Halo: MCC Multiplayer "1th" patch "fix" live!

Yep. I blame Microsoft for this more than 343.

I suppose so. Surely Microsoft had to be aware of the state the game was in...I don't really buy that they had no idea matchmaking was borked until launch. I get that you don't really know how an online game will truly end up working in the wild until it's out there, but this is so completely broken there's just no way they were taken completely by surprise that matchmaking was fucked.

This should have been delayed. Even just a month. They'd lose Black Friday but still be out in time for Christmas, and prople would still buy it because it's Halo.

Halo is Microsoft's Mario, man. Could you imagine Nintendo releasing Mario All-Stars with two-player mode completely broken in all the games and having to power off your SNES every couple of levels?

Sure, but MS doesn't develop Halo.

Anyone have any luck returning this to Amazon?

I was excited about the game, so I got it at launch, and I figured I'd wait it out a bit to see if things were fixed, but seeing as this continues to be an issue, I'd like to return it.

I'm thinking of asking for a refund today or tomorrow. Tried playing on Sunday and it took me 25 minutes to get a game.
I got into my first match in about 5 minutes. Gave up on the second after 20 minutes and went to sleep.
Yep. I blame Microsoft for this more than 343.
I don't know who to blame so I'll blame both equally.

Solely blaming Microsoft assumes that the developers stood up and said, "it's not ready yet; we can't hit the release window." After which MS demanded it released anyway.

I don't think we have any evidence of things going down like that. For all we know, 343 told MS all was well for the launch date set and MS acted accordingly. Who really knows? Nobody here.

I think everybody can agree that if MCC isn't fixed by Christmas (which is when they'll get their next biggest influx of new customers) then 343's reputation will be irreparably shot.

MCC is pretty much the ultimate testament to how rushing a game out the door can backfire.

For me it's already dirt low. Don't trust them at all. But this is probably isn't going to have a huge negative effect on Halo 5, most people will still buy it Day 1 anyways.

As much as I hate to say it, I'm probably gonna be there at launch. I just hope that they learned their lesson and now know how to prevent this from happening again.

I think it could legit impact Halo 5's sales. If MCC isn't fixed by Christmas or the start of the Halo 5 beta (which is pretty much the exact same time) anybody jumping in around then is going to view this and probably gauge it as an expectation of the quality of Halo 5.

No it's not.

It's not developed by MS. MS is just a bank.

What? MS OWNS 343.

Nintendo has a lot of games that are not developed by the company Nintendo themselves, but you would still probably say Nintendo developed them (by overseeing the team handling the development and paying for that development). It's the same thing.

"Now, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is heralded as probably the single biggest video game disaster of the year, with a launch that continues to be a never-ending nightmare in a way that makes even Ubisoft’s Assasin’s Creed Unity release look smooth."

DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNN

i really think thats an exaggeration.

So a multibillion dollar corporation that spends more money on cars in Canada to promote Forza, rather than investing in buying larger Blu Ray discs for the MCC really is so hands on with the studio, you're going to give the title to MS as ownership? Especially with their hands in so many pots, such as Windows etc etc. They are just a bank, they don't CARE about development of this game. That's where 343 comes in.

And it shows.

Idk if I can even blame them. Maybe they gave them plenty of time, gave them a deadline, and 343 just missed the hell out of it.

I really want a post mortem on this game from some actual good game journalist.

MS BUILT 343 just to make Halo games. 343 is MS.

I really don't know what you're talking about man, but I suspect you don't know either.

It'll definitely have some impact but I think they'll be able to reduce it by the time H5 comes out. All they need is for the beta to run smoothly. I can't imagine the hate they'll get if it turns out like this has.

The good thing for them is that they still have a year. They'll get asked about the MM and just say the typical PR. They'll go on and on about how they listen to the community, they're taking Halo back to it's roots, and so on to make people happy. Halo will sell well either way.

Halo 5 beta is still exclusive to MCC isn't it? I think a lot of people playing the H5 beta are eventually going to try MCC's multiplayer too.

Plus, if the Halo 5 beta has issues on top of the existing MCC issues then it's hitting "dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria" levels.

holy lord this wrecked me

At least now we know why MS didn't bundle this game like everyone thought was the logical thing to do. Returning that broken mess of a game then would have meant a ton of returned consoles.

It will be bundled, Black Friday at Walmart for $329.99 with a $30 gift card.

For people blaming MS with their supposed theory that they didn't give 343 enough time..wat?

Halo:CE: Anniversary came out in 2011. That was 3 years ago. THREE. You REALLY think they didn't start thinking about H2: Anniversary pretty immediately after?

I really just believe it was the outsourcing more so than it being a rushed job.

H2A was definitely in the works, including the other 3 could have possibly been a last minute decision. Adds to the value in what H:CEA lacked for me.

At least you've played. Id be happy to wait 25 minutes if I knew I could play at the end of it.

I now simply get failed to connect errors. 2 weeks still haven't played online.

Well, looking back at those leaks early this year, Halo 2 Anniversary was the main one rumored to come out in 2014, with the other ports coming out next year in the lead-up to Halo 5.

I wouldn't be entirely shocked if MS decided that they needed to make the Xbox One 'the place to play Halo' and make the MCC bundle a thing (plus, that's a huge system-seller to a bunch of people). So they had to push for 2014, thinking that they'd be able to put it together, and that inevitably probably left all the outsourced teams with not enough time in the end.

Actually just checked the leak and the exact wording was in the span of one year.

Damn, wish I could get a refund on both my XB1 that I just bought as well as MCC. Disappointment of the year, in a year filled with disappointments.

Anyone remembering ntkrnl leaks? IIRC he said that H2A will be released this year and H3+H4 will be released later in 2015. So maybe MS rushed H3 and H4 to make one big collection (4 Halo games) instead of just one game (H2A)?

343i is probably not in a rush to fix the game with Thanksgiving around the corner. Microsoft campuses are pretty empty during the holidays, even more so in December.

Would be an interesting discussion topic, well being/rights of the employees vs well being/rights of the consumer

I'd say they're in even more of a rush. With Black Friday sales, there's gonna be a lot of people picking up an Xbox 1 and MCC with no knowledge of what's going on with matchmaking. Come the weekend, they're going to get waaaay more dissatisfied people beyond just people on gaming forums.

It's so weird seeing people making up a story about MS rushing 343. Pretty sure it was 343's decision to make the MCC collection what it is. I think Bonnie or Kiki can be quoted on the H2A making-of vid doc that they came up with it.

There's no logic in thinking 343 or MS wanted MCC to turn out this way.

But there is logic in MS thinking "lets get a Halo title out before Black Friday"

I haven't got a single game since this disaster of a patch went live for this disaster of a game. Not one. Just spent more time searching tonight, still nothing.

I'm done. Time to go fight with Target to see if I can get a refund.

Thanks for killing my favorite franchise, 343i.

Are you planning on rebuying it assuming it gets fixed?

Sucks that some people can't get a match. Which playlists were you trying? Big Team Battle simple isn't working for me, but Team Deathmatch, Halo 2,3, and the Halo 2 anniversary playlists are working great. I'm on the west cost though, I wonder what the common threads are for those still having issues?

Not sure. If 343i decides to properly fix the game, issue a real apology instead the PR nonsense we've gotten so far, and show a real attempt to re-engage the community, then maybe. Otherwise I don't think I can bring myself to support this with a repurchase. Then again, this is all assuming I can get a refund on a used, opened game, which is an uphill battle.

Tried pretty much all the playlists. East Coast, open NAT, no issues with other games.
