Tales of Heart R: Reviews/Info

They didn't keep the song? :/

Things I'm seeing wrong with this localization:
- No dub.
- Name changes in combination with no dub, though the script itself is apparently fine.
- Song replaced with generic nonvocal bgm.

How upsetting, they had such a good track record with these for a while.

This combined with the lack of victory subs and high random encounter rates make me sad.

Anyone know if the game allows you to change the names of the characters? Different Tales games allow it, some do and some don't, and some do but don't in localizations.

Edit: search on interwebs is looking like a no.

The latter I don't care about. Buy a holy bottle or get good.

Uhh... I think he means the original GC version, not the HD one.

With the original they hadn't actually done a tales localization "right" yet either. I think Vesperia was the first one that actually was fully localized with no corners cut. Graces and Xillia are also like that. I don't know if they did Xillia 2 properly (there's a post game mode where you can have the main character speak his lines and I'm not sure if they did it).

What? Why would they change the song? Bamco you've been doing so good with the openings lately, don't fall back into that old shit and replacing it with some new music. At least make it instrumental if you have too.

Doing digital but then again maybe I could order a physical copy since I have Amazon prime. Hmm.

But if they didn't sub the victory quotes that's really fucking stupid, considering that's a good bit of dialogue nobody will understand.

Totally forgot this was hitting tomorrow. Glad i've got it preordered...but damn...who would've thought i'd end up having a slight RPG backlog on portables.

I attempted to with the Japanese version but I don't believe you can.

The victory quotes are subtitled. Where did you hear otherwise?

I'm ready to put up. First Gamestop purchase since xenoblade, and under similar circumstances...

32 gb is full, and I am betting on this being a rarer title in the US later on. Kinda fits my collection anyways.

You should call your local store and see if their being shipped any unclaimed copies and pre-order today. You will still get all the pre-order bonuses and be gaurenteed a copy since they will pull your pre-order from the copies they receive.
Thanks for the suggestion. I really just don't like dealing with Gamestop anymore and everytime I go to a physical one they always try to get me to pre order stuff. I really just don't like it that much. My local one had no copies of Bayonetta 2 the day it came out, I'm not holding much hope for Hearts R. I just ordered it online to save myself the walk to it.

Since when is the Vita filled with "top-quality RPGs"? I haven't been impressed by anything Vita-exclusive other than P4G.
Why should it be exclusive?!

A good game is a good game; fuck exclusive statements. I really don't Understant.

" this game is fucking great"
Jup, but it's no exclusive sooo... doesn't count.

Please elaborate..

I'm going to play devil's advocate, because this isn't what I believe as I love playing my games on a handheld and that's added value for me, but a lot of people would rather play their game in the best manner possible, which 8 times out of 10 is not on the Vita for them,

I don;t know man, it's tough nowadays. I'd almost rather play all my jRPGs on my Vita, so I can spend my console time playing MP games like CoD, Killzone, BF and Destiny. I guess I'm in that 20% then...

From experience with Atelier and Neptunia on both PS3 and Vita, I'd say that both of those franchises benefit greatly from portable play (i.e. doing a bit of exploring in Atelier and then suspending; doing an optional dungeon in Neptunia and then suspending).

Maybe those two games are the 2/10 and the rest of the JRPG's on Vita are the 8/10, but they're the only two I can compare so far (Tales will be the third :P)

That suspend feature is one of the greatest things about handheld gaming. I can play for small chunks of time and just continue where I left off with no issues.

Think of it like this. When the Vita 2
never
comes out, which great Vita JRPGs do you expect to get ported to it?

If they port Disgaea 4... it's still a PS3 port. If they port Atelier... it's still a PS3 port. If they port Persona 4... it's still a PS2 port. If they port FFXHD... it's still a PS2 port.

So when someone says it is easy to lose Tales of Hearts R on a system full of great RPGs... it's weird. From my perspective, even picking up some of the Vita ports and playing through them, the Vita library is pretty barren for great RPGs and Tales of Hearts R (though it is also a port itself—just one we never got in the West) easily stands out for even existing and not being a cheap fanservice game with (hopefully not) dialed-in gameplay.

So how many Vita RPGs are really going to be worth anyone's time to port?

No one is saying these are bad games
(some people will say that any/all of these are bad games)
, but they aren't top-quality Vita JRPGs and it is easy as hell to overlook them, especially if you are old enough to have played them all originally.

I'm seeing multiple "Fun story with good characters, battle system's a bit bland" and "Generic story with bad characters, battle system's fantastic" reviews.

Welcome to the Tales Series.

it is usually great battle system, OK story and OK characters. Take it for it is but the Tales games are usually fun to play, but don;t expect to be blown away by the story or characters. Tales or Graces f was my first Tales games since Legendia and I really had fun with it so I got Xillia and really likes that one too, then I got Symphonia on the PSN sale and haven't gotten very far into it yet, and I had to get this one since they had a physical version at GS. They are above-average byut not great jRPGs and I'll take it!

All first run copies come with the dlc costumes correct? Just pre-ordered at my local gamestop to make sure I got them

Note I actually don't own a vita yet, I just didn't want to miss out on exclusice costune dlc :X #partoftheproblem

I never like reading reviews on JRPG's. They always depress me.

I mostly ignore them for Tales games, when some of them say the battle systems are button mashers, it's really silly.

But I guess on default difficulty some of them can become that way (Abyss has no reason for you to go for FoF combos/chains for example on Normal difficulty)

OP is missing this review from Explosion. Can't wait for this to come out.

Edit:

Confirmed to be subtitled. Whether Mystic Artes are is unknown though.

Oh, that's awesome. I didn't knew it and I was wishing they did it. Do you know if the subtitled battle quotes are in multi 5 or English only? Loved them but the Xillia duo didn't have subs in them, at least in spanish. Not that I care, Ill put English if it's the only with rise subs.

Yeah, there is plenty of people that think that way. Still, for turn based games portable is awesome.you can grind while watching a series or something.

Have we gotten any news of Zestiria getting a Western release yet?

Or are we in another one of those situations where the publisher is 'waiting' to see the response, and are going to gauge whether or not they are going to bring it over based on the number of sales they get for this one?

I mean, as grateful as I am that we're at least getting one JRPG series over here in some consistent fashion, Tales really isn't the one that I would highlight as being the one I keep consistently on my radar (or even in my library...)

Zestiria was announced for a western release when they first announced it, which was, like, end of last year. Here's a link to the Playstation blog with that announcement.

It was confirmed to be localised ages ago. You should be more worried about Zestiria doing terrible, because most people have moved on to new consoles, which could make Baba go back to being early last gen-Baba.

Yes. A localized version of Zestiria was revealed just a day or so after the Japanese reveal. So hopefully June/July/August 2015.

Well, hopefully, he wakes the hell up and moves it over to PS4, especially after the large number of sales expected over the holidays..

Not many people in Japan have a PS4/XBONE. So it should do expected numbers there. I think we get Tales of games out of goodwill and not "this game sells well in the west".
