360 and share an engine with Rising. With hindsight VC was the perfect choice for the port.
It's a strategy game not too far removed from other Sega games on PC, that has a cult following that was only available on one platform early last gen.

Still, fills me with hope and giddy![]()
Yeah, but even on release the game wasn't exactly pushing the PS3 to its limits. I imagine that it not being a taxing PS3 game makes the port not as difficult as if it were a big budget exclusive that pushed the system much harder.
Do not want to derail, but I take it TB still didn't cover any of this?

Well honestly, it probably does make a pretty big difference. I'd assume Valkyria on the PS3 used very little, if any, custom SPE code or assembler. And if you use it like that, the PS3 just ends up being, more or less, from the programmer's high-level language view, a PC with a really slow CPU and very little main and GPU memory.I wouldn't say that would have too much to do with the effort required in porting the game. The engine was still designed around another, reportedly convoluted, architecture.
The rendering requirements are likely irrelevant as the game needs to work on x86.
