Does Keitaro still run KTAR?

How did this one turn out to be such a fucking shambles?

I mean, did they actually stream only 4 games of Melee? What the fuck?

Also, weren't people also complaining about the seeding for smash 4 singles? Get your shit together Keitaro.

Milk, I gotta go. I really want to play you more. That Rosalina positioning is wild. I felt like I could handle it better with Pit, but on top of my own error, I had my cousin pausing on the gamepad mid match to deal with.

Count and Milk, critiques pls.

The tier whoring in Smash is probably the worst I've seen for FG's tbh. Unless the lower tier characters are totally unviable/Deejay tier.

Watching that tourny it felt like every other match had Diddy or Sheik.

true....I also think this "super good balance" is gonna fall apart as the metagame develops

yes

someone tried to run too much shit in one day on top of poor management, and then, well....

that happens (plus zero Project M)

I just love the way the casual Smash audience throws out terms like this only for things like Metaknight and Fox to happen when people go in over time. You'd think they'd learn that you need time to find the bustedness/establish character strengths unless they were glaringly obvious.

Then again, Nintendo being Nintendo could always go nuts with balance patches.

Hey they were streaming MvC2 yesterday.

Well played.

Yo tell me about it. I'm trying to understand what's going on just like you

My Day 3 understanding of the game isn't at a level that could offer you advice, aside from stop suiciding lol

Also it doesn't help that they fucked up the c-stick implementation when it's been fine as is for two games in a row.

Sakurai doesn't seem to follow the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it rule" a lot...

Remove momentum conservation in a physics-based platform fighter because...
Remove L-Cancelling without replacing it with something easier or whatever because...
Completely change CStick implementation because...
Perfect Shield no longer reflects projectiles back at your opponent because...
Massively reduce shieldstun because...

How did they change the C-Stick for Smash? I was contemplating on a getting a Wii U or a PS4 because I wanted smash or xrd (also some games down the line like X and other things I have missed). I would like to get it eventually but I'm in no hurry.

The C-Stick now lets you charge smashes, so the game now ignores inputs on the left stick whilst the C-Stick is being used, even when it's being used it the air, which fucks up your ability to space aerials as accurately as you used to be able to in previous games.

You can set the CStick to only do tilts and not smash attacks, but it's pretty janky I hear and you then lose the ability to do quick smashes.

Just popping in here to lament that nobody cares about UK tournaments again. :(

Yesterday was 3sports, a big one day event in North East England. I went and had a blast. I was sooooooooooooooooo clooooooooooooose to knocking out Blaydon Ryu - hands down one of the best players in the country. I was being so smart but screwed up a jump-in fireball punish thanks to St.HP having bad range. :(

Next month, just before Christmas on the 20th, is a Meltdown tournament in London. Louffy will be there! Big festive rumble. :D I am going down with the Liverpool crew.

It will always be this way, we mostly suck.

I'm going to the first Smash 4 WiiU tournament in Manchester on December 6th.

It should hopefully be a bigger turnout than the previous tournament I went to, even though that was in London (though that was probably due to the fact that it was MK9).

Thanks. Watching the video, that does look really janky. I'm pretty sure someone like Sakurai would have noticed something like this, I wonder why he would leave it like that. It just hurts the movement flow for casual and competitive players alike. The workaround sounds like it has some awkward penalties too, like some weird diagonals.

This is 100% wrong. The UK has many, many good players. The issue is that there's such a huge spotlight on the US. IMO the US's average tournament player is weaker than the UK's - we punch above our weight.

Only way to fix that is a regular London weekly again. London's players are amazing but are not given a spotlight. That's mostly down to London being garbage for sensible venues.

France too, by the way. No attention on their tournaments, but they're amazing.

At this point it's either your tournament is streamed by Armshouse and you'll get 500-2000 views, or it's streamed on another channel and you will not hit 100 views.

Was it a USF4 tourney? If yes then that makes sense, this is a Smash thread :p

Eh, I guess, the MK9 scene atleast has/(had?) some amazing players, but there's just no hype around us really and our events seem relatively small.

