Amiibo Discussion Thread

It's still possible some can become rare if Nintendo does a reissue that changes the stands to clear or something. But you can go buy out the lot then. I just get memories of a friend with tons of Kenner StarWars figures that his parents made him keep in boxes on his wall. Drove me crazy just seeing them sitting there waiting to be played with.

Also, I doubt the in-box price will vary significantly even for rare ones if it's over-speculated. Ultimately what will matter is the figure condition.

You know what would be a money maker for Nintendo? If those "mini-Amiibo" (supposedly smaller, cheaper amiibos, with the same functionality) were bundled with Happy Meals.

Brats would get the toys, find out that they are like those Skylanders toys, and then pester their moms for Wii Us & "Nintendolanders" games.

The perfect trojan horse to recapture the 5-12 year old market.

My Target was picked clean of Link and Samus. Only 2 of Marth, his face isn't that bad in person, and the sword wasn't bent on this one so I grabbed it. They had a ton of Mario and Villager.

I'm going to get Link, Samus, Shulk, Ike and Marth. Probably won't bother with the rest. Going to try another store today to see If I can find Link and Samus.

Saw this one at Wal-Mart.

WTF WFT?

You do realize level 50 amiibos get boosted attack, right?

Yeah, because the Amiibos literally do more damage when they get to level 50. It gives them a straight physical buff that a normal character wouldn't have, even if you don't feed the Amiibo. That's a huge bummer for me. Huge...

Doesn't change the fact that the AI here is extremely interesting. I'm seeing quite a bit of complaints on the buff thing so hopefully they add an option to normalize their damage in the future.

And i'm probably going to order a Fox one of Amazon today. As huge of a bummer as that is, it still doesn' justify not experimenting with that AI.
.

My amiibo is kicking my ass... I know I suck at Smash, but having the yoshi amiibo you raised beating the crap out of you to remind you of the fact really stings

Well...got all of wave 1 through gifts/buying the rest on my own. Was given a Marth with a bent sword but found another that looked better so now I have one of each amiibo still in package to satiate the collector in me and an extra Samus and Marth for dickin' around.

Nintendo is capitalizing on my issues.

Went to target to pick up Samus and saw 3 Marths. Picked it up and now have two boxed ones....will admit totally waiting to see what the prices on ebay look like after BF

How much do you think Nintendo is making on each amiibo sale? I wonder if this will have a real impact financially for them.

1$ on the NFC chip.
1-2$ on retailer shelf space.
???$ on the plastics.

Depends on how much the plastics+assembly end up costing them in the end.

after a certain level it seems many people get their asses kicked by amiibo, I wouldn't worry too much. I can't beat my level 45 kirby.

- Amiibo figurine + NFC Technology + packaging, shipping & handling costs to retailers = 5-6$
- Retailer cut = 2$ per figure

Essentially, Nintendo should have 35-40% margins on amiibo toy line.

since they're producing a bajillion of them and it's nintendo (who is known to make things profitable as possible up front) I would imagine there's a pretty fatty profit margin on them. I'd be surprised if there wasn't.

Just got my Link. If I have one complaint, it's the pose of the character - his head is tilted downward so you can't see his face unless the figure is right at eye-level. Normally I'd say it was to hide a sub-par paint job, but he looks perfectly fine. Other than that nit-pick, it looks great.

Had some friends over and we did a lot of 6 and 8 man Smash. My WFT amiibo went from being easy kills to infuriating everyone. It was fun to watch the transformation.

This thread has convinced me to get at least one Amiibo when they release Friday. Might have to go to my store really early to try and nab a good Villager and/or Marth. Thankfully, nothing from the second or third waves interests me (though Dedede's Amiibo in that one promotional picture looked really good), so that's saving some money from my wallet

I hope the (female) Robin Amiibo ends up looking good; it's the one Amiibo I'm really looking forward to

Snagged a Villager at Wal-Mart. The few places I've seen have had a decent selection. Haven't seen a Marth which is too bad because it's one of the mains of a group of friends who used to play. When I get Smash I'll likely try to get the characters we use the most. Not sure if that makes sense or not.

I'm already seeing people trying to ask outrageous prices on ebay smh. Are these things going to be worth anything more than msrp?

Mine are all over level 40 and I can't contend with them anymore :(

Makes me regret training them, all the last place finishes sting.
So I lost my Samus amiibo

I literally have no idea where she is, this is weird.
Where is your Villager? That's the best place to start with suspects.

Went to another store, they had 3 Samus ones, I picked the best. And ugh, no Link. Thankfully I asked the employee and she gave up the one she was holding for herself. I said she didn't have to do that, but she insisted I take it. It does have a slight bent sword, but it doesn't bother me that much. I think the gold pole is more distracting than that.

I now own Link, Samus and Marth. Shulk and Ike come out next year.

How big is the thirst for these?

I have all of them pre ordered but considering I have a new 3ds, Pokemon and GC controllers are there any I could get at a later date?

What have been the hardest to get for you guys?

I bought Mario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi on Friday and I'm trying to force myself to not buy the rest of the available ones. I'm really happy with the build quality on all of them, though. Yoshi's paint lines could be a little better but Mario and DK are top-notch. All-in-all, they look pretty great for $10.39 toys!
Hooray for 20% off with GCU!

Check the vents. She's probably in ball form.

Love when Altano shows up to make jokes!

I want to say there is demand for them, maybe its just the holidays or that smash bros. just came out, but when I first went to Target they didn't have Link or Samus at all. I picked up the 2nd to last Marth they had. They did have a bunch of villagers which I thought was odd, I thought he was the limited one.

The 2nd store I went had Samus, but again no Link. The employee sold me hers. :P I think everyone is buying Link at least.

let me get this straight:

they don't level up thanks to your skills, it's just a matter of time for them to get to level 50?

I run a mean donkey kong, and trained my DK amiibo 1 on 1 for awhile. Got him to level 50 and he was nuts. Then I started feeding him equipment. He's too fast, too strong, and too smart to beat with anyone but my mains. He 5-stocked me with me as Dedede, i could only get him to 115%, but then he headbutted me into the ground and escaped to eat a bunch of health items. I taught him to do that. He loves items.

I've created a monster, and it made me want all of the amiibo to do the same

Not a fan of the more intricate Amiibos. Samus looks kind of shoddy. Link's pose is awful.

Really digging Pikachu though.

So what can I do with these exactly. Just play with them in Smash mode and that's it? How do they level up?

So essentially pick up the ones I really really want to avoid disappointment.

Also getting the vibe that going into a store and looking at them is far better than ordering online?

Yeah. Some of them the paint can be very inconsistent on the figures. And the characters with swords, some of them can be bent in varying forms from so/so to bad. Its best to look at different figures of the same character to see which you like the best.
