$28? That's...a lot.

Holy fuck that's expensive. I like the WSJ, but not that much. Still I'll give the trial a shot cause I dig their iPad app.

Well, it is a (I believe) 6 day a week paper.

Plus:

Well, you can try it out after three months and cancel your subscription at any time. I understand $28 is a lot. But, if you were ever interested in their service, it's a good chance to try it out.

The smart kids go with NYT Student for $7.50 month ;)
(They also have 1 month for $1 trial).
If you lean left, you'll find more to like in the times, imo.

The WSJ is a great paper. I remember when my wife lived in Cambridge I used to get a free paper in front of her apartment building because there were like 20 copies delivered and half of them were for people who no longer lived there.

I would like to subscribe but I just don't have the time to read it anymore. I mean, there's always lots of good articles in there. Same for the Sunday NYT. I fall behind quickly.

Is everything in the print version on the web if you get the digital subscription?

Yes. If you have a tablet, it really doesn't make fiscal sense to get the print version... unless you like the feel and smell of newspaper like I do.

The digital version, in my opinion, is better than the print because it also gives you WSJ video coverage; there are great interviews on "All Things Digital" if you're into technology and all that jazz.

Hard to take the WSJ seriously after they printed this graphic, but $1 for three months is a good deal and it wouldn't hurt if more people read newspapers.

To add to this thread of Newspaper sales:

NYT has a special as well for 26 weeks.

I know Phantom and I both recommend having both for getting a roundabout idea of both sides of any hot topic issues that comes up recently.

...

The heck's the difference between a "smartphone app" and a "tablet app" where the latter is worth $0.62/week more, and to get both of them is worth $2.50/week more?

*Shrugs*

I want to say that the iPhone and iPad apps are different, but the only difference I've noticed is how the content presents itself.

I don't subscribe though. I buy off the rack to support a magazine dude that operates near our office.

Get that liberal rag out of my thread!
No JK. Both are great papers.

Fun Fact: When the NYT launched in 1851, it was initially a Republican paper.

We shall be "Conservative", in all cases where we think Conservatism essential to the public good;—and we shall be Radical in everything which may seem to us to require radical treatment and radical reform. We do not believe that "everything" in Society is either exactly right or exactly wrong;—what is good we desire to preserve and improve;—what is evil, to exterminate, or reform.

I hate the New York Times pricing model. It sounds like it was whipped up by an old man that has no idea how digital content works.

The graphic is silly. But the article was informative for those earning higher incomes...

If you hate that graphic, you'll hate their Mansion section.

Oh, how the times have changed. :D

That sounds like the most likely explanation.

Since, it makes no sense at all to go from $1.88/week for "Web + Smartphone" to $4.38/week for "Web + Smartphone + Tablet"
Those must be some amazing "tablet" applications for an extra $2.50/week.

That is a fun fact! I'll hold on to that as a snarky comment for the next time a conservative friend/family member accuses the NYT of being a socialist rag.

Well, conservatism then and conservatism now mean wholly different things.

If they want to curse a socialist rag, critique the Village Voice I guess.

Just got my first issue delivered this morning!

Sitting here, drinking espresso, with the Wall Street Journal...
It's almost like I'm an adult or something.

It's fun to play pretend sometimes >.>

I anxiously await your first WSJ thread about the global markets and NASDAQ soon.

Hey, I have this super-cool "I beat the stars of "You've Got Mail" at the E*Trade Celebrity Challenge" t-shirt from having made a 50% gain over 1 month
using imaginary money
back in like 1999!
Surely the stock market can't be all that different than it was back in 1999... can it? >.>

Gas used to cost less than 2 dollars too.

When I was weighing my options between newspaper, my two options were between New York Times, and Wall Street Journal. In the end, I went with NYT due to only having to pay $10 a month, and it's being a top notch paper!

Plus Wall Street Journal being owned by Rubert Murdoch makes me uneasy about the future quality of the paper.

I'm also a hardcore liberal, so I may have a *slight* bias towards NYT. :-P

My friends made fun of me for choosing to read the New York Times yesterday, due to their views of thinking it's liberal 'rag'.

Man, I remember pouring all this
fake
money into YHOO, EBAY, LU, CSCO, and others, and for them to just overflow with gains.

I wonder how they're doing these days...
