So many people believe Black people will just lose their fucking minds and raze the town to the ground

I'm imagining some people think it will be like that World War Zimmerman episode of South Park.

"Black people are going totally nanners. *dude crashes through windshield* Fuck you Brad Pitt."

I'm partly shocked, and partly not that there seems to be some reality in this thanks to the massive undertaking by authorities in the area. They are actually preparing for all out pandemonium.

Man I have incredible respect for the protesters if things shake out to the verdict coming down tonight.

You got police, outsiders, and bystanders all ready with their guns and guess who's getting the blame if any shots are fired.

I don't think that they will, but I understand the why if they do.

Honestly I believe it would be justified but I know how counterproductive it is. It's the catch 22 of being Black in America. When you're quiet you get no attention; when you're loud you're a nuisance and a problem

It would be real great if people worried as much about the right of people to live and not be shot by police as much as they are about completely replaceable property.

There are too many suspect people that have been showing up to the protests. Groups will be in ferguson that just want to simply start problems with the police. I can't remember the name of them, but they were some of the first agitators initially at the protests. Bald guy came out and started calling the cops pigs ( He was from some chicago group), and demanding to know how many bodies they had on them from Afghanistan.. He wasn't really on any message, and was there to just say angry things to get people on his side with.

Is anyone actually expecting Wilson to be charged with anything? Hell even the Justice Department says their separate investigation probably won't lead to any charges.

No, but we're hoping against hope, I guess.

I figure many are also basically in macabre-popcorn.gif mode right now as well.

I hope they do riot. I don't want this to be forgotten. I don't want people to think shit like this is okay. I'm tired of this happening.

Not at all. Nor do I expect we'll get an official release of the evidence. Not any time soon anyway.

My expectations are set to smug, bald-faced corruption, along with post-announcement digs from some official and unofficial parties just to rub it in.

I haven't felt this cynical in a good long time, but this whole incident, from the breaking news, to the cops behavior at the protests and so called investigations has been one farce peeled away to expose bottomless depths of farce. The message has been coming through loud and clear from day one: There is no accountability for some.

More people dying in the midst of a riot isn't the way to change things.

How do you expect things to change, then? A highly marginalized group of people being pissed on by a bunch of jack-booted thugs who can kick their asses (and worse) and get away with it doesn't seem to have very many options, especially in a part of the country where institutionalized racism is alive and well.

They shouldn't be rioting in their own neighborhoods, though. They need to go where the cops live, and put some legitimate fear into their hearts. Things won't change if the police think they can kill with impunity.

Some choice selections from the comment section.
I don't think he'll be indicted but if I was local I'd be loading magazines. #pantsupdontloot
black culture = perceived racism + mass reverse racism
Is it racist to point out that only blacks riot?

Racism is dead indeed...

That is insane, and make shit 1000x worse.

There will almost certainly be riots if he is cleared of all charges, and everyone knows it.

The extent to how violent they could get is open for debate... But don't pretend like there won't be a public outcry.

Fuck off with that man. Go ahead and riot if you want. Set your shit on fire right now. Put it on YouTube just make sure to turn your phone sideways.

I agree with your whole post, and it makes me very sad :( A part of me has hope, but...eh. :(

Nope, but that's not a prerequisite to want to be involved in one or to think one is necessary.

Agreed, I only asked out of curiosity.

You change things by getting everyone on your side. You can't out force the police. This isn't like the Revolutionary War days or the Civil War days. This isn't even like the 60's Civil Rights Movement. Modern police far outgun you. Rioting is only going to marginalize you more and get people killed.

I mean...at what point is violence an appropriate response to systemic violence? I'm not saying this is it, but is there ever such a point? How long is it going to be until "the system fixes itself"?

Tough question, but I'd have to lean towards 'probably never'.

It will only lead to more violence and racial divide. I don't really see what that would accomplish, especially in the short term.

What sense does that make? People act like we should just be submissive. We're a fucking minority that they don't pay attention to when we're being peaceful. You act like this is the first time this has happened or some shit. Nothing is going to change because they talk about it for a few and then stop. There's no accountability and no new regulations. Just more black people being murdered until one story hits the news and the process starts all over again.

We've had several non-violent protests. They don't give a fuck about us in our everyday life, why would they suddenly care when one of us gets murdered?

What's your suggestion then?
Keep bringing injuctices to light.

Do you know what would happen if the fire of black roving bandits became reality? It would not end well for black people.

You suggesting an incredible simple and myopic solution to a complex problem.
