Has 343 Industries redeemed themselves with Halo:MCC

Best looking game I've seen on a next gen system. I got killed because I stopped to gawk once. >_<

I consider it this way. I hate deathmatch. I hate PvP. Haven't played PvP FPS in any real fashion since Halo 2. (Did some Halo 4 with my brother, but never got into it). I am terrible at FPS PvP - my goal is to get more kills than deaths and that is extreme victory for me.

I was actually doing very well purely because I was sticking with my teammates and being smart. I actually will play H5 Deathmatch as it currently stands; that's how much I like it.

I emailed the 343 person to ask if I could post a photo of the swag; there's no H5 swag. If I get the OK I will post it.

Wow bro. You really made my day. That sounds very awesome.
Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. And the fact that it looked so good as you have described it really makes me happy.

Don't know if this has been posted yet. Eurogamer is giving out tidbits about the MCC.

Article here; http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ands-on-with-halo-the-master-chief-collection

Conclusions from the article;

"Coming away from our preview session with The Master Chief Collection, we were left somewhat awed by the scale of ambition that 343 has injected into this project. It could have concentrated exclusively on the Halo 2 anniversary and left things at that. We're sure it would have been a commercial success, but it would not have been anything like as special as The Master Chief Collection. There is perhaps the sense that by going "all-in" like this, 343 Industries and its collaborators may have been spread a little too thin and that maybe each title should have had a similar focus to that enjoyed by Halo 2 - or even just a little more development time and effort."

"But beyond those discussions and the countless "what ifs", it's clear from our preview of The Master Chief Collection that the scale of the achievement here is considerable. Unprecedented, even. We can boot up our Xbox One and an excellent, easy-to-use interface gives us quick and easy access to the entirety of the Master Chief story: every game, every level, every options combination - with single-player, co-op and multiplayer game variations all intact. And on top of that, there's the small matter of the remastered Halo 2 multiplayer component too, plus the promise of the Halo 5 beta next month. There's a huge story here where we've only just begun to scratch the surface, and we're looking forward to sharing more."

Which is also the same reaction of people who started with Halo 4 lol

You should try Revenge though, soooo good.

Yeah, I realise that :p

It is interesting that the majority of the hate that 4 receives is due to it being different to the previous Halos. It's not that it's a bad game itself, it's just different to the other Halos.

Is everyone against sprint? Idm it as much, I feel its pretty good for big maps as well. Not sure on the smaller maps, is bit annoying to fight against and feels less classic halo.
Anyways they can just make playlists where some are classic and some are default.

"Imperfect Masterpiece"

Lol.

If Destiny was a Halo game, people would have lost their minds over how much of a fuck up that game is. Relative to how bad that reaction would've been, I'd say the game released relatively unscathed.

That's the problem though, most issues by previous fans could usually be fixed by making it a "spin-off" in Halo we are getting the MCC and H5 might be really good. Burnout though... Pffft they just killed the series off by merging it into Need for Speed when they could easily make Burnout their arcade circuit racer.

You guys like fighting the robot dogs? Think daedact was a compelling villain?

I am not saying it was shit by any means, but the enemies were not nearly as fun to fight as previous games, I had no idea why I was fighting elites again, and the story overall didn't make any sense to me (and i have read 3 or 4 of the halo books).

Honestly, I'm not even sure. Obviously I'm not much of a hardcore Halo fan, and I haven't put too much thought into why I enjoyed Halo 4 so much more than other Halo games. All I know is with Halo 4, I felt compelled to finish it where as with every other Halo game, I never made it past two or three hours into the campaign. Maybe it was the enemies? I did think they were much cooler than the typical grunt. Seemed like there was more variety in the ways you could take on battles. I think I enjoyed the level design and gunfights more in Halo 4 also. Not sure what it was exactly, but I enjoyed it much more than Bungies' Halo games.

Halo 2 is still my favorite MP Halo game, though. Mainly because I was actually good at it. Haha

Sprint ruins Halo.

