Dragon Age: Inquisition |OT| As the Blight fades, BioWare returns

I can't believe it's been 2.5 years since Mass Effect 3. I've missed talking to companions and getting to know them. Dragon Age has always been more dangerous when it comes to companions, too, which I like. Much easier to piss them off, and in general they have a mind and will of their own. I suspect a couple twists coming our way like Isabela and the Tome.

I love Mass Effect 3.

I lost Isabela my first DA2 playthrough and flipped when I found out she wasn't returning, haha. Still, it's good to know that what you do actually has an impact on the companions. It makes keeping them all (I hope) feel that much better.

What are you guys going to play first? Thinking between Mage and Dual Wielding.

Mage for sure. They're the coolest.

I'm asking for GAF to make a choice for me.

I vote Larius.

Well, Frostbite use heavy compression, I think. I'm mostly hoping issues like the mouse losing focus is fixed.

Shame that unlocking the 30 fps limit during cutscenes is apparently not as simple.

They synced their dialogue animation to framerate for some damn reason, and that would take a massive rewrite. Damn shame. Why the hell did they do that? No idea. I know Kojima Productions did the same with MGS5. At least they synced it to 60 frames.

Hmm,I'd double check your Keep before playing folks, I just did and for some reason my save had turned me into a male dwarf Warden in DA:O. I think it happened when messing with the Ozraggar section (couldn't remember some of that stuff so was tweaking things) which has some ties to that starter origin, and usually it tells you when you change things that it will change something else, but it didn't tell me.

I only played Archer class briefly, and found it was harder to get into then Mage. Granted, I think it's a class that opens up later on. But Mage was really rewarding right away. I'm kicking myself I didn't get Dual Wielding in there during my 6 hour trial. Because it's the other class I actually was considering.

For anyone who's unfamiliar with using VPN's to unlock games early, I found this guide very helpful. Just tried it now to confirm the 7AM PST unlock time with a Korean server.

I usually play a class that I think fits well with the characters I think I'll like. Given I know I love Varric and probably like Sera, that's sort of made archery redundant to me, and I can always switch to them. So warrior or mage. I dig Iron Bull and Vivienne, not sure about the rest yet. Played mages in both past games so leaning that way but might want a change.

We should post great scenes from the first two games.

This was definitely one of the most powerful from DAO. The betrayal of Loghain and the fall of Ostagar: Duncan went out like a Boss

Lol, you people are making me want to play through DA:O a third time. I love how, in the original game, the main character is simply one Grey Warden among many. Inquisition trailers had me seriously eye-rolling when it became apparent that your character is the glowy-handed 'chosen one.' Maybe someday RPGs will grow past that trope.

Only game I've played where being an archer was fun as ever living shit is Dragon's Dogma.

Wonder if I should play DA:O first or skip directly to this.

DAII is more important in the long-run for this game. If you play DAI before DAO you might get slightly spoiled and then would have to manually affect the world state from what you had in DAI. So up to you. If you are planning in playing DAO eventually might as well do it now.

DAO is entirely about being 'the special'. If anything DAII is less tropey as it isn't about saving the world or fighting the ultimate evil. It's the story of the effect of one man and his ever growing importance in a city, and how he played a part in setting up a chain of events.

Random question. Whats the lock picking like in this game?

Will I need a super rogue in my party at all times like DA:O? (which wasnt a issue since I played City Elf rogue)

Or is it just a mini game and class wont matter.

I think you need a rogue, but I don't think there's a minigame. In a stream I saw the inquisitor click on something locked, and Varric ran over to it and fiddled with it, and it opened.

Thanks Shinobi for that awesome OT, I've waited so long for this Game and now it's about to happen. Preload finished and waiting for Thursday.

I find it rather weird that there is no reference to the Orlesian Warden-Commander in the Keep at all. I wonder if they'd just erase them completely from the narrative.

You can stealth into a group, and set up a nice ambush, but no you're not going be Solid Snake at any point. You can definitely disengage from fights, or just avoid fights if you seem em coming. Only fight when you want in the open world. As for me, I will be killing everything in sight. Yes, the little cute fennec foxes too.
BioWare has turned stealth into a combat mechanic only (aggro management / damange enhancement). You can't use it to slip past encounters (at least not mechanically, it might be scripted into a quest somewhere.)

This OT is worthy!
Thanks peeps, appreciate it.

Not sure, but I have a tendency to roleplay bald female, native american warrior archetypes.

