Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

if you didn't play the first and got so bored with the second you couldn't finish it's a tough call as this game is described as a combination between DAO and DAII in an open world with a lot of content. The upside is that it seems to be the game to get if you like RPG's, especially open world.

Well I loved Skyrim, all Mass Effects, and Fallout 3. The Witcher was ok to me. Never finished it.

Good luck finishing those before Inquisition hits. They're pretty massive games - especially the first one. Anyway, I recommend you to take that journey, regardless of whether the save game does anything ( as I have no idea ).

Just mentally prepare to play those two games until Christmas.

I actually beat both games when they first released on console, but since then bought them on PC, just never played them. Its been so damn long though that I don't even remember the story, so fuck it, I'm downloading now and will try to POWER through them this week. I also have the Awakening DLC which I never played. What are you thinking length wise for everything main story wise? 20-30 hrs per game? Ive been on a media blackout for this thing and only today started watching videos of Inquisition, damn it looks good. Hype is setting in.

Wow, I was expecting this game to be good, but not like this. I am super hyped now. This game needs to hurry up and come out.

Is anyone planning on replaying DA:O or DA2 leading up to Inq? I have both games on Origin and never played them on PC up to this point. Will the save game do anything?
Yep.
Finished Origins 2 weeks ago. Ignoring most side quests and only doing Leliana's personal quest took me about 16 hours.
On the final arc of DA2 right now so should be done by next week.

Save game won't do anything though no. You'll need to use Dragon Age Keep to edit your world state.
If you played them before just use Keep.

Yes, you can change his appearance.

My post had a link to mike Laidlaw's Twitter.

No, there would be a shitstorm.

We're all just scared that his comment was a classic example of saying something before they could actually ensure its implemented into the game.

We have no real confirmation its in the game. Just that they had full intentions to do as much.

EDIT: And Dawg saves the day. :)

Basically you need an actual screenshot to confirm. Have some faith. The tweet was made when they were already near completion. It's a trivial addition because it utilizes the same character creation at that beginning. You see what I'm getting at? There's no way it's not in.

I'm surprised by the reviews. This game was not on my radar at all and it seems to be the sleeper hit. Unlike some of the overhyped turds we have had such as Destiny, Watchdog's, TitanFall and AC Unity.

You can customize Hawke. HP_Wuvcraft just sent me a PM and I said no, but I was wrong. I had a brain fart and thought he meant if you can change armor etc like regular party members.

Yes, you can change his appearance.
I've read that, but things can change. I'm not calling Mike a liar or anything.

BASED DAWG.

Hyped through the fucking ROOF.

Hyped through the fucking roof? I'm hyped through the fucking WOOF

Honestly? Get it. Chances are it's the most likely contender for Game of the Year. There will be a lot to do. The issue is that you won't get some of the references to older titles and might have to do a bit of research on the lore as it isn't entirely newcomer friendly.

I saw in Jason Schreier's list of things to know for the game that even people who have played both games may want to brush up on political positions for each country and on tales such as Andraste. Might check out the wiki and refresh myself this weekend

I knew when Bioware took a step back and didn't rush a sequel that it would end up being good.

DAO spoilers.
Was there anyway to have the Warden live and Alistair become King in DAO? I'm trying to do it in the Keep but not sure if it's possible.

Yeah, with Dawg's confirmation of actually experiencing it in the game, we have out confirmation.

Honestly, I would have been more convinced by the tweet if it was phrased in a way that implied it was in rather than they intended to do as much.

My fears came largely from the lack of anything on the subject besides that tweet. All of them gone now, though.

Yes. Many combinations allow it to be possible. The decision to
make Alistair King and do the Dark Ritual to save the warden's life are independent of one another,
and those together would lead to that.

Anyone who was following the game closely (myself, Deified Data, etc) could have told you it was going to be amazing.

Ya, I was sort of leaning towards getting it. I appreciate your insight though. I will read up on the lore to see if I can get myself up to snuff. But damn I have so many games to play/finish. CoD campaign, Sunset Overdrive, Halo MCC, and now this. Should I complain or should I say finally? I'm thinking finally.

Still not sold on this game being Dragon Age: Origins quality much less Baldur's Gate 2 quality but it seems good enough to at least try when it comes out with the Origin refund policy.

From the game informer review:

Though you can technically activate an Origins-style top-down tactical camera, this view is unreliable at best, getting caught up on the environment and making it difficult to target enemies at different elevations.

I thought the tactical camera in DA2 and DA:O was already kinda buggy so I'm dissapointed they didn't do a better job with it in inquisition. That being said I hope it's not actually WORSE than those two games in this regard.

Oh man, I'm hyped now.

I loved Origins, but skipped 2. I've had a read up on the events so hopefully I'll be up to date, ish.

The weak plot doesn't necessarily worry me; Origins wasn't exactly amazing, but what was made it so good to invest in was the lore and the world building.

It's odd, after Origins I thought they had such awesome material around the Grey Wardens, the Blight and the Darkspawn. I wonder if they will dive back into all that.

There was no tactical camera in DA2. Only DA:O had a tactical camera and that was only on the PC I believe (I never played the console versions).

Exactly. BioWare did not shy away from showing off DA;I to the public.
The parts they wanted to show, that is. They didn't really show the tactical view stuck on ceilings, dumbed down tactics, PC version reaching only 50fps on max settings or the lack of attribute points.