If I had to "deal" with one modern element in my Halo, I GUESS it could be sprint, but it's still very bad for Halo.

Beautifully written. Couldn't agree more.

My hype is through the roof.

it's better than almost anything.

No. Just no.

Destiny IS a fuck up in general. We all know this by now. But at the same time, you can't deny that the game is addictive as all hell. They nailed the gun play down to a T.

It depends, I'd say. I generally liked Armor Abilities in Reach, but feel like Halo 4 went way overboard. Though plenty of people rag on reach for AAs.

What Halo 4 did right with sprint was by having momentum slowed when being shot. In Reach, Sprint could be an annoying mechanism to escape a death (or even combat altogether if you were caught off guard) and 4 made it harder to simply run away from getting killed.

However, my big problem with sprint in Halo 4 was that by giving it to everyone, in addition to other facets of 4's gameplay design - instant/faster respawns and other changes to CoDify the game and "speed up gameplay" made map movement way too fast. It really damaged objective gametypes and made one-sided objectives completely unfeasible.

Sprint ruins 4v4 Halo. It just doesn't work. I think it's a pretty safe bet that sprint is gone because Midship will be a map in H5. Sprinting on Midship just doesn't seem possible to me. I suppose they could keep it for Campaign and BTB. I would be ok with that.

Halo 5 guy?

FWIW, I got a chance to play MCC and Halo 5 two weeks ago. I can't say much because of NDA (since we won a charity auction to play Halo 5, we were told we can talk about general things, but no specifics) - the MP in Halo 5 is my favorite. By a lot. It...currently rewards skilled play and teamwork more than any previous iteration. There are some very new badass tricks.

Also, the game looks sooooooooo good, Feels like a next-gen game.
.

I think the weaker Halo games are weak exactly because they're open for openness' sake. Openness doesn't equal options. Good scenarios and locales/configurations of geometry that enables on-the-fly decision making - do.

To me Halo 4 is the best Halo after Halo 1, either sharing the spot with - or closely followed by - ODST.

The story is way too convoluted for the average non-Halo nerd, and it doesn't fully leverage the potential of a new "race" worth of enemy types, but as far as getting the dynamic combat encounters from Halo 1 back, it did a wonderful job.

Sure, there are things that don't really gel with Halo, but those started with equipment in Halo 3, and are just sign that Halo 1 was perhaps too much of a bullseye. There's barely anywhere to go from there, mechanically, that doesn't just interrupt its gameplay loops.

As for multiplayer, sure. Maybe it's the worst multiplayer Halo. Or maybe it's the best! I've never really paid attention.

I played Halo 5 as well (you probably saw me there). Was a lot like Halo Reach, but with no Armor Lock. Also, the DMR was still over powered and infinite sprint is a default setting for now.

Doubt it will be a competitive game...just sayin.

Frankie told me this is all I can say

Like Reach?

LIKE FUCKING REACH?

THE FUCK?

That's a joke post, friend.

He should probably edit it doe...

Alas, the beta is set to start late December. :(

It was fun enough that I am probably going to buy a X1 and MCC to get access.

Also, since they announced it in the press release (http://news.xbox.com/2014/08/gamescom-halo-5-guardians-multiplayer-beta-vidoc) - dat 60 FPS. MMmmmm.

EDIT: Hrm, straying close to the "no specifics" rule.

I saw it before you edited it :P

I feel that the biggest balancing issue of the Halo 4 Multiplayer was the presence of perks. Players could carry two primary weapons, survive a vehicle explosion, regenerate their shields faster, carry more grenades, do more grenade damage, sprint forever, and more. They're the first thing that needs to be eliminated.

If 343 feels they need to include something class-based, they should bring back Invasion, with a higher player count. Give players more creative objectives and all types of matchups: UNSC vs Jul's Forces, Arbiter's Forces vs Brutes, UNSC vs Brutes, and more.