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure that
if you're talking about the DLC character, that in the DLC section of DAO you can choose whether that character was your warden from before or the new one

Great looking OT, dig the Star Wars themed poster!

Just finished replaying DA:O yesterday and it was even better than I remembered. Awesome cast of characters and superb dialougue. The amount of decisions you can make and the way they all change up the story is pretty crazy. The ending is perfect, everything from the landsmeet to the summaries. Not to forget the music, I could sit and listen to the title screen theme all day.
That being said I kind of hurried through the last bits just so I could finish it before DA:I and felt myself starting to get burned out. I was going to play through awakening as well but not sure anymore, it's only 16-18 hours though so I could probably finish it within the week.

Looking forward to getting into this game, from everything I've read it looks to be just as amazing as DA:O.

He's in the game, might be a short cameo though. Check BSN for more on it if you want, but spoilers galore over there, so watch out.

Personally from a role playing perspective, I really like the idea of not being super familiar with everything that happened in the first 2 games. After all, the DA:I protagonist is a new character to the series, so it makes sense she wouldn't know every fine detail of what happened during DA:O and DA2, especially some of the more minor events. I'd like to think her advisers and party members who were also present during those events filled her in on the important details, but as to the rest, I am essentially approaching the choices the same as my character; i.e. someone new to the story.

Now I did actually play DA:O and some of DA 2, but it's been so long that I forgot most of what happened in those games. I read Ralemont's thread and the Kotaku guide to re-orient myself with the lore and basic plot of the first 2 games (along with making some choices in DA Keep), so I hope I can enjoy the game's story based on that.

Alright, fuck it. Haven't played a Bioware RPG since Neverwinter Nights and I've actually been mostly ignoring western RPGs for the longest time, but it's time to return and DA:I sounds too good to pass up. Count me in, let's do this! Dalish Elf Tempest Rogue reporting in!

It's just a Rogue thing. That first 15 gameplay demo they did with commentary from the director had a part where Sera unlocks a door for you, if I recall.

Eliminating other NPCs, including wildlife, will also have an effect on gameplay in Inquisition. The player will have the ability to forage or hunt an area into scarcity, which will
allow other species of plants and animals to proliferate instead. Furthermore, clearing an area of intelligent enemies like bandits or dragons will impact the locale greatly.
Each dragon is unique from a gameplay standpoint.

This is awesome! How deep is this? I also love the idea of a stronghold... is the customization/personalization unique like the character creator? Is it open ended personalization, or do we build towards an ultimate stronghold?

Is the area of the stronghold affected by the way in which we eliminate npcs, wildlife, etc? I love this idea of having this "home" and huge backyard that is dynamically changing depending on what I do!

going Mage for the same reason I went mage in Dragon Age 2:

it looks flashy as shit. Sorry, im shallow.

Actually I played Mage in DA1 also, but that was full blown healer, wasnt very flashy :/

You're right, I guess not having played DA:O in years gave me a rose-tinted perspective.

Think I'll reinstall and refresh myself.

Does this run decently on the PS3? I never got around to playing the final version, and now I'm kind of itching to give it a try.

Naw, I posted here because I expected and failed to find the option to begin with.

Oh that's nice. But "he"? Boo.
Me no touch BSN spoiler-spoilery.

I'm going female human warrior but I'm not sure what specialization I want to do yet. I have so many characters planned in my mind and I know I'm going to be doing a lot of playthroughs so I figured I'd go with my typical DA starting choice and pick warrior first. Still, like other DA games I love switching and playing companions a lot so I don't think it matters too much! I'm sure I'll enjoy (recklessly) running into a battle as a warrior then backing the fuck out into tactical/Solas or Vivienne if shit goes down lmao.

DA:I is interesting because there is a genuine mystery around how and where your character got his or her power.

Genuinely not knowing whether you have been chosen by God or not sets up a lot of interesting dialogue and drama, and while I'm sure it's been done, it makes the "You're the only person in the world with these powers!" trope a lot more fresh and interesting.

ya'll motherfuckers just can't wait

The only remaining questions left for me are whether to play on hard or nightmare, and whether to have FF on or off.

FF doesn't seem to be designed around so I'm inclined to leave it off. Hard or nightmare may just require some testing.

I'm tempted to try FF on as there are some abilities that I think would synergize well with it. For example Knight Enchanter's Fade Cloak or whatever that makes them incorporeal for ~3 seconds...would feel so good to activate that, toss down a huge AOE, then pop back in and keep lightsabering mofos.

I think I'll start with Hard FF On and see if it's frustrating or feels rewarding.
