Was footage of the Agent ever shown? How can people be excited just by the title, alone? The Agent isn't based off of an established series, either, so it's not like we're getting excited just by the announcement of a FFVII remake or something we're familiar with. It was a Rockstar announcement for a new game that we had no information on. Yet some people are still excited for this shit? Excitement usually implies that a person has an expectation, but what expectation was ever set for Agent? It's like that guy in the Star Wars The Force Awakens thread who said that, based off of the teaser, he's determined the characters are empty and emotionless. People torched him for it, but at least that movie has FOOTAGE. The fuck does Agent have?
I don't understand the obsession with The Last Guardian, either. This is a step above Agent, but it's just as bad to me. We saw footage of it, but we had no idea how it was to control or play. If I remember correctly, we understood that it would be in the same vein as Shadow of Colossus and Ico, but that gameplay was neither shown nor confirmed. I'm not haranguing the individuals that can reasonably temper their expectations, but the individuals who are cocksure about their expectations. I hope The Last Guardian releases and turns out to be a piece of shit and fucking bombs. That will be glorious.

No, I'm pretty sure I knew what I was posting and stand by what I said. The last bit about The Last Guardian bombing was purposely hyperbolic, as I don't really wish for it to bomb, but I said it to illustrate that the excitement some people retain for these two titles, specifically the latter, is, I believe, a bit much. It's as if people haven't learned to temper their expectations so as to not be disappointed. And once again, we are talking about two titles that we know very little of.
This is all I need, doesn't even need to be any type of exclusive deal... I just want it announced (and hopefully without any silly micro-transaction or some such stuff attached to it).
People latch onto the developers that they love and heavily anticipate anything they release. Their excitement does nothing to you so why judge them for it?

On the other, the enjoyment I would get from a GAF meltdown about it bombing would be pretty popcorn worthy. I feel the same about HL3

HL3 at least has a basis for comparison with the previous installments, that's how I see it. But The Last Guardian certainly has to be the biggest disappointment people on this forum chase, much more than HL3.

Not taking away from Shadow of Colossus, as it may be a good game (haven't played it), but that was 9 years ago. Who knows if the developers even retain the same competency to make a good title anymore. Didn't we last hear that that studio was dispersed and working with other studios? Or am I wrong about that?

It's one thing to hope that games like AC:Unity fail based on anti-consumer bullshit and the incompetence of a specific company like Ubisoft but it's completely different to hope for failure just because you specifically are not interested in such a game.
I am not a fan of a lot of games but when and if they're announced I don't go all "Hah, lame. Hope it fails!" just because I'm not interested in said game, in fact I prefer that those games be made and that they find an audience.

Fumito Ueda has become independent, but he's still under contract to finish TLG.
Both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are masterpieces, imo. That's why so many people look forward to The Last Guardian.

Japan Studio, even back in the PS1/PS2 days, were always comprised of :
- multiple internal development teams
- external development teams ( who work with other studios)
Knack and Puppeteer, both games released last year, were internally developed Japan Studio games.

I get that those games are heralded by many (Ico was the only one I played and I didn't like it). But I was simply referring to the title of The Last Guardian, and not the developers more broadly, of which only some footage and nothing since has been shown.

My question of what the last title this studio released was a genuine one. I truly didn't know, but thank you. But that still doesn't change my view that the cg footage of TLG we got was not enough to set in such enormous expectations. But apologies if I offended anyone. How do you feel about HL3, then? B/c that has more or less the exact same variables riding on it now; been forever since the last game, no telling if Valve can make a new one to the same quality, Valve's been working w/ other studios and the Steambox, etc.

I feel slightly more optimistic about that one because at least there exists the foundation for that game, that which is its universe, gameplay, etc. But I still think the game could turn out poor. I lose a lot of optimism when development time becomes exceedingly long.