There should be a separation between Arena and larger game modes. The Arena playlist could include 4 vs 4, 5 vs 5, and 8 vs 8 Slayer and Objective Game Modes separated by Ranked and Social. There would be no loadouts or armor abilities. Possibly no sprint as well depending on what 343 wants to do.

The bigger mode would include loadouts. It would include Invasion 2.0 playlist along with bigger team based Slayer and Objective playlists, possibly 12 vs 12, 16 vs 16, or even more. And 343 can think of some even crazier modes to include (Scarab Battle?)

I have confidence in 343 with Halo 5 but if all else fails, we'll always have the MCC to fall back on now.

Thank Christ.

Halo will forever be dead to me if any future game plays like Reach. Fuck that wretched, hack piece of shit that nearly set my most beloved game franchises on the road to ruin.

I apologise if I've offended anyone who worked on it, but goddamn was it bad.

Atleast it was better than Destiny.

As mediocre as each other. I literally see red whenever Reach is mentioned. It will always be the game that set the series on the road to Halo 4 and to near ruin by forgetting its roots and instead chasing the current big thing.

Unforgivable. There's a reason that even 10 years later people are giddy at the prospect of playing Halo 2 multiplayer again. The same will never, ever be said about Reach...

As much as I'm excited for this I'd love for Reach and ODST to either be DLC for the MCC (Probably impossible, I know) or to have their own 'spinoff collection' type deal.

Truth be told I'd still pay like $40-50 for that.

That's not saying much, really...

Well I personally quite like it. Definitely the worst Halo however I still enjoyed it.

Forge was undeniably fantastic. Best in the series by far. Looks like H2A is about to take that crown though.

Halo 4 was easily one of my favorite Halo campaigns and I quite enjoyed the multiplayer despite its changes, so there was never any need for redemption in my eyes. Of course, Reach is probably my all-time favorite Halo multiplayer, and along-size Halo 4 for favorite campaign, so my opinions are completely null and void for most fans.

I always felt the cries of "CoD rip-off" and what-not among the community regarding Halo 4 were always greatly exaggerated. I do agree that it wasn't fully inline from what's expected from Halo's multiplayer, and am happy to see 343 embracing the series' roots going forwards, but I also think Halo fans can also be much too resistant to change. It seems so often members of the community just want to see the Halo 2 multiplayer suite recreated 1:1 every three years, rather than letting the series grow. Yes Halo needs to acknowledge its past and keep to its foundations, but if they keep putting out the same multiplayer suite with better graphics every 3 years like so many people apparently want, then I'm not really sure what the point is.

ill-informed nonsense. Destiny isn't perfect, but is head and shoulders about H4.

I honestly think that's not a common opinion. I thought Destiny was awful, but have enjoyed Halo 4 a lot.

Does anyone know if a mod has vetted Cybit? Just curious because that would drive my hype levels to critical mass.

Anyways, can't wait to see the Halo 5 match on November 10th

Pretty sure Halo wins out in that regard as well. At least Spartan Ops had a story. In Destiny you go from waiting for Robot Dinklage to open a door to shooting a bullet sponge for 10 minutes.

I'm in line with you on this. Gladly pay for these via DLC.

they're aren't that similar. strikes are 12-30 minute dungeons where you fight through waves of enemies and then kill a boss. spartan ops missions are more like short quests.

interestingly enough, destiny's story format is very similar to spartan ops. Go here, use Ghost/Activate Switch, fight waves of enemies. They're bite sized missions part of a larger arc that's broken apart into "chapters". Spartan Ops launched with 25 of them and added 25 more (for free). They also came with matchmaking (which was laggy as hell but it was there).

Oh, and Spartan Ops had a story.

Oh, and Spartan Ops had a story.

I'm still hoping they take Spartan Ops to the next level and have you traveling around the galaxy in the Infinity completing various missions from Lasky and then maybe getting Spec Ops orders from ONI. Have a bunch of different mission objectives and locations.
