Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer

I'm judging the trailer. I'm judging the ideas that this piece of marketing material seems designed to convey. I was hoping to see character, and in those brief flashes nothing gripped me or stood out besides the visual effects and cinematography, and prioritizing visual effects without establishing character or space opera is exactly where my low expectations come from.

This really isn't phoning it in, especially considering the shots we see are merely dialog-less expressions for a second or two. The teaser also appeared to be aiming for something different, and to me didn't feel like it was intended to jam everything into it, unlike some past teasers.

CG looks great. The actual people look like they're phoning it in.

My expectations are somewhere far beneath rock bottom.

I just recently revisited Watchmen and boy oh boy, those "performances" do NOT hold up. Outside of Jackie Earl Haley, every performance in that film was the very definition of "phoned in". Complete garbage in the acting department. I'm assuming you're a fan, so if that's your gold standard for how actors "sell their personas"...I just...I can't.

Got goosebumps, I have to admit. This teaser definitely got me pretty excited about summerging myself into the Star Wars world once again.

I am just glad John Boyega shut down his twitter account a month or so ago. He would be flooded with comments like this directly sent to him probably.

I'm glad too. The guy has probably got his dream role and he has to deal with a load of fucking racists. I cant begin to imagine the shit he'd get if he still had a twitter. I just don't understand people some times.

Same here. Before Disney acquired the rights, I was sure that Star Wars wouldn't make an appearance until 2025. lol

I know. But you already understand them if you know they're idiots, which we both do.

Nah. Disney isn't that stupid. They want these movies out as soon as possible for all that money. I am shocked out how slow video games of Star Wars is coming out. Has any since Disney bought them?

I suppose you're right there. It just pisses me off that Boyega has probably worked his ass off on this film and as soon as the first trailer hits he gets people pissed off that he's black. Imagine how that must feel.

I won't be surprised if he quit twitter to avoid dealing with the racist idiots. Because he was very active on twitter all through out production sending out pictures and the like.

Last thing I remember he was tweeting before deleting it was buying some big old ugly Han Solo statue at a comic book store to pester Harrison Ford on set with.

Most people are ecstatic. I'm sure a couple of retarded tweets wouldn't phase him at all, as they are drowned out by the millions of supportive ones.

I don't know why there is dispute over the identity of the trailer voice. It sounds very clearly like Andy Serkis to me, especially if you compare to his Captain Haddock voice.

I'm hoping someone from Disney just said "You might want to step away" rather than dealt with it first and then quit. He surely has a huge, massive support system and enormous success without dealing with trolls, no need to even deal with it.

That's not to say he should or that those people saying shit aren't massive fuckups, just reality unfortunately.

The weird thing is the dispute continued despite Lucasfilm coming out and telling the media it was Andy Serkis lol

Now I want to see his character pester Han throughout the whole movie

Man. Very, very sensitive people in here.

But as a million voices are crying out at the idea of making snap judgments from quick flashes, I'll leave you to it.

okay

The guy is going to make a fortune from being in one of the biggest movie franchises in history. I doubt he cares what a few unknown idiots say about him on the internet.

Little reason to assume they'd be gone. Presumably only a small number of the Empire's forces died at Endor. They may have lost most of their senior leadership, but there's still a vast army out there, with plenty of new leaders ready to take their places.

I wonder if we'll see the Empire fragment into different factions of warlords much like the EU did.

What I would also like to see is deserters empire soldiers potentially joining into the New Republic, would be refreshing if they give stormtroopers a much more human approach, like real people fighting in a goddamn galactic war, not just cartoon characters that get themselves killed at every chance they have.

And for the love of god JJ make stormtrooper armors to be more than just a piece of crappy plastic which only purpose is to make the wearer be clumsy and unreliable in combat, I mean, the damn thing is worthless, they drop down with a single blow of wood made Ewok arrows.

I'm sure it's been said already, but the lightsaber's impracticality is probably intentional. It looks unstable to begin with, and the way the hilt lights up after the main blade makes it seem like it was shoddily put together. It would make sense, because nobody really knows how to make sabers anymore, and it was an intricate process to begin with - someone trying to replicate the old techniques would likely make mistakes.

Speaking of SW games. I was rearranging stuff in my storage room today and I noticed the StormTrooper on the N64 box:

It looks out of place among the Nintendo IPs. It's interesting to remember how prominent Star Wars was in many of Nintendo consoles' marketing strategy. SNES had a big SW game. It was on the box of the N64 (and was a launch title in Europe). And a Star Wars game was arguably the best launch game for Gamecube in the US.

Can we expect a full trailer soon?

Want to see more.the Boega scene looked forced, still to early to be certain, but I didn't really find his acting impressive in that opening scene..

If we didn't do that, there wouldn't be a purpose to having a thread on this, let alone a message board. It's an 88 second teaser. What do you want people to do? Pat each other on the back and congratulate each other? Of course people are going to analyze and comment on every little detail. Some of us are enjoying the conversation.

Complaining about things that are not actually bad (especially not knowing the context OR history) doesn't justify the thread. It has nothing to do with it.

I was just about to post this.

Thanks for this. People need to see this is nothing new. Super LTTP, really.

If you watch this part in a big 1080p res, you can see that he is looking/has his head down as he pulls out the saber. The way it is shot sort of seems to me that he doesn't see anything so much as he probably senses someone/something off screen and stops to defend himself/get ready for shit to go down.
