Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

Disappointing at first because it's not what I personally wish Blizzard would make... I want Warcraft IV a la old school orc versus human... troll axethrowers raiding snowy elven lumber mills.

But gotta admit, this game looks good.

1. killer and unique, refreshing art style
2. smart genre/revenue model for the overall diversity of Blizzard as a business/studio

This is large? Her waist is incredibly narrow, her face is skinny, and even covered in armor her hips are no larger than the sniper chick.

She's also like 10 feet tall. When I said large, I didn't mean fat.

Although upon second inspection, it looks like they have her and Mercy on risers in the team artwork.

Which is disappointing.

I want more big girls in games.

So is Guild Wars 2 PvP a MOBA? Not denying that there's overlap, but structurally it seems like much more of an action game.

I think the small number of skills and the big unique ult are a moba trait more than anything else (GW2 might be close but from what I've played you had very tiny cooldowns and no real small set of specific skills)

From everything that has leaked about Titan it seems like Overwatch is what was salvaged from it. Looks really fun. Can't wait to try the beta

6v6 is a good size, i don't get why everyone wants every shooter to have large team sizes. Many times that just gets too chaotic for what they're going for.

Graphics are shit.
The FOV is so fucking aweful.
The UI and crosshairs are too big.
And all the dialogs were like written by the same guy who wrote Diablo 3.

BUT MY GOD. The gameplay looks awesome. The classes are freaking amazing, i'm actually excited for Blizzard game.

That younger brother character in the CG trailer looks a lot like something Gabe from Penny Arcade might have designed.

In fact, it looks like the way he draws his son.

It's just a few people seems like. 6v6 is tried and true for competitive online fps an I am glad they went with this.

Oh wow, it looked TF2 like, but then I got to the part of the trailer where the spy stabs the sniper and then they cut to a medic with a literal TF2 medigun

I mean, it looks super cool and I'm very interested, but come on guys

There was no spy that stabbed a sniper, that was an asshole with shotguns blinking behind them and blasting their asshole open

I think the most distinguishing features of the MOBA genre are the structure of the main game mode (towers, lanes, creeps) and the fact that you customize your character and skills as you level-up in a single match.

This is more like Monday Night Combat with several of those elements removed.

No doubt some of the classes and abilities are living in the same design space as TF2.

I liked tf2's default 12 v 12 size. 8 v 8 feels like a nice compromise, but 6 v 6 isn't a dealbreaker or anything for me.

That's being blunt. Considering it has to run on a lot of platforms, it's fairly passable.

TF2 has pretty much set the standard for unrealistic class based shooters. They just had way too many good ideas for other people not to use them. It's basically the "Simpsons did it" meme in shooter form.

/me waits for Source Filmmaker machinima debut of Overwatch characters

I'm kinda dissapointed in the female designs.

That british chick's face is fine and all, and so are their general outfit style, but they all practically got the exact same bodytype.
Seriously, not only that, it's identical to Sarah Kerrigan's body type.

I'm not that big of a fan of any of Blizzard's games but this looks a lot of fun. Looks like their take on TF2 but with MOBA character traits and I quite enjoy the design. I look forward to it.

TF2 but with MOBA-like characters actually sounds pretty interesting, more so than Battleborn at least. I sort of stopped playing TF2 years ago, so this might be a good replacement.
Happy to see Blizzard launch an entirely new IP, it's been a while.

Nope. Valve did it first. You know, like Pudge and Drow Ranger.

Please tell me people aren't saying Valve did them first. That's clearly an Abomination and Sylvannas x_x

I mean I'm not complaining because DOTA2 is based off of DOTA1 which was a Warcraft 3 mod using Warcraft 3 units, but still.
