Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

Ah, the pieces are really coming together

I wonder if the CGI trailer was originally made for Titan. The line "We could always use more heroes" would make the most sense if you afterwards get to create your own character.

Pretty much what I'm thinking, that line makes no sense in the context of what Overwatch is. But makes perfect sense in the context of being for an mmo.

Titan's concept sounds like a good fit some historical generations from now, when VR tech is advanced enough to render that simulacrum. Doing menial jobs before fighting sounds like a crazier kind of Harvest Moon.

Has it been confirmed if it's F2P or not yet? I'm not interested if it isn't a full paid release. With the extremely high prices Blizzard has been charging in HotS I'd be worried about the same gouging happening in this game

Jesus Christ this game is so awesome. Characters fit their roles really well. I played my games with Mercy and it was INCREDIBLE. I've never had more fun playing support in an FPS in my life.

Looks terrible

Looks amazing.

Yada yada not a hivemind but they're only a post apart with only a word of difference

A new IP by Blizzard, and it's a team shooter in the vein of Team Fortress 2?!

This has my attention. Signed up for the beta, I hope I make it. This game has a really good "comic book" art style, at least that's how I perceive it.

I look forward to more.

Best CGI trailer Blizzard has put out in years. Interesting game design, this far exceeds what I have come to expect from Blizzard. Very impressed.

Compare the Overwatch CGI trailer to the SCII CGI trailer. It's like two different companies.

This couldn't be any less appealing to me - maybe if it was a MOBA, but probably not. I am one of the unfortunate folks who happens to hate games like Team Fortress; this honestly looks worse than that though. The visuals appear really plastic, and it just screams cookie cutter.

I'm sure it will have a Blizzard charm and be successful enough, but I can't help but wish the resources were going into a different genre or new concept instead of this typical team shooter deal.

I rewatched the gameplay stuff now without the hype clouding my judgement.

I think the game has some good ideas. It looks interesting enough to at least give it a go once. What I do worry about is how it will age.

While not "ugly", it's coming out a time when the generation is about to change in a big way. I do hope the developers come out with a sequel, because I don't see myself playing the same visuals for the next 5 or 10 years.

Although knowing Blizzard, this wish will go ignored and they'll continue to support this for a decade.

It also made sense in the context of what had happened maybe 45 seconds before she said that.

Within the trailer itself it makes sense yes. But it doesn't make sense given that it's a trailer about Overwatch. The whole trailer feels it's made to be an invitation to the viewer to join this new universe and become a hero. The focus on the kid and line about always needing more heroes simply doesn't make sense.

Then why would a MOBA appeal to you?

I love the art style and the cinematic trailer, but I don't know, that gameplay trailer didn't really do anything for me, personally. I'm still really interested to learn more about the game, though.

Played 3 times, not sure how I feel about it. Dips into 60 or sub 60 with tearing constantly and these mice are always on 6000 DPI.

In a team game where I can't talk to the team it is hard to feel things out, but last match we had a solid team who played their roles finally.

TTK feels too low for my taste, but the game is twitchy which is good.

I'll need to play a lot more. Played everyone a decent amount except maybe 1 character.

Want wall hacks removed

I'm kind of sick of these stylized cartoony visuals. We have enough of that with LoL, Dota, (and heck Blizzard's own games). I wish we could get a grittier version of TF2 rather than basically the same thing, or something more like NS2 (preferrabley NS1 because that was the NS formula perfected). We don't need more of the same popular fpses, give us something new..

My first impression is a shinier TF2 with the fluidness of Dishonored and uncounterable specials like Destiny. Will definitely check it out depending on how Blizz handles the payed content.

If there's one thing gaming is lacking, it's gritty FPSes.

It's not Team Fortress by any stretch even though a lot of things look ridiculously similar on the surface. It's kind of weird because its combat feels more MOBA than FPS even though by all rights it's an FPS. But because of the extreme movement and a lot of damage on the ultimates, offensive roles are a lot more divey in this game than in a traditional FPS. Also the smaller team size and closer maps, it feels possible to carry games when you're on fire. It reminds me more of playing League than it does playing TF2.

Hahaha this is hilarious.

For real, this looks like a lot of fun and hopefully Blizzard adds even more characters. Interested to see how they tackle the FPS genre. I personally love the stylized fun look of it.

The healer is in first place? this is madness.

Came expecting to be "meh, another damn shooter", but I really like the character designs (which is odd, since I'm pretty meh to Blizzard's stuff), and the gameplay look to have lots of variety, which is nice.

But, I was super bummed out that this cool dude was not in the gameplay trailer:

White Fox will be great to play i'm sure

They stated they aren't the people to talk to about the business model during the panel, so we don't know yet and from the answer, neither do they.

This is not port begging but just a question: is this PC only?

They stated PC is the focus but they wouldn't want to keep gamers that aren't PC gamers away either. So PC first, consoles later, unofficially at least.

Awwww yiiiissss.

Seriously, you get some absolutely ridiculous tools to stay alive. I got jumped by a tracer and I'm like "fuck yoooooooooou" and I use my guardian angel to zoom up to where the widowmaker is sniping from then boost the widowmaker's damage and she one shots the tracer.

It's kind of crazy this is even a thing. I don't recall even hearing murmurs of this. Kind of cool to have actual surprises in the industry. I'm glad the early feedback is good. Exciting stuff.

They were not kidding about this game being less lethal. Even though the ults have some absolutely fucking ridiculous burst (REAPER I'M LOOKING AT YOU) the regular combat skirmishes take far longer to resolve themselves. Tanks feel like they can take some real pounding as a result.

I just can't be more hyped about this game. I've been on a break from FPS since there just isn't anything out that I am really excited to play. Heck, there isn't much coming that I am that excited to wait for.

But now my favorite developer is making a game for my favorite genre? It is like I just won the lotto. I am holding my hype in check, cause who knows - maybe it won't do well (fuck, it will do well), but maybe I just won't like it (I will).

The game I was most anticipating before this I guess was Dirty Bomb. It is pretty similar since it has a lot of MOBA elements the same way. They both ditch classes and adopt a character based approach. I've been in the DB beta for over a year and a half now. I can't talk about DB cause of a NDA, but now its like not even a game I care about if Overwatch makes it big. I signed up for the beta in a heartbeat. I really hope I get in. I don't care if it is a f2p or 100 dollars. Just take my damn money!
