Has 343 Industries redeemed themselves with Halo:MCC

Clearly talking about Reach.

C'mon guys.

I dunno, they messed up Reach playlists for god knows how long. Haven't bought DLC since, burned me good. 343 are kinda cold and calculating sometimes when fun and two feet first could bring some interesting results. Should let loose more instead of strict plans and factory like design to expand the brand as their number one priority. Halo 4 is bizarre, that wasn't Halo done right, a Halo studio that hardly nailed any of the great things which make Halo, you would think they've never played one before.

343 have yet to make a good single player and multiplayer but they are clearly talented with movement and shooting being top notch. I'm not a great fan of their art which isn't subtle and crams way too much in making it too busy, terrible texture choices like Forerunner shiny metal, yuck.

Halo 5, not against anything new, just get Halo and bring some fun changes.

No they have handled halo poorly when trying to make their own and it was obvious they were gonna do something to get Halo fans to jump on the X1 ship especially after Halo 4(because that didn't do the job like they thought it would). Microsoft knows that the major reason the xbox is still around today is because of the buzz that surrounds halo and the fanbase that follows it.

I love when people cite Reach and now Destiny as Bungie's fall from glory. They are both excellent games with superb visual/audio design and compelling, consistent combat across both the PvP and PvE sides. They are my favorite games of all time.

Do I love the more simple designs of the Halo games? Absolutely. I think it would be amazing for 343 Industries to make Halo a simpler game, because then I could have the best of both worlds. Halo 4 was not that at all. It branched out further than Reach did, but in ways that didn't feel good to me. I won't tell anyone that Halo 4 is a bad game, but I do think it is of substantially lower quality than its predecessors. As an extremely invested fan, it tarnished the franchise in my opinion. That is why people talk about "redemption".

Halo 4 isn't anywhere even remotely close to bad.

Sprint
Perks
Loadouts
Hitler Halsey
Poor map design
File share broken for months
"I just wanted to feel you"
Weapons on map generate randomly
instant respawn
experience based unlock system
Deus Ex Cortana
Spartan Ops
Boltshot
Promethean weapons just being other weapons but red

Am I missing anything?

ill hold judgement after halo 5 is released, taking credit for someones work is not creditable as redemption, halo 4 story and campaign setting was garbage, MP was ok, halo 3 is still the best of the series for me

It's a great package and a great value but I don't know how much of that is on 343. Sabre and Certain Affinity did all the heavy lifting - and Bungie, if we're being real. 343 can only redeem themselves in Halo 5. The future of the franchise is paramount, no matter how neatly they rewrap old gifts.

there's something cheap and nasty about the whole thing. Something forced and awkward.

Ask yourself this: would Bungie have released this package?
After having seen the Destiny debacle unfold I feel as though I can safely say: yes, absolutely. Only each game would have been sold separately and you'd have to pay the cost of a new game for two DLC maps.

Talking much?

FWIW, I got a chance to play MCC and Halo 5 two weeks ago. I can't say much because of NDA (since we won a charity auction to play Halo 5, we were told we can talk about general things, but no specifics) - the MP in Halo 5 is my favorite. By a lot. It...currently rewards skilled play and teamwork more than any previous iteration. There are some very new badass tricks.

Also, the game looks sooooooooo good, Feels like a next-gen game.

Please be true...

Just feels like a next Gen? Or does it look like a next Gen?

I want to believe.

I believe you. I've seen enough from 343's management to know that it's capable of amazing things. I have a good vibe about Halo 5.

It's the Burnout effect, Paradise was not a bad game at all but it was not a good Burnout game either. Halo 4 wasn't a bad game but it wasn't a good Halo game.

I agree with Paradise and Halo 4 being "bad" but I wouldn't call them bad games

It will be hard to fuck up Halo 5 more than Destiny. To me Halo 4 was kinda on the same level so i expect some improvement.
But no they have not reedemed themselves by porting an older game

I'm glad reflecting on the existence of subjectivity brings out such a nice emotion in you.

At least Bungie is not in charge of the Halo series anymore. After Reach and Destiny I don't even want to imagine what would have happenned... :shudders:

Well, I guess the Inheritor kids still like them. LOL. But seriously, it's really sad to see such a great developer degenerate so much so quickly. Bungie, what happenned to you?

Halo 5 is already better for the simple fact that it will have characters and a story.

People are getting all over this game/s and it isn't even out. How do they "redeem" themselves with games they didn't make? I don't think anyone is questioning 343's technical proficiency, the real question is whether Halo 5 won't be stupid.

I hope this is true.

HALO is my favorite franchise and I want to know everything about the universe.
If Halo 5 cannot be better than its predecessor, the franchise shall be dead very very soon.

People considered Paradise a bad game?

I fucking loved that game.

Best looking game I've seen on a next gen system. I got killed because I stopped to gawk once. >_<

I consider it this way. I hate deathmatch. I hate PvP. Haven't played PvP FPS in any real fashion since Halo 2. (Did some Halo 4 with my brother, but never got into it). I am terrible at FPS PvP - my goal is to get more kills than deaths and that is extreme victory for me.

I was actually doing very well purely because I was sticking with my teammates and being smart. I actually will play H5 Deathmatch as it currently stands; that's how much I like it.

I emailed the 343 person to ask if I could post a photo of the swag; there's no H5 swag. If I get the OK I will post it.

I don't see how 343 can take credit for the work of Bungie. The MCC is a remaster of a game that another team made.

Can you confirm or deny if sprint is in the game? I think that's the biggest question we have, since we already know armor abilities are out.

If your problem with 343 lies in their ability to make a new Halo game exampled by the only one they've made, Halo 4, I don't see how a collection comprising mostly games they didn't make, no matter how impressive MCC may be, can instill confidence.

Dam 10 & 11 november can't come fast enough

the other guy said unlimited sprint was default.

The other guy was joking. Go back a few pages. He never played Halo 5.

EDIT: I'll save you some work.

I played Halo 5 as well (you probably saw me there). Was a lot like Halo Reach, but with no Armor Lock. Also, the DMR was still over powered and infinite sprint is a default setting for now.

Doubt it will be a competitive game...just sayin.

Frankie told me this is all I can say

It was a joke everyone.

Thanks for noticing. ^_^

They asked me not to talk about any specifics since they are still doing a lot of internal discussion on what to add or remove. Sorry. :(

I'm glad 343 experimented with things like sprint, perks, instant respawn, kill cams, kill streaks, and loadouts to see what people would like in first person shooters. I think Halo 4 might have established itself as the trendsetter in console FPS market like Halo CE did with unique, new concepts like those.

Exactly. Otherwise we'd be stuck with a formulaic, risk-averse strategy like Activision plays with Call of Duty.

Fair enough. We'll find out for sure in about a week. So jealous that you already got to play some of it!
If you really did, of course

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really enjoyed Halo 4, so they don't need to be redeemed for me. But hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And Halo: MCC is probably one of the best collections created, it's amazing how much content is in this package. Looking forward to picking this up and replaying the old Halo campaigns more than the multiplayer. I wonder if they will ever release ODST and Reach as DLC in the future.

Hey Halo 5 guy, Sprint, Slide, Ground pound are new abilities right?

Camo and Jetpack are hopefully out? Damn I dislike Sprint but could live with it, those two though are shit
