CM Punk tells all about walking out of WWE (podcast)

If I had to guess (And from stories etc.) I would bet HHH is almost just as bad as Vince and the only thing holding him back is the fact Vince is still around and in charge. In comparison to Vince I am sure Paul is more in touch with the audience and what would work for business in this day and age (Hard not to be) but from listening to this, I don’t think it would mean much in the long run. I bet as soon as HHH is in charge (Once Vince pegs it of course) he will basically turn into Vince – doing everything he can for what is ‘good for business’ while still playing to his own ego and getting himself over like the examples given by Punk (HHH going over Punk and going back into retirement, stealing Punks idea about the boxing/MMA entrance).

I think the only thing that will happen to WWE is going bust at some point within the next decade. This might seem silly but WWE have never really been in the situation they are now, they might not have competition but:

Viewers are the lowest for years (Last I read) and look to be dropping
PPV buys are ruined because of the switch to the Network.
The Network isn’t doing great itself
‘Try’ as they might, they still rely on a few guys to carry the show instead of building (And sticking with) a wide range of people you can build on and rely on to carry any position. Once these big guys go, who is going to be the person/people drawing fans in?
After years of failed side businesses, failed Governor Attempts, dwindling fan base etc. their finances aren’t great (I think I read, don’t they only have something silly like $12m in cash reserves?) Not great for a company so big and in such troubled times

WWE might be huge but with all that going against them, all it would take is some bad luck (Meaning the culmination of years of bad decisions) and a few things to mess up at the same time for it to overwhelm them. If that day comes, is Vince going to swallow his pride and scale back the company to survive or is he going to go for broke and ruin his company? I know what I would more likely put my money on.

He's better for the product than Vince, that's for sure. But I don't see the internal culture changing one bit. He's already notoriously difficult to work with and pretty racist, according to some.

He has to be better than Vince.

Steph seems pretty awful though. She seems like she's probably behind some of the most eye rolling shit ("celebrity" guest hosts for RAW, the Susan G. Komen partnership, etc). She comes off as nothing but a corporate shill.

HHH is better than Vince. He is totally egotistical, self-serving, and only wants "his guys" to succeed. All negative things, that Vince has too. But in comparison to Vince, he is in fact, not insane.
And that can only be an improvement.

And HHH does have a better view of wrestling than Vince, just look at NXT. But he will most certainly still be the overbearing boss and all his NXT graduates will be his favourites (the difference between him and Vince is that his favourites are a lot more palatable, guys like Seth Rollins, Prince Devitt, Sami Zayn). Remember he learned from Vince.

Yeah I think that’s the point I was trying to make, he might have some better ideas for on screen stuff but he learned the business under Vince, worked his way into being his right hand man and married his daughter, he is going to want to keep the status quo backstage because it’s that which got him into power. Plus its clear he is just as willing as Vince to help out his friends first instead of what’s right or what’s best for business.

Every now and then I think about catching up with WWE when I hear about a cool angle etc. but then I remember all the reason I stopped watching in the first place and realise nothing has changed in all those years and quickly decide not to bother watching.

I used to hate the CM Punk chants, but after seeing this I hope they continue just to shit up their show and give support to Punk. Fuckers.

There was a wild rumour from an MMA journalist that the big announcement UFC was supposed to reveal last week was them signing Punk but it couldn't be completed in time.

I could see CM Punk in Bellator (and envision that with his build he would be a middleweight) but even the mid-tier of the UFC's MW division would tear him apart.

Also: I laughed at Front Row Brian being called a "journalist."

HHH is only better than Vince in that he wants to make money in wrestling.

Vince wants to use his wrestlers and make low budget movies. Vince and guys like Dunn don't really want to run a wrestling business. The want a sports entertainment business and they film and show their wrestling in a way that hides what it really is.

Wake up marks, this is a swerve under the guise of a worked shoot.

Phil was injured, burnt out and likely threatened to leave. His terms for staying? Full creative control. This is the beginning of a multi-stage angle leading to a surprise return.

Where are the court documents? Where is the MRSA on his back?

This is a slow burn and you've all been long-conned.

This is the next evolution of what kayfabe is. I bet if you dig deep at WWE HQ you'll find that Colt has quietly been signed a contract as well.

