Yah it does seem like it's much better than Halo 4. For people that want that pure traditional Halo experience can continue to play MCC. After a few games of MCC (halo 2 mainly) i can say that honestly the game feels seriously dated (as it should). There's no way Halo could continue to be a big franchise if they don't introduce new more modern elements.
But Halo fans want a fantastic Halo game. Us looking for the silver lining in the unveiling of a new franchise entry is not a result of good stewardship. The pros who played it, especially those who traditionally speak their mind and dislike everything 343 did with Halo 4 (lxthul, ghandi, etc) like it quite a bit.
So I'm optimistic and will be even more optimistic after this vicious and passionate fanbase and Halo community takes a deep dive with the beta for 3 weeks.
We will get a fantastic arena shooter after all is said and done.

The pros always have something positive to say about a new Halo game after first playing it. They want Halo to succeed because they want to compete and win money in Halo. When the game is not so new and the game isn't doing so well they'll make a 180. I'm pretty sure they had positive opinions at first about Halo 4 and Reach. They will also go away from default Halo and have their own settings because there is a good chance that default settings won't be great for competitive play.
Honestly, if sprint wasn't in I would have a positive outlook on the game. I don't like what sprint does to the size of maps and strafing.

Has any one actually explained what they want that would qualify as a acceptable update to the series? Any of them actually elaborated on what's being defiled here?
This isn't true. I've listened to Ghandi and Lxthul shit on newer halos for years now mang. They've actually played it, it's not speculation.
Hey all, I made a quick mock-up of my ideal Halo 5 control scheme. If you like it, please RT it. I really want to push for this.

Well, for me, I don't want the Halo formula to be drastically altered. Change is good, but change for the sake of change isn't. Why have ADS if it's just a zoom that blocks the action? This isn't innovation. It has absolutely no benefit to the gameplay, and might even be detrimental to the experience. Sprint does nothing except make the maps bigger. Clamber seems like it would require major changes in how the maps are designed and seems pretty much useless since crouch jumping has a similar effect. The ground pound, charge, hover, and slide abilities don't really seem like Halo to me, but I'll have to see more of them.
That said there are some good changes that have been shown. Thrusters seems like it would compliment the existing mechanics, unlike Sprint. It adds a new level to strafing and can be used in combat, unlike Sprint. The new Forge palette looks amazing. The new features they added to Forge in MCC look fantastic. Spectator mode sounds great. Spartans talking to each other sounds like a neat idea. These are all good changes to me.
No one is saying there shouldn't be any change at all. However, change isn't always good. I don't want changes that are useless. More importantly, I want new features to be fun. Sprint isn't fun. ADS isn't fun. Changes also need to work with the Halo formula. Look at Halo 2 and 3. The gameplay is different enough that it feels fresh, but if you look at the designs of the maps, you can see that they still retain the simplicity of the originals. If you directly ported a map from CE into Halo 3, the gameplay wouldn't be different enough that the map wouldn't be enjoyable anymore. If you look at Halo 4, where Sprint is always on, the maps had to be much bigger to accommodate for it. Clamber seems like the vertical equivalent. I want changes that add to and compliment the Halo formula. Of course I want new Halo games to feel fresh, but they still need to retain Halo's identity, which I'm not so sure can be said of Halo 5.
I really like this mode (I think it's called Breakout?) - one life only, 2 minute rounds, no radar, focuses on teamwork). Sounds/looks so good! Really excited for the Beta!
Whether you're a Halo fan or not doesn't qualify you to state what is or isn't a Halo game. 343 decide what the fuck a Halo game is and that's that. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's rather tiresome hearing people cry "that's not Halo". Get over it.
343 have done the ultimate fan service with MCC. Halo 'purists' can play that if they want classic Halo. I'm happy for 343 to mix it up a bit and if I don't like it I'll stick to MCC. No drama.
Anyone else feel like the graphics don't feel like much of a step up over halo 4? Maybe its just becausr were still a year out
Pretty thoughtful, makes a lot of sense. I hope you and others like you show up to the beta and provide your feedback.
ugh the power weapons are constantly highlighted in game and the announcer calls out when they're due to respawn.
no thanks
On top of that, in the recent videos on Halo 5, it's quite obvious that automatic guns (SMG and Assault Rifle) gain accuracy when using ADS. You can see the reitcle contracts when in ADS leading to a smaller spread area for bullets. Gus also talks about this briefly in the Rooster Teeth multiplayer video.

Too big with Sprint? No.
Many have now for years. People want a Combat Evolved-like game with all the feature sets and customization of subsequent entries. Halo without the gimmicks and twists.Has any one actually explained what they want that would qualify as a acceptable update to the series? Any of them actually elaborated on what's being detailed here?
Thus the problem. Make the base movement faster it so I don't feel like I need to sprint, and sprint isn't needed. I just want some smaller maps. Midship remake is too big.
There's a game for people like you, it's called The Master Chief Collection.
But really, I can't wait to get my hands on this.
seriously though, can we talk about this

haven't seen a BR battle that crisp since Halo 2.
Too big with Sprint? No.
Uh, can anybody link me to a write-up about why sprint is supposedly so bad for Halo? Been noticing it being brought up a lot the past few Halo-related threads. I wanted it in since Halo 2, and was thrilled when it finally made it's way in Reach.
I probably missed it during Reach, but it seems like the anti-sprint movement picked up well into Halo 4 and all I'm seeing as a detractor is "bigger maps"... There's more to it, right?
Ground pound does seem like the only one out of place. Otherwise I think this is a clear step above 4
What kind of "drastic" changes? And I don't believe I've played any FPS that allows you to shoot while sprinting; why wouldn't that be a trade-off?To accommodate for Sprint, maps have to get larger, leading to drastic changes in map design. As a result of this, your base movement speed is much slower in comparison to Halo games without Sprint. You also can't do anything while sprinting, so it has a detrimental effect on combat.

Youtube said:Did 343 not fucking learn? This is the same fucking game as halo 4, except they added mantle and dash. lol good thing i watched this gameplay and am now going to avoid this sorry excuse for a game. its funny how mc collection will be their most successful release, and it's not even a game they created lmao"
for everyone complaining about sprint please QUIET yourselves. I'm playing MCC and it feels archaic without sprint. I try to constantly sprint out of frustration, it's something i don't think i can ever get used to playing without ever again.
