Marth face is low quality gashapon quality. But it seems he has the same face for all figures. Not a biggie.

The way they packaged him sucks tho. Why make the inner packaging plastic base so high up that it bends the sword if it's out of place? If they simply left it open, the warping sword wouldn't be such a large issue.

Now that the precedent's been set, that's only the beginning.

For some reason, I'm reminded of Tokyo Gore Police...
Awesome.

I was at a wedding for most of the weekend but I was able to take a trip to Nintendo World yesterday after I got back into town.

First off, Nintendo World was fully stocked in every figure. I simply don't believe than any of these are going to become rare. I just don't see it happening.

My main goal was/is to get Amiibos with the best paint jobs possible. I scrutinized dozens of them of the various figures I was looking for. I ended up leaving with 3. Here are some thoughts/observations:

Wii Fit Trainer: A simple figure, but unfortunately this just makes the defects stand out more to me. A number of them had weird problems with the waistline, but most of them looked really good. WFT is my main, so I had to get this.

Marth: The face doesn't have much detail, but most of them looked ok. The main thing I was watching for with him was the sword (and the scabbard). Some had straight swords, some had straight scabbards, but none of them had a perfect mic. There were also weird paint discrepancies all around, specifically the boots. I ended up finding one that I was happy with, and it is a big improvement over the FE trading figure that I have currently.

Link: For all the talk the yellow support, I think the figures actually look awesome. Like with Marth, I mainly focused on the sword and scabbard. After looking at ~12 of them I found one I was happy with.

Samus: Probably the best looking figure. Really cool. I didn't end up getting one of the ones that they had because the details in the neon-green inlays and brown inlays were kind of all over the place. I decided to hold out for a better one.

Fox: Another really cool looking figure. Each of these seemed to look 95% perfect, but all of the ones that they had all seemed to have at least one annoying defect. Again, really cool. I hope I don't have to eventually settle for one that isn't as good as it could be.

Donkey Kong: Most looked great, though there were a number with weird paint defects around the forehead. I found one that I was happy with, but then noticed a weird slash like mark on its jaw. I'll check back for this one later.

Mario: Most of them look excellent. I was able to get a satisfactory one with little effort, but when I was at the register I noticed that the "M" on his cap was misaligned. I'm sure I won't have any trouble picking up another one later.

/I don't know if I am going to put this much effort into shopping for these in the future, but it was fun to go through the exercise. I'm almost certainly holding these to too high a standard. Oh well, at least I know that the ones I bought are in the upper tier in quality of what it is possible to get with these figures.

I know of that method but does it work for Marth? Maybe I'll check some local stores and see if they have it with straight sword first.

I noticed some other Gaffers found him without a defect.

Don't have him so I haven't don't it yet, but unless the sword is ultra hard brittle plastic(which I am pretty sure it isn't) it will work.
Been doing it on figures for years.

Got me a Samus, which is a fantastic looking figure, and a Link which also looks great aside from the pee-stand a bit of a derpy face. Really like them.

I'll probably end up getting a bunch but I'm not gonna try to collect them all.

I actually had zero intention on getting these things, but when I picked up my pre-ordered copy of Smash from Best Buy on friday, I made the mistake of checking out the amiibo display and thought "just one couldn't hurt." I picked Fox, and then it just snowballed; now it's Monday and I have nearly half the set (Mario, Villager, Fox, Samus, and Marth). Now I have to get them all. :(

Nice. This piece in particular is very interesting to me:

[QUOTE}Amiibo most emulate their owner roughly between level 30-40. If you want an Amiibo to fight like a friend, having the Amiibo play with your friend until roughly those levels. You an keep them at lower levels by not saving the Amiibo between each round. But if you want to get better at fighting a certain characters with Amiibos, fighting higher level Amiibos is best as they alter their play style to counter you at higher levels, meaning that will be your most difficult opponent.[/QUOTE]

Why the hell isn't this aspect of it getting any attention here? The whole in game mechanic is extremely intriguing. The figures themselves are cool, but stuff like this is simply amazing. I mean seriously? I'm pretty baffled at how little attention this stuff is getting here.