Smart business move. This podcast would NOT happen without WWE's express approval.

Just finished listening now.

The WWE operates pretty much how I think we all expected.

What a fucking mess.

Has SAG ever talked about letting these performers into the union?

22 Minutes in:

- The host is a clown. Shilling WWE 2K15, then having a "Fuck WWE, Team Punk" stance.
- I'm not feeling sympathy for CM Punk yet. Both his sponsor and UFC ringside ideas seem to go against what WWE usually does. The "B-b-but he got to do it after me" thing is a little ... whiny. I don't know if it's his place to be pushing for things that he thinks will benefit the company.

I will continue listening.

1) How does that make him a clown? Surely if anything it makes the sponsors (2K I assume) clowns for sponsoring a show that has such open debates.
2) It’s a near 2 hour podcast, surely only getting 1/6 into it wouldn’t give you enough back story to understand his position, don’t you think?
3) So he suggested an idea for the good of the company to do some cross promotion, was told it was a terrible idea, only to then 2 weeks later have the person you told son in law doing the exact same thing you suggested, And Punk is the whiny one? Im sorry but if someone comes up with a good idea for the company they work for they are entitled to share that with the boss if that’s what they want to do. You don’t have a “New ideas team” who are the only people allowed to propose marketing ideas and refuse to take them from other team members because you create a silo effect and end up having no counter arguments.

Finally finished listening to it this morning.

Hearing all this stuff just turns off what little interest I had left in the company. Yes Punk sounds bitter from all this, but after everything that happened I don't blame him one bit.

Guess its time to start getting into New Japan and ROH.

I don't mind CM Punk chants but I hate them when they're directed at AJ. It's like, let the woman do her work, she has nothing to do with Punk storyline wise and it's just smarks trying to show their smarkiness.

As for the interview, I believe probably most of what he said. I'm sure he put his own spin on things but it seems reasonable.

I'll buy a copy of Thor Annual in February.

Vince is extremely anti-union. That why the writing in most of his shows suck. They never use union guys.

I know he's anti union. It would take a mass movement of wrestlers and a group like SAG letting them in for things to change.

If everyone has an option and start using it there would be little Vince could do.

No doubt it would have a massive effect on the cost of doing business though.

I'm glad we're all CM Punk fans again.

I must say there's something especially sad about giving everything to your passion just to find out it makes you miserable.

The man who would need to lead that kind of move, John Cena, is way too absorbed into the political structure of the WWE.

It's crazy how many road blocks there are in the WWE that make it almost impossible to make any kind of real change.

Nothing terribly shocking here if you have been following things in WWE the last few years.

The stuff about the Doctors seems way more messed up then I can imagine though.

Makes you wonder how messed up John Cena's body is because reportedly he is meant to be a mess and has been for years. Once his body gives out WWE are fucked.

Seems like the lessons learned from the Beniot incident are finally being forgotten.

Nothing direct, but implied he hasn't talked to Jericho because he feels Jericho has an agenda and just wants to report on whatever Punk says on Jericho's podcast. He says he still talks to his friends in WWE.

Whats funny was one of my questions i was gonna send in for next week was to ask him about Jericho why he hasn't talked to him well got my answer lol

There have been so many times he's come back immediately after serious injury. Dude is going to be fucked in the not too distant future.

I'm glad we're all CM Punk fans again.

It's very depressing. Especially when you consider there was no one more passionate than him about wrestling. The business grinded him up into a fine mist.

LOL its true, he must just be held together by duct-tape or the ‘Doctors’ at WWE have been just telling him he’s fine and reminding him he needs to go do another make a wish event and send him on his way.

Elbow surgery 4-6 weeks to heal, CM has less than 3 weeks, holy shit Vince, no wonder wrestler gets hurt injury heal time is 6 months they back in 2 months..Vince ruin Edge..

CM Punk was a douche to Greg Miller so I will take Punk's comments with a pinch of salt. Need to listen to the other side before coming to conclusions.

That firing on the wedding day was so stupid. Seemed like something out of a WWE sketch.

Cabana has a fucking irritating radio voice.

True, but I rather liked him as an interviewer. He cut in at the right times to point towards what could be opposing views and also kept things on track.
