Out of curiosity, do you have those experiences? Not being snarky, just actually genuinely curious if you've had negative experience with this.

I have never, but as someone that lives near LA, with a few Korean friends, I share your perspective. Because of the riots that occurred, the resentment is still there for some people. I think it really made the stereotypes and tension worse, and it carries down even now.

Nah, I've never personally been in a riot or have been directly harmed by one. I've encountered a lot of racism growing up in Alabama, living in Chicago and currently in Albuquerque, though. I completely reject the narrative that being a victim of injustice gives anyone the right to resort to violent protesting. And it further gets under my skin seeing all of this energy being wasted when only a fraction of that same fervor, directed at polls, would affect so much more.

It is funny you say this when he has not been charged with anything. That is what the grand jury is about decided whether to charge Officer Wilson with anything. Even if he were to be charged with a crime the likely him of him being convicted is low considering he is a police officer and the prosecutor is most likely on his side even though he will say he is unbiased.

Friend is a police officer down here in Miami area, when the Travon Martin decision coming, they had a ton of cops in different places gathered and all suited up for riots. Apparently this was all over the state, cops getting in their tactical gear and others prepping with riot gear. No riots broke out so they never had to leave, but yea it was like they were preparing for a war in secret.

I really, really, really, really, REALLY hope there are nothing but peaceful protests if there is no indictment. If there is any time to show solidarity by a peaceful means, it is now. Racism/excessive force against blacks won't end just because of an indictment tonight, just like how it won't end without indictment tonight.

The path to equality is going to be a long and hard and one obstacle shouldn't distract or deter us.

I served on a grand jury before, it's an extremely enclosed and private affair unlike a trial. Secrecy is of the most importance. Can info leak? Of course, but really the conspiracy notion. If they expect riots as possible, they are going to prepare either way, they aren't going to wait and see what happens.
