You guys are crazy.
If only Kojima could remake MGS4; throw everything in the bin and start again would be ideal.
Coming in late. Who said ff7?
Please understandYou guys are crazy.
You guys are crazy.
Don't reason with these people.I don't even know why people want a FF7 remake so bad. You think modern SE will do it justice?

I love Sony hype. It gains momentum like no other.

I'd rather he remade MGS2 first, and erased any shred of evidence that Raiden ever existed.

And so does it fall at the end. Keep your expectations in check guys.I love Sony hype. It gains momentum like no other.

so I know there will be keynotes but will there be a press conference?
if so will it be livestreamed?
I just don't see keynotes announcing new I.Ps/titles unless of course your SOE or Blizzard but to me it just seems like they're fan keynotes
I don't think Square Enix is doing it. I think CyberConnect2 is doing it.

1. They get the rights to make G Bike...

2. CyberConnect2 states they want to do a remake of VII themselves.

3. Well... their huge announcement. http://www.siliconera.com/2014/11/1...looking-forward-announcing-something-awesome/
Just my speculation but those are some major points there...
Balls and spine.![]()
get out
The mechanics would be dumped anyway. It's the tone they have no chance replicating. FF7 is a stupid game, it has insanely shifting moods, and absurd narrative elements that work because the art is all over the place and the graphics are shit. The idea of a game with FFXV spec including the protagonist dressing up as a girl for infiltration would be moronic. You just can't contain the absurdity of FFVII within the fidelity of XV.Exactly. And like I said. The gamemechanics did not age well at all.
Batman gameplay is going to be there that should be a sign that this will be structered out as an E3 conference.
I hope so
I hope they do announce some conference

I think they'd do a good job, if they like something they do it with passion. Jojos All Star Battle is perfect for me as a fan. New Stuff Remakes thoughCC2 is great, but they've never made anything even remotely close to the scale of FF7.
I bet Nomura is involved in this too. That's the reason why he gave up directing FFXV. Hype!!!I don't think Square Enix is doing it. I think CyberConnect2 is doing it.

If FF7 is real I will literally poop myself.
When you put it that way...I don't even know why people want a FF7 remake so bad. You think modern SE will do it justice?

It just needs better graphics. I can't imagine how Squenix could ruin that, when FF7 already looked dated at release.
Other than that, I don't really care what they do. I just don't want to look at super low poly characters and low res pre-rendered bitmaps.

Oot 3DS sold millions despite being the exact same game on the N64 with some re-touching.For the reasons outlined above, there's no way if they ever do it it'll be just better visuals, and at that point you have to question what level of tampering you're willing to allow the game to go through.
I think to call it stupid outright is a bit of an extreme, but it is absolutely a game of its time, and those weird tonal things sit right in with that. The same stuff is true of parts of FF6, FF8 and FF9 too, for certain. Some of it would just look stupid recreated in the sort of game and aesthetic a modern Final Fantasy is.
It doesn't just go for story beats with minor gameplay conceits like the cross dressing, but it drives right to the core of the game, to its style of battle system and character progression, a style that Square Enix has said flatly they don't really believe in for AAA any more. Even if, say FF16 is a command-based system instead of an action-based one, it'll play out more like FF13 - closer to real-time action, flashier, certainly not typical ATB, most likely.
That's the problem with a remake; they're damned either way if they do it, because if they don't change anything they'll be derided for releasing a game with mechanics out of the 90s, and if they do change things - like adjusting the battle system to something more like Crisis Core or FF15, or rewriting some of the more nonsensical/tonally flippant areas of the plot, people will lose their fucking minds.
There are routes out of that problem. The easy way out would be a simple HD Remaster, but due to code rot/poor storage/etc that just isn't possible for FF7. Most of the original code is lost, so a cheap Ocarina of Time 3D level remaster isn't possible. Remaking everything from scratch would be very expensive, and thus they'd want to have mass appeal, which'd mean changing the game. The argument then: why not cut the budget and make it more cheaply? Well, FF7 is an important cornerstone for Square Enix as a company, so they'd never short-change it for fear of what it'd do to its reputation, I think.
So... yeah. Rock, hard place. The other easy option is a handheld remake, because on handheld the company shrinks its expectations, its budget, and suddenly more traditional turn-based and the stuff becomes more viable. You could do a really competent FF7 on 3DS or Vita with a reasonable budget and worry a lot less about changing the core gameplay for mass appeal.
I do think eventually they'll return to the FF7 well. I really believe that. God only knows what the game that'll come out of it will look like, though. I think in that instance they would surely change the game significantly, as the purpose of remaking FF7 is to try to recapture the 3-4 million users who were more casual, bought that game with little RPG experience off the back of Sony's aggressive marketing, the game's impressive CG, and word of mouth... and to recapture that audience, you couldn't release that game and keep it the same. It'd have to change, even if that meant suffering the wrath of very angry hardcore fans.
I think they'll do it. Is now the time? Not sure... difficult to know.
For the reasons outlined above, there's no way if they ever do it it'll be just better visuals, and at that point you have to question what level of tampering you're willing to allow the game to go through.
Everything about FF VII looked pretty mindblowing to me at the time. Certainly not as bad as some make it seem.It just needs better graphics. I can't imagine how Squenix could ruin that, when FF7 already looked dated at release.

It's a remake, not a new game. I think the masses will know it's an old game.
Excellent post. This is exactly why I'm skeptical about a FFVII remake, I just can't see how it can be worth it for them sales wise.

The CG itself was passable (although not the best. Pixar released Geri's Game in the same year and it looked far better).Everything about FF VII looked pretty mindblowing to me at the time. Certainly not as bad as some make it seem.
I don't think Square Enix is doing it. I think CyberConnect2 is doing it.
