Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round for PC shown up on ESRB site.

I don't understand how or why this is a problem. How does any additional content/DLC work on PC?

The issue is that people could just pirate the DLC or mod in better looking stuff that the community makes unless there's a mechanism in place to deter them from doing so.

And they will try. DOA5 in none of it's incarnations has been a big seller. But the fans like the DLC, it's priced highly and there's a LOT of it. To the point that it wouldn't make financial sense to ever release the game with all of it included. Not at $60. Probably not even at twice as much.

It's all costumes; single costumes being $2, whole packs being $13 or more. And it's not even great stuff, typically. If you have an eye for asset reuse this stuff will set you off like an alarm. The community could very easily do better. They've already proven this through costume contests they've held themselves.

So yeah, the question here is how they do this and ensure it's profitable. It's not going to be a $60 release on Steam as it's $40 on every platform; we know that off the bat. They're also not going to get fans that have been having wet dreams about a PC port and nude mods for ten years to pay their ridiculous DLC prices.

Where's the money made?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh baby!

Most female fighters are dressed in revealing outfits (large amounts of cleavage); their breasts frequently jiggle while standing or fighting. Some bikini-style costumes (with narrow strips of cloth) barely cover fighters' bodies, exposing large amounts of breasts/buttocks; one hologram-like figure appears to be nude—though her reflective skin obscures any discernible details (i.e., nipples or genitalia). In some sequences, players have the ability to zoom in on female fighters' cleavage and/or posterior and take pictures.

Hahaha. I always love how detached and clinical the ESRB descriptions manage to be about titillation.

Hmmm that's really good if true.
Really Didn't believe the.lidting last time. Has there ever been a time the esrb was wrong?
It was "wrong" in case of Earthbound for Wii, if you are interested.

Anyway, PC DoA5 is at the very least being considered then. I like the sound of this.

The game and DLC. If you're asking what they could do instead, that's something else entirely.

I mean

there are plenty of modded costumes for street fighter 4, but Capcom still sells the DLC costumes

devs have never had problems selling costumes/skins for games on PC. Be that F2P games or traditional AAA stuff.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand thats the edition I'll get then :D

DLC will be a thing that flies by cheaply if it hits steam sales. Plus if the modders have anything to say with it I'll be able to make me some new threads for Brad Wong.

DOA5 is more comparable to Rock Band as opposed to every other fighter that releases a few costume packs. There's hundreds of dollar a of costumes they're selling. It's their whole profit model.

I hope the online is better. Will buy on PC if so. I would like to get on next gen console but I don't want to buy a new stick.

What point are you trying to make here? As multiple people have pointed out, there are plenty of examples of successful PC games that are either wholly or highly centred around a high number of smaller DLC packs, cosmetic or otherwise.

Pretty accurate.

I think their pricing is ridiculous (especially in comparison to their contemporaries) and the content isn't even that great.

People will either steal this stuff or just mod in their own, which would be a problem for Tecmo given, as stated, this is where they actually make their money.

I'm assuming they will try to curb these things; I'm curious as to how.

Proudly debt free. If you need a couple bucks, just ask.
I wonder if there will be a way to transfer bought DLC from the Console versions. Doubt it.

There will be:

X-box 360? Buy the X-box 720 version.
PS3? Buy the PS4 version.
PC? EL-OH-EL. No.

You can hack TF2 to have all the hats, but people still buy them because the whole point of having hats is showing them to others. If you mod it, no one but you will see your fancy hats. People will hack it anyway but this doesn't mean they can't sell DLCs. Besides, DLCs are not their whole business model, the game isn't F2P (though it has a F2P version).

Rocksmith uses a similar model, frequent releases of various DLC packs and it's on Steam, if it wasn't a success why would they support it to such an extent? Look at the Agarest games both have been touted as great successes. Look at Dynasty Warriors, there is a reason that Empires is coming to Steam. I am sure Dead or Alive will sell bucket loads on Steam based solely on being the first major 3D fighter on Steam. Why are you worrying your little head? It almost makes you sound salty.

I think if Koei-Tecmo was really forward thinking, they would enable Steam Workshop support in the game and let the modders add/sell their own outfits directly. Then everyone gets outfits for their exact fetish, Koei-Tecmo gets a cut of every transaction and they could take the most popular outfits and backport them to the console versions, making them even more money. Everyone's a winner.

I don't see why people don't think DLC outfits would work on PC though... that's what most F2P games use as one of their major monetization schemes.

Why is my head little and why would I be salty? It's already on like five platforms; I own for three of them and plan to buy it again so it's not like I have some sort of possessive steak in me.

I'm just raising a concern. There's no need to post like a jerk in response to it though. They haven't even acknowledged that this is something they're really doing.

It sure seems that way. The business model that you are describing is not exactly new on PC, plenty of posters have given you examples of games that use a similar model, but you seem to reject any notion of this business model actually working on PC.

A concern based on what exactly?

They haven't even acknowledged that this is something they're really doing.

What exactly are you trying to tell me?

I have yet to reject anything. I'm not going to continue talking to you though.

The first fighting game developer to figure out how to hook up the Steam Workshop and have costume pieces made and sold by the community a la CS:GO/Dota 2 is going to make so much money.

Rhaknar

The Steam equivalent of the drunk friend who keeps offering to pay your tab all night.
Expect DRM of some form.

I just can't imagine they'd do a PC port with no market for the DLC.

no market for DLC? what do you call Steam. unless thats the DRM you were talking about, and while you wouldnt be wrong...lol

If Tecmo Koei played their cards right, it could be DOA5. They had a costume contest (or three?) with fan submissions of outfits that fans voted on that they made real as DLC or something. Same thing with Steam Workshop. Make them make outfits, community votes and it's implemented via Workshop into the official.