That's just what I think anyway, I'm no expert on the UK FGC honestly, I think atleast the UK Smash streams are generally of a lower quality than the average US one as well, they jut look like amateur hour stuff from the few that I've seen.

That's an issue with the fact that it's harder to get competitively good when the hotspot for competition in Europe is Denmark!

Compare the UK in Marvel to the UK in SF4. Amazing SF4 players, but the Marvel players struggle to get any real competiton as the online is total garbage.

Smash 4 will help out the scene a lot. Solid online does wonders.

There's a surprisingly large smash community (to me it was, anyway) in the UK going off of Facebook groups, but it's quite sparse which is why I have to get a train down to Manchester, don't think I can even get to the weeklies due to how out of the way it is coupled with my work schedule.

I think there's only one other guy in Blackpool that plays Smash and he plays Melee whereas I play PM.

I'd like Smash 4 to change that... but it's not exactly the Smash game I want to really hit it off.

As I said, there's always HoG. Mark is having a tournament for Smash 4 on launch day so...lesss gooo!

where can i get more info about this meltdown tournament? would like to share this with my uni's fgc.

Played Smash for like 12 hours with some peeps at a friend's house yesterday lol

Robin is da bes. Really suits me.

Wish i could play it at my own house

Yeah, you're being smart about it. I made a similar comment earlier this month. If you treat Smash WiiU like a video game - it's great. If you treat it like a fighting game - it's awful.
I find neutral game janky in this. It's like it encourages spot dodging and rolling really hard instead of playing a proper constant spacing game with regular movement and normals. Play any person and you'll see them throw out an aerial/space/jab, and then roll backwards/spot dodge if it's shielded. I feel like the game goes back to a "do over" instead of a footsie game (which Brawl actually had). If the opponent read your roll and attempts a punish, then it becomes mash or roll again. While Brawl wasn't my preferred Smash and it was very floaty, it had a pretty good spacing game with aerials I thought.

It's a little hard to explain why it makes it encourage the game to play this way, but it feels like it's a number of things just adding up.

Besides the awful change to projectiles finishing up their animation after landing, I'm quite tolerant of the movement in this game besides maybe a couple of things. I just find neutral the biggest gripe right now.

Played Smash 4 for a few hours yesterday and found it fun...but I think Project M has really spoiled me. Hard to go back to mainline smash games after it.

You also can't angle angle-able(?) tilts with the C-Stick set to tilts.

Like, if you do a diagonal-up input for an FTilt angled upwards, you'll instead get a jab, because diagonal inputs = neutral inputs for some reason.

I don't know how they fucked it up so badly.

is Lucas in this game?

sure

If you read my post above, Dash Dancing alone would make this game playable for me. The problem with using the term "Dash Dancing" is that immediate red flags go up with certain types of people.

"Dur Meleef4gz are so whiney go play ur old gmae."

F judging types :P Show them something, their primary evaluation function sorts stuff as Good or Bad, and new is good plus they themselves enjoy it => the obvious happens.

Some people also think people are far more alike than they really are.

I actually saw your post after mine went up and I pretty much agree with it. Smash (at least to me) was the most immediately interesting fighting game I've ever played from a long time ago due to the level of control you had on your characters in a match. I don't know when all of this started getting exchanged for production values and decreasing control over characters because of whatever reason but it's really making me sad, especially when this entry is so fucking gorgeous to look at and has really outdone itself in how much Nintendo history is moving and on display in any single second of play.

Every time I see someone run forward, turn around and get put in that long "hold on sonny, I'm comin'!" animation instead of darting back at them or I see a down throw - up air combo string that stops at that because you can't move fast enough in air to link the fair, I just feel all =/

Yeah before I started the "ptw life" or whatever, I played a ton of Smash when Melee came out. Completely casually, but it's really left an impression in my gaming tastes where I love fighters with strong, freeform movement. KOF13, UNIEL feel fantastic. ST Claw was surprisingly nice. GG/3S are preferred over SF4, and so on. Pretty much due to the feel of movement.

KOF13 much? People tier whore a ton in that game even though it's not very necessary.

@Rhapsody
That summon~buttons style for doing empty summon with proper buttons held down was so much more natural than poon's method <3

One step closer to GG character crisis being solved, maybe.