I mean has any other game ever had a mechanic where the AI learns and develops from how you play against it to such an extent?

Yesterday you were talking about them having some wasted potential. Yet, I must say I'm quite intrigued by them.

So can Amiibos still learn stuff at level 50? My Link is 50 but he's played too much FFA and team battle against other computers to be super effective in 1v1. He's still good, he beats me frequently, but he has strange strategies.

Yeah, because the Amiibos literally do more damage when they get to level 50. It gives them a straight physical buff that a normal character wouldn't have, even if you don't feed the Amiibo. That's a huge bummer for me. Huge...

Doesn't change the fact that the AI here is extremely interesting. I'm seeing quite a bit of complaints on the buff thing so hopefully they add an option to normalize their damage in the future.

And i'm probably going to order a Fox one of Amazon today. As huge of a bummer as that is, it still doesn't justify not experimenting with that AI.

Awesome. I've hoped/suspected that it might go something like this, which is why I haven't used my amiibos at all yet. I didn't play the 3DS version, so I'm still learning how this version of Smash works and learning all of the characters. I can't teach an amiibo anything if I don't really know what I'm doing myself.

You people that opened you boxes as savages! It packaging looks so nice, I don't even want to open them yet.

I'm not a collector and even I wanted to keep them in their boxes because the box is really nice. But, I want to use them more, so I opened them all.

You're getting the Fox Amiibo too?

Picked up the Pikachu one yesterday. I had zero interest in these leading up to launch. But after seeing them at the store and how good they looked, I couldn't resist. I'll probably get a couple more when they release more characters.

You got me, Nintendo. You got me.

I'm surprised to see that since I couldn't seem to get something like that to really happen with Peach. I was attempting to get some sort of weird distinctive behavior ingrained like running away from fights a lot and crouching, but it didn't work.

I could imagine some sort of frequency-of-behavior or frequency-of-move values stored though. Someone already scanned an Amiibo with a phone, but I guess no one has dumped the entire 540 or 504 or whatever bytes of one yet?

Literally just bought one on Amazon... It said I got FREE SAME DAY shipping if I ordered within 3 hours... Holy crap I couldn't pass that up. Dang... I don't even have a Wii U yet lmao (I'm getting one on either black friday or cyber monday though.)

The ones I REALLY want are Lucario and Greninja, but they're not out yet so... Fox it is.

My Link is pretty good so far....but he likes to spam Up B spinning attack, even with nobody around and he's on the ground lol. I'd think if he was really learning from me he would be doing more running attacks (cpt falcon shoulder etc...) but he is a decent item grabber like me.

From what I've been hearing, they seem to mostly learn by countering you, not by copying you. Although apparently some people have gotten Amiibos to copy their combos. Definitely not saying that copying you doesn't play a part, but just form what I've heard, the main way they seem to learn is from learning how to fight against you.

I really doubt that is anything more than people seeing what they want to see, given how many false alarms we've already had...

Believe. What other false alarms are you talking about exactly? I didn't keep up too much with smash beforehand... I've seen a lot of different anecdotes on this. I've seen videos of amiibos in action. One 4 stocked a level 9 CPU without dying once. We don't know exactly how it works, but they seem pretty promising so far.

Seriously, believe

So there's no way you can sync your amiibos through the box right? Sign, I guess I have to open one of them then.

I didn't try it, but there is a piece of foil right under the stand on the packaging which I'm assuming is there to block any connection through the box. It's worth opening one up though, as it is a surprising amount of fun playing around with them in Smash. Not sure how long the novelty will last, but it's neat for now.

I have actually only played with my FP/amiibo on a team (usually 2v2v2v2 in 8 man smash) so who knows what he's actually learning haha.

You do realize level 50 amiibos get boosted attack, right?

Are you guys keeping your Amiibos on their boxes or you just don't care about it? Haha I still have my Samus Amiibo unopened. I just love the way it's packaged but I also want to test it in dem Smash and MK8!

Gonna open them. They aren't rare or anything. Even the hard to find ones will be restocked on Amazon soon.
