haven't played since 2010.

On a whim, seeing that ther'es new character models, and it's friday nigth and I have nothing to do.. I kinda crept into the battlenet page to see.. you know, see what's going on...

and saw "billing for this account is locked. please contact customer support".

I created a ticket, but is this common for long-dormant accounts? or does it mean someone hacked it or something?

I just got my physical CE today and was able to play on Icecrown earlier with no wait but it's about an 1100 queue now. Literally no chance of me playing my main on Moon Guard for the next week, I imagine, since I'm not going to sit in an hours long queue.

Just got disconnected from Nagrand server and now getting the character not found issue. I played a fair bit today so I'm not that disappointed, I probably needed a reason to log out anyway.

Weird that they aren't posting that on the forums, though. I appreciate the updates.

This was posted on reddit --and promptly deleted by the original commentator-- but a GM let loose that the numbers floating around for this expansion are larger than the Wrath of the Lich King launch which in itself had its own toothaches.

Of course take it all with a grain of salt but I can hazard a guess that it's probably true. I haven't seen a 1,000+ queue on Moon Guard since Wrath regardless of the hard server limitations by Blizzard. It's not surprising when you consider the content we are going through (Outland redux) and the universal praise for the introduction quest, the appreciation of both starter zones and their music, as well as that level 90 boost for anyone buying the expansion.

It definitely sucks for you guys that live in the North American timezone. I live on the east coast of Australia so I've been waking up at 7am, queue up in the thousands, and come back after lunch to jump in. From 4-5pm onwards there is no queue. It's great.

I never played any of the Warcraft RTSes and didn't play Cata or MoP but my friends say this expansion has some really great lore. Is there a cheat sheet to get me caught up on that lore somewhere?

I'll try and hunt down some stuff for you to read if you need it. It seems that a few people are interested in it.

That was how my account was, and it had been compromised. I called support, they had me send an image of my driver's license, and in about 10 minutes I had my account back. They even restored a bunch of items and let me keep the gold the farmer had (like 4k, I had about 500 gold when I last played around 2010).

Update 4:07 a.m. CET

We’re making preparations for the Europe maintenance beginning in just an hour, and along with hardware upgrades we will be implementing some of the performance improvements we’ve been testing. One of these is a fairly large change to the way the game world is run by the servers—expanding the phasing tech used for the Tanaan intro experience to the entire continent of Draenor. This will allow us to run multiple copies of Draenor simultaneously, spreading out server population, while attempting to keep guilds and parties within the same copy. We’re currently running tests of this tech on a few North American realms, and have found we’re able to raise realm capacity by a significant amount. We’ll continue to provide updates as we progress through the Europe maintenance, and prepare to apply the same changes on the Americas and Oceanic realms.

---

The phasing better work then.

Frostfire and Gorgrond look incredible. Some of the best environment design I've seen in WoW. And the music is pretty cool too. Already much better than shitty pandaria.

One day I will too will be able to play this game.

How could they have not known that they should have done in the first place.

Yeah let's do it for the intro zone, but that place where everyone and there fucking mother with their fucking garrisons that they'll keep coming to? Naw let's not.

Fuck blizzard why are you so fucking useless.

Gorgrond reminded me of Scholozar Basin from Wrath. I really only just zoned in so not sure how much it changes over the course of the zone.

I think it's safe to say there are a lot of returning players. Running around the world and realizing many of the other players were on another server was jarring at first. It seems odd to link them up in such a manner. May as well just merge them? It must make more sense from a technical/infrastructure perspective for Blizzard, I guess.

I hope this is the last unexpected maintenance they need to perform.

Entered the queue at 5709, sitting at 2906 four hours later.
I kinda don't even wanna play anymore. Especially knowing that the server will probably just die as soon as I get in... then its right back into the 6000+ queue.
/sigh

I liked pandaria... Man I always get this itch to play again every expansion but I know I'll get bored in few months.

My experience so far as an 8-5 Mon-Fri worker in Australia.

Thursday 4pm - Launch
Thursday 5pm - Get home and try play, get welcomed with the retarded click quests that are near impossible to complete. Stupid amount of lag.
Thursday 9pm - 5 quests complete and I have to go to bed.
Friday 5pm - Get home and try play, 3hour queue with planned maintenace at 9pm-1am. No point queueing. Stay up doing other things till 1am, maintenance extends till 3am so I go to bed.
Saturday 8:30am - Jump in queue.
Saturday 1pm(now) - Still in same queue, position 168.

Top it off with another maitnenace tonight at 9pm-1am assuming doesn't get extended again.

It has definitely reached unacceptable levels after a couple days of 3-7 hour queues combined with crashes. I expect they will refund a day or two but overall it is super disappointing.

Proudmoore here

Logged into the game after I got home from work ~6:30pm EST.
It is now 12:30am EST and I am 839 in queue with at least another hour expected.

I was able to leave my house, go out with friends for dinner, play several hours of PS4 and still come back to a queue. This launch is the worst I've ever seen.

Yep, if tomorrow isn't some miracle fix they are going to have to issue a major apology/month of game time.

40 minutes in Queue.

Character Not Found.

:O

There's no definite factor for this right? Cause I had that earlier today, then after it was fine, then I logged out in Gorgrond in a safe, public place, and here we are back again. T_T

I don't believe there is any specific factor from what I read and experienced. I just resubbed after a year and a half, and I was getting the same error across every character I tried, across zones from every prior expansion, and a brand new character.

All 11 of my characters are on MG, so I'm screwed for now. It's not like I don't have other things to play right now, but I was really hoping to get some leveling in this weekend.

Some more screenshots to satiate your desire to explore Draenor, since we can't login:

I can't wait to see what was going on at Shattrath, it looked like a siege of some sort. (I went there before the story asked me to)

Yes I believe there is a practice in place to prevent inactive accounts from making fraud purchases if they are hacked.

When was the last time Queue was this bad? I admit I really stopped playing after Wrath, but I don't remember Queues since like wow first launched.

Nah, I didn't use mine for almost 2 years and it was just Frozen like normal.

They have never been this bad, ever. This isn't just high pop servers it is every server. Blizzard 100% screwed up.

Have they been trimming servers, I know the sub base is down, and last time I played my old server Durotan was pretty much empty.

Not sure.

The issue though has to do with increased people in the game world. Free level 90 boost when you buy WoD, all of those characters get dumped directly into the expansion. Garrisons.

I think everyone expected some longer Q's, a bit of lag, you know the typical crap. This though is just them dropping the ball massively. We are about to enter 48hrs of WoD dropping and you still cannot even get in the game. I got home at around 7pm, its midnight and I'm still in Q, still have another hour or two before I can get in. 7hr Q time to play is just absurd, which leads to people doing things to remain in game when they are actually afk.

Position in Q when I got home was around 4500, in the 5 hours I've been in Q I have dropped down to 1216. Yah.
