Sonic Boom Boom: Review thread

Seriously, I'm glad this game exists.

The amounts of laughs I've gotten out of its GIFs, screenshots, speedruns, memes etc. is outstanding.
 
Sonic Generations is an excellent game, especially on PC at 60FPS, looks amazing, plays really well, largely avoids the franchise's baggage whilst celebrating the highlights, great OST.

Just posting this to help counterbalance the untrue "every modern Sonic game is shit" posts.

Sonic Boom is such a good game to watch on Twitch, though. It's going to be an amazing speedrun game once they're done with it. And the game is so bad that the ways it's broken are absolutely hilarious.

I hope they take solace in the fact they've increased the amount of laughter in the world considerably. I expect many more laughs this weekend when I actually get my hands on the game.

Rayman has starred in two of the best platformers of the past few years, so he's far from dead. In fact, he's one of the very few platforming heroes I can name that made a successful jump from 2D to 3D back in the 90's and is still relevant today.

Rayman 2 was really good.

The franchise is not Killing App that Ubisoft wants but... fuck them.
 
The worst thing is that the Sonic story should be so simple. In all their shitty reboot attempts, they never went back to the genesis era stories.

Robotnik captures animals -> transforms them to robots and destroy your shit -> get emeralds to beat the final boss -> add some knuckles twists -> the end.

Sonic satam was a masterpiece compared to that new cartoon.


Nobody can take that serie seriously after all the bad games.

Example, I havent liked Naughty dog's output since the beginning of last generations. I don't like anything they did past jak, in fact I kind of hate it. It doesn't interest me at all, but I have to acknowledge these are successful and people enjoy them. I cannot proclaim " naughty dog is dead". That isn't true, same for sonic or pac man, these things have very successful franchises, they just might not be for you anymore. Sonic TV show seems to have done very well, and odds are the sega sonic game being made will do well too and probably be alright.

I'm all for shitting on sonic, I am I shit on things I like. I'm planning on making a thread, in great detail talking about what the hell is wrong with sonic boom, from art style to the game, and what can be improved upon in future. I will be the louder propritor of sonic's faults.

That said, that book feels like this persecuted gamer " they took these things away from us " complex I hate. Hard Truth: Sonic, PacMan, Spyro are different now and make money. The others are probably dead because they didn't make enough money. Or in the case of jak, lack of ideas. Not everything can still exist and be the same. Move on and like new things

To be fair, there was also something about a Death Star with a mustache in 1/2 of the Genesis games.
 
ITT people who haven't played Sonic since the Mega Drive saying the series should die.

From Racing to Colours to Transformed to Generations to Lost World to this. Not a bad streak if you ask me. Even the downloadable titles weren't awful, just ok. Unleashed daytime was pretty great as well.

We've had more positives than negatives with the series of late, imo. This is a case of either shoddy dev team or a completely rushed deadline (more likely). I have some faith in whatever Sonic Runners turns out to be, considering it's what the Generations team have been working on for the past 3 years.

Er, no, last I checked it was associated with Sega's mobile division. As in iOS/Android. It's likely another game like Sonic Dash.

I am interested in what the Generations team has been cooking up, however.
 
I don't know why, but seeing all these awful reviews is just making me want this game more and more, to the point I'm genuinely excited to play it, in a perverse sort of way. I've always known I have terrible taste and a thing for bad games, but this is just confirming it for me.

Oh, my bad. Last I heard Runners was the new mainline PS4/Xbone game. Still, I have faith in what the Gen team cooks up. They're getting progressively better.
 
Anyone who expected more from this game or believes this is more than a rushed spinoff is delusional. The game was destined to suck the minute the silhouette of huge knuckles was revealed.


Sonic fer PS4/Xbone will be great.
