Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 10-16 | Frauds Among Us

I wish ASW would share their technology with VanillaWare. VanillaWare can let ASW add the Sorceress to GG Xrd as a trade.
>.>

I don't think Vanillaware would be interested in making a 2.5d title like Xrd considering their passion is 2d art. They even developed their own character editor in house. It would be interesting to see them do the artwork for a fighting game though, but I'm not sure if that's something they're interested in pursuing.

Is Combofiend turning into the NeoGAF logo?

He never did. The only FGC celebs who posted here were

Clockwork (who still posts, to his credit)
James Chen (posted for a day then scrammed)
Ultradavid (who is busy with IRL shit, I assume, to continue to post regularly)
Valle (only to advertise)
Jebaily (advertise)
Gootecks (?)
Wizard (sluts)
Watts (through his puppet account)

NerdJosh, Kuma, and Art I didn't add because they were on GAF before the FGC blew up.

Don't forget me.

600-man VF tourney. Kreygasm

Why is American so fail. =(

What should a VF tourney turnout in America be?
Going by the US tournaments I've played in, 600 people still wouldn't be enough to fill a top 8 with people who know a combo.
combos are only for hookers and fat people anyways

God damn snow.

How is a 64 man lobby going to work? That sounds crazy. People like Yams will never get to play. I'm wondering if I should run lobbies for it. Would only need one thing and that is a sexy ass picture of one character.

Just like they do in BBCP. You camp arcade machines and throw up the poop sign at people who don't want to play you.

Lobbies are giant rooms allowing for up to 64 players, however all those players do not queue up-- you're represented by a little avatar and can go around the lobby and sit down at arcade machines to play 1-on-1 matches against other users. You can text chat to everyone in the lobby. Arc games also offer your standard player matches with rooms up to 8 people, where you go queue up normally.

It's pretty much the same as the Global lobbies in Soul Calibur V, if you played that.

The only game that comes to mind with 64 man lobbies is KOF Maximum Impact on the OG XBox. Not that anyone ever played that online.

By all accounts, I expected XRD console to be a slapdash version of Arcade with limited online support, so by all means I am satisfied with terrible avatars.

What? Have you not been paying attention to BB since like CT?

This seems to be the case sadly for a lot of people.
I was talking to some GG OGs and they had no clue what these lobbies were and why I was sad when it was initially implied that they wouldn't be returning. They mostly had the same impression Kadey had.

I'm gonna assume you never attacked while moving forward though did you?
Nope, but I shouldn't have to if my strategy is winning the game. Or, at the very least, calling Elizabeth's Persona should count as "moving forward".

They already shared enough of their tech to the point where you only need capable 3D(and 2D) artists to replicate it. I expect to see more games doing what ASW did with GG.
Great! I'm excited to see Darkstalkers use it.

Ah, that's true. They love old fashioned stuff like painting, and I totally respect that.

I had to do a double take since the PC port came out this week as well.
She looks so slow and clunky. I'm incredibly disappointed.

Maybe keep a permanent 64 man lobby open for everyone? ;-) Though you'd never go for GAF only. :-(

Don't worry, when Capcom adds it 5 years later, people will know what it is.

Speaking of features, DBFC has one of the ones I liked from Aquapazza. In the training mode menu, you're able to switch your character or assist right there instead of exiting back out. Were there other fighters that had this? KI maybe?

I know not every game can add this, but it's pretty neat.

Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- probably cost ArcSys far less than BlazBlue Calamity Trigger.
Unreal is easy to work with, well established, and they're not working with sprites.

I mean, if you read The Art of BlazBlue, it's such a cumbersome process.

Making videogames is a cumbersome and expensive process regardless of art, engines or technical prowess. This is especially true in developed countries where employees earn higher wages. Beyond that we enter the realm of conjecture and assumptions that just fuels rumors.

You just raised my laptop's temperature to 90 degrees celsius.

Oh right, it was in development for a while, so that'd definitely add to it.
Still, the process for BlazBlue is not that big a departure, and I imagine with their relative lack of experience at the time probably did not help.

By no means am I saying Guilty Gear Xrd was an easy job, I just think BlazBlue would've required more out of a younger ArcSys.

Until then, people will continue complaining about fighting games not improving the online experience.
To be fair, the core experience for most FG series online (outside of Namco's games, to their credit) did not improve at all over the last generation. Capcom's efforts were a joke, whereas ArcSys did put in a fair amount of effort improving the featureset but the actual in-game experience never improved. NRS' games have always been bad (I want to see the receipts on MKX's online improvements) and Tecmo's games have been getting worse. I guess VF5:FS improved a bit on VF5... but who plays that? :p

This is pretty much how I feel. Makes much of the [recent] outrage at games slipping up in places hard to understand. Shit happens, devs who are usually already being overworked (most of the industry, really) catch the flak for bad management/overambitious game development and people want their lives to burn and companies to shutter.

Making games is hard, and probably more to the core of the issue, super risky no matter how much your game does or doesn't pander. And then there's this undercurrent of consumers assuming they know way more about game development than those making the games, which is pretty toxic to discussion.

A friend linked me this. I guess now people can play Smash in class lol

Kadey being tsundere again, it never fails to amuse me. I'll bop you once Xrd comes out scrub.
